Tomáš Rosický - Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow Empty Tomáš Rosický - Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow

Post by Sri Thu Jul 25, 2013 3:48 am

"I believe he is an exceptional player, a natural footballer who is technically top class. He plays the style of football we champion here and shares completely our philosophy. He is always ready to work for the sake of the club, always willing to put the team first. I have huge respect for him." - Arsene Wenger on Rosicky, 2012

Born on 4 October, 1980, Tomáš Rosický started his career with the youth set-up at ČKD Kompresory Prague in 1986. His father (Jiří Rosický) and brother (also Jiří Rosický) were both former football players at Sparta Prague, while his mother (Eva Rosická) was a former table tennis player. His reputation grew as he moved to Sparta Prague in 1988 and spent 10 years in their youth ranks.

In 1998, he was promoted to the first team of Sparta Prague, where he scored 8 goals in 41 appearances in 3 years. His first senior appearance was in a 2:0 win over Jablonec on 16 May, 1999. He earned his nickname, The Little Mozart, while helping Sparta Prague win 3 successive titles on the trot.

After featuring in the U15, U16, U17, U18 and U21 Czech national teams, he made his senior team debut in a 3:2 loss against Ireland on 23 February 2000. Since then, he has made 91 appearances for the team and scoring 20 goals, while staring in Euro 2004 and leading the team in WC 2006.

Borussia Dortmund picked him up for what was then, a Bundesliga record fee of 18 million Pounds in 2001. His Bundesliga debut was in a goalless draw against 1860 Munich on 2 February 2001. Dortmund went on to win the title and reached the UEFA Cup finals.

He enthralled the fans in Dortmund for 6 years with stunning performances and was a firm fan favourite, scoring 19 goals in 126 appearances over 5 years.

On 23 May 2006, shortly before the WC started, Arsenal - coming on the back of a disappointing loss to Barcelona in the Champions League final, announced the signing of Tomas Rosicky from BVB Dortmund. BVB were in the depths of a crippling financial crisis and forced to cash in on their star man. Arsenal beat the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid and Tottenham ( Laughing) to grab him for a reported fee of 7 million Pounds.

The first signing of that summer, Rosicky took over the #7 jersey from Robert Pires. He said, "I'm really happy to be here at Arsenal, it is a great day for me. This is the best club in Europe and I will give everything. The team showed their strength recently in the Champions League and have big potential with a lot of young players. I think we can be even better next season." An ecstatic Arsene Wenger said, "We are delighted to welcome Tomas to our squad. He has great technique, skill on the ball and sharp passing. Tomas has good experience at all levels for club and country."

His first game in an Arsenal shirt was a 3:0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League qualifier on 8 August, 2006. Shortly after, he scored his first goal for Arsenal on 13 September, 2006 in a 2:1 win over Hamburg in the first UCL game of the season. A few months later, he scored a brace against Liverpool on the 6 January, 2007 against Liverpool in the FA Cup before scoring his first premier league goal against Wigan Athletic on 11 February, 2007. He finished the season with 6 goals in all competitions from 37 appearances.

Injury struck him down in early 2008 in an FA Cup game against Newcastle. Repeated setbacks and recurring niggles kept him out for over 18 months, and the entire 2008-09 season. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally came back on the pitch on 12 September, 2009 in a 4:2 defeat away at Manchester City, where he set up the first and scored the second Arsenal goals.

Despite his injuries, Tomas contributed 14 goals in 76 games between 2006 and 2010. Arsenal stuck with him through the challenging phases of his career and signed him on a contract extension on the 4 January 2010.

Tomas said: “I am so pleased to have signed a new contract with Arsenal. The last two seasons haven’t been easy for me because of injuries but I feel it speaks volumes about the Club’s belief in me for this to be signed, and I truly believe I have a lot left to offer the Club, my team-mates and all the supporters. It’s felt like home since I arrived here four years ago and I believe we’re on the verge of achieving something special together. I’m looking forward to the coming months and hope that together, we are all celebrating at the end of the season.

Manager Arsène Wenger added: “I have spoken many times of Tomas’ class and contribution, not only on the pitch but off it as well, and I very much feel that this new contract reflects that. Tomas’ vision and touch is remarkable and I know that we will all benefit from his input in the coming seasons. Tomas is a special talent and we’re delighted that he has committed his future to Arsenal.

He penned another extension to his contract on 12 March 2012, after leading his country through Euro 2012 qualifying. His immense contributions in the latter halves of the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons were crucial in Arsenal sustaining their long presence among the elite in the Champions League. He currently has 22 goals in 182 appearances with Arsenal, and approaches the last year of his contract in the current season.

Talking to John Cross of the Mirror in Saitama, Rosicky reflected on his years in North London and reiterated his desire to stay with Arsenal:
"I’m trying to play every game like it’s going to be my last. Everyone can see that and I’ll continue to play like that. This is my last season. It’s not in the back of my mind that I’m playing for a new deal. I’m just trying to give my best for my team and my team-mates.
I’m enjoying playing football again and we will see how it goes. But I’m not in a rush. I’ve said many times already that I would love to finish my career at Arsenal. The big part is the experience I have. I’ve been through happy times, bad times and everything. I’m 32 years old so I have a lot of stuff behind me already. All these tough games are the most interesting ones. You want to play in them and I’m no different in that.
If you look at the last two seasons and what I was able to produce I think I played a big part in us coming back for a top four finish. Obviously for me the challenge is to make the pre-season which will help me for the whole season and contribute straight from the first game.
I don’t know what I’d look like if I wasn’t injured for 18 months on the trot. But obviously it’s an experience first of all you don’t want to be there, but you have to take the positives out of it, if there are any.
Last season I didn’t start because I had surgery on my Achilles but the season before I had quite an injury free season if you look at the records. As you can see when I started the games towards the end of the season, I think I started nine games and we won eight and drew the other one. Obviously it’s my goal to start the season fit and help the team. I feel I have a lot to give to this team.
So I know I’m capable of staying injury free for most part of the season. Obviously if you are going to need surgery, it’s tough after that. But I’m alright now and I will give my best to this club to fight for the title.
It’s vital to have a good mixture of youth and I don’t want to say the veterans but the experienced guys. I think they changed a lot since I came here. We have more experience than we used to and a big thing for me is that this is the first time since I’m here that almost no-one from the important guys has left. This is very important for the chemistry and the team state. Obviously if we can get one or two new players it would be great. It would be interesting for us to go into the new season.
This is a good group of boys. You could see at the end of last season we had the chemistry, which is very underrated in today’s football. We have it. We didn’t lose anyone so it’s very positive for us to go into the next season.

Yes, Tomas. We love you and would like nothing more than to see you retire with us, and be involved with the club for a long, long time to come as a mentor and coach for the scores of youngsters who grew up watching you and idolizing you. Not just the likes of Thomas Eisfeld and Serge Gnabry, but also for the sake of the millions you have won over - including me.

Keep rocking! Wink

my favourite player at Arsenal now.. Heart
i follow Arsenal from around 2009.. at that time, he was making his comeback from that long injury.. i have heard that he was a top class player before injury.. but i couldnt find anything special in him when he came back.. lacking the spark and spirit.. remember those days he was being played second fiddle to Arshavin and Nasri in the right and left wings.. all suddenly changed in the 2010 midseason when he started playing CAM after Ramsey failing in.. and that 5-2 North London Derby was the turning point.. since then he has looked top class and unrivalled first team player whenever fit.. he is very quick for his age, presses hard and gives his everything on the pitch..
sadly injuries at what should have been his peak has kept him down.. i am happy for him that he has won some trophies in the past with other clubs.. it would be so sad if such a great player ended out without some trophies..
i would love to see him retire with us, but not so fast when he is still playing well.. if he can continue playing at this level, a one year extension should be given.. or for his sake, i wont mind him leaving Arsenal and playing regular football at a smaller club for some more years...

What do you guys think his future with us would be?

Do you see him being moved deeper if we don't sign someone, a la Arteta?

Wishfull thinking would dictate Cesc taking over from him later. But who do you guys think will slot in there in the future? Ox? Jack?

Class player and person, I sincerely hope he retires with us - he has atleast 3 more good seasons in him and his excellent technical level won't allow a bad decline too soon. Rosicky deserves to be part of a trophy-winning team alongside Sagna and I hope it'll happen soon.

When it comes right down to it, I don't believe that a single player on our team brings more to us in the CAM position than Rosicky. Even if everyone is fit, I would start him as our playmaker all day every day.

Brilliant vision, direct and accurate passing, can change the tempo at will. Favourite player

Last season even though just 10 appearances he got 2 goals against west brom which on that week put arsenal 2 points behind spurs. Also he had 9 chances created and average pass accuracy was 87% with no defensive errors. So he's been a factor.

Can't believe he's 35. I hope he stays one more year. I really do.

Just hoping he stays fit and makes his usual second half of the season impact. Could really use it now more than ever.

Doubt he's staying but if he were to play a part in winning the league then what a send-off that would be along with a testimonial.
