Origi has improved, there's no question of that. But it's also quite clear that he's playing in a better attack than what United have at the moment.

But to Origi's credit it has to be said that he's clearly shown great attitude. He's been humble and worked hard and it's starting to show. I do rate Martial higher, but I have a feeling that Origi has the better work ethic to keep on developing.

Don't think there's anything wrong with Martial's work ethic, of all things. He's just playing a far too important role for a player of his age, in a far too dysfunctional team. It's not going to work, he's being worn out, and sadly Mourinho coming in won't be any better for him.
Then of course there's the matter of the 80m € which makes this comparison delicate.

But we shouldn't blame Martial for that.

That was a very nice non-goal.

Meanwhile Origi is busy scoring (scoring against Dortmund is definitely easier than scoring against Tottenham).

How so? You realize that Dortmund molested Tottenham to knock them out of Europa League less than a month ago I hope... Hummels alone is worth more than the entire Spurs defense, let alone Hummels/Subotic/Piszczek/Schmelzer.

Laughing

I'm curious about what an actual Tottenham-Dortmund tie would look like though. I think Dortmund would still win, but it would be close.

As for the thread, it's cute from Curtinho but Martial is on another level from Origi and that's really the long and short of it.

As much as I hate the prospect of Mourinho managing United and Martial under Mourinho, the man WILL bring in top players to play for him and wont rely on pussies like Mata and Lingard.
So first of all let us at least get some good players who can work in tandem with Anthony. Then we'll see.

Coming from a Liverpool fan here, Origi's ceiling and skillset does not compare to Martial as I surmise this board was made to force a counterpart comparison.

Cujo mate they obviously haven't seen as much of Origi as we have. As I said at the begging of the thread, there's more than enough to compare them and I don't even buy the fact that Martial is more talented potential wise.

This doesn't take away from Martial being a wonderful player who has world class potential, but it's naive to say he's done anything more than Origi and they are world apart to even compare.

It's not Divock's fault that idiot David Brent didn't give him any minutes for the first 3 months of the season. Since Klopp's coming he's been as impressive as Martial this season.

He doesn't compare at all...unless you're a Liverpool fan since i remember them telling us that Allen and Henderson were world class 2 years ago and Sterling was on par with Neymar in terms of talent.

I mean you guys don't quit. Doesn't make Origi a bad prospect. He's a decent one. But I actually watched him in Ligue 1. He can't finish. He has 2-3 dribbles and speed that took Ligue 1 exactly 1-2 months to figure out and then he was shut out. Now that the EPL are seeing him a bit, I expect the same adjustment. Will he add to his game? Looks the same to me. We'll see.

lmao you don't give up do you Sportz. I remember how much you hated on this 18 year old kid that we signed in 2014. You used to say he was absolutely abysmal and now he's absolutely proved you wrong but you don't stop.

Unless Martial is scoring 30 a season right now in some universe, they can totally be compared.

Origi vs. Martial - Page 2 Empty Re: Origi vs. Martial

Post by Curtinho on Fri Apr 15, 2016 7:23 pm

Origi does a lot of things better than Martial. He's much stronger, his hold up play is better, his movement is just as good and he makes great runs behind the back line. The other thing is, even though his finishing isn't clinical yet, he is always getting into scoring positions. His skillset and athleticism actually quite reminiscent of a young R7. A little less flashy and a little more team oriented though. He's not even 21 yet too, so to work on his finishing he has a lot of time ahead of him. How many of the great strikers of this generation have been scoring machines at the age of 20? Certainly not the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Lewandowski, etc. etc. composure is something that comes often with experience -- but you can see the talent and mind to be a prolific striker are there.

Not saying he'll become the next Ronaldo or anything like that. He has a lot of work ahead of him to even become a great player at all, but the tools are there. He needs to continue to believe in himself and put the work in off the field and I could see him scoring 30 and contributing quite a bit to the team. I think next year 20 goals in all comps should be the aim for him to see some good progress, and based on how he's played it's very attainable.

But yeah, Martial is certainly not any better right now, and is definitely not in a higher class in terms of his ceiling either. Though a flashy dribble here and there can certainly convince most fans.

Because I actually watched Lille when we loaned back Origi to them and goddam last season they were the worst offensive team I have ever seen in my lifetime. Completely denying any offensive player of any chance of doing well.

But that didn't stop 19 year old Origi from scoring nearly the same amount of goal as Martial in Ligue 1 last season.
