Defining midfielder of his generation, leaving by the big door, probably on the back of a treble.

THis is how a legend if supposed to leave his club, not by asking his friends in the medias to do his propaganda and using his power at the club to keep his position, or to get his rivals sold.. while turning fans against him and getting profusely booed every weekend.

anyway, top player, he had no class whatsoever but damn he could play football.

Best CM I've seen in my life. During his peak he revolutionised football with his play for both club and country.

Wish he went to MLS instead of Qatar though.

Class act from Nick.
Farewell to one of my 3 favourite players ever.
At his best it was magical to see him manipulate the laws of football tactics in the field

Ironic, given Xavi's defence of Casillas, that a tribute thread to him is centred around taking a cheap shot at Iker.

An incredible player and rival, I am relieved that Milan need never worry about facing him again. Much has been made on GL of his statements in the press but time and again, his biggest statements were always delivered on the pitch. A legend, pure and simple.

He was class on and of the pitch. Best CM and one of the best persons in football. There isn't a single spot in his career.

I personally have no issues with his comments off the pitch, free, just to clarify. Gl being GL however, certain post match comments were blown out of proportion. Fortunately, what he will be remembered for are his truly incredible achievements.

Anyone who picks mushrooms can't be that bad of a person.

A random match back in the 90s, think it was a friendly between Barcelona and Brasil for their centenary celebrations, maybe. Anyway, Rivaldo and Anderson had issues with who they wanted to play for (I think it was Barcelona but it was quite a long time ago). Half time reaches and Anderson (?) is subbed off for young man named Xavi Hernandez. A short, not actually big "holding midfielder" with a name I had no idea how to pronounce at the time. Details of the match escapes me but all I remember is his name and he passed really well.

My first introduction to that wonderful footballer and a decade plus later, that man leaves Barcelona as a legend of the game and GL (the latter being way more important). I must admit, I do envy the fact Xavi got to be so awesome yet the equivalent to him at Madrid (Guti) really let his God given talent fade away to spend time looking like Redondo and chasing trannys.

Anyway, would genuinely suit him if he gets a send off with a treble to which I hope he does.

One of the best and enjoyable players I have ever seen. Class act all round!

I think Barca will miss him and sort of an of a era. We will never see the same control in a game that we would see with Xavi in the team. It just cant be replicated. I hope we dont miss him next season.... I thought this season he showed he still has so much to offer.

Gl in the USA for an absolute legend Sad

Perhaps the greatest CM ever. The best I've seen, at least. A man with a passion and commitment to Barca like no other, and a man who helped revolutionize the last decade of football. I don't know if I will ever respect a player more than Xavi Hernandez.

Say what you like about his off the pitch comments too, but he had a commitment to his philosophy, I don't believe he ever said it to be rude and classless--he simply has a belief in the way the game should be played.

Best of luck and I can't wait to see him as Barca manager. Simply a legend.

My favorite player, bar none.

It's been an absolute honor seeing this man play, and wish him all the best in his future, and patiently await his return to us one day as manager.
