Are we becoming a one man team? Empty Are we becoming a one man team?

Post by RealGunner Mon 28 Dec 2015, 21:41

Interesting debate on twitter tonight. We are relying on Ozil this season more than we have ever relied on Sanchez and the last time we relied on someone so much was RVP and before him, Henry. We are getting to the stage where Ozil has contributed 16 of the last 18 goals

We struggle? Look for Ozil. Ozil triple man marked like he was against southampton? we get destroyed.

I know we are missing sanchez who shoulders the burden but we really need to avoid overly relying on Ozil for everything. Obviously teams look towards their best players but no great team has ever relied on one person alone (apart from barca but then Messi is good enough to win it on his own).

So how bad is it atm?

For every game we win and Ozil is brilliant in, there's a defensive effort from the whole team and players who put the chances away. So no, I wouldn't call us a one man team. The win over City was a collective effort and decided more by Walcott/Giroud than Ozil, and the Olympiacos game was a collective effort too.

No doubt the attack is dependant upon Ozil to create the bulk of the chances, but that's what happens when you have the best no. 10 in the world right now. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Not yet at least. Ozil is providing the extra quality that's deciding games, but the team is also doing it's bit to allow him to flourish in that way.

Surely Cazorla being out is a bigger issue than Sanchez? Ball gets to Ozil faster and Ramsey is closer to goal.

NO he has always been great
genius of one kind
casual ppl just waking up and realizing how good he is

Mesut is hugely important to our game but
our best performances/wins have been all collective effort

Agree with what Jay and Sina said.

It's true Cazorla is more controlled and a better passer and links the defence to the attack quite better than Ramsey, but he is too inconsistent and most of all now we need impact players and game changers as the team is lacking depth atm Laughing and some are running on fumes, so because of that Sanchez is more important imo

My definition of 1 man team is how the whole team play like crap and just pass the ball to that one guy hoping for miracle. Henry was like that near the end of his career here, obviously RVP as well. With those guys, we won quite a number of smash and grab game.

Ozil not so much, he's great but at the same time, the team need to function well to get that end product. For once, the guys finished his assists need to get partial credits as well.

I agree. I don't think any team can ever rely solely on a team player like Ozil to get them out of trouble.

The genius of Özil needs at least one player ahead of him to make a difference.

He is not going to create and score individual goals - but he can create the chances for others to finish!
