As i said before, this gets more interesting every time i read something about it.

Days Gone is an open world zombie apocalypse that gets everything right

There are several moments in Days Gone's post apocalypse where a flood of zombies poor through a doorway. It’s a like a liquid tumble of bodies that’s almost impossible to process. First time I saw it I knew I’d just be dead if it was real. No fight. Just frozen to the spot in a ‘well, shit’ moment of reflection before death by a thousand teeth.

Decon, the game’s biker hero, isn’t me though. He fights, spraying bullets into the crowd so that the bodies slow the horde, while leaving obstructions in his wake as he runs - collapsing piled up wood in the lumber yard location, dropping doors or throwing petrol bombs to create fire barriers. While the zombie apocalypse might feel like familiar idea, here it’s never been this fast or reactionary in a game before.

You’re not just blasting creatures and running. The gameplay is as much about reading the routes and spotting opportunities in a dynamic ongoing chase. In my demo developer Sony Bend took a different route to what was shown in the Sony demo, running though piles of lumber and ending up in a small building. Here the game showed off a different pace with one-on-one encounters with the few Freakers, to give them their proper name, that got inside.

These smaller clashes are brutal, with Decon using his knife to stab eyes, an axe to cleave heads off at the jaw, while using environmental kills like slamming a face into waiting circular saw. The visual gloss, post apocalyptic world and smoothly scripted animations that seamlessly blend the combat really made me think of The Last of Us, with things like crafting, and the survivalist atmosphere also contributing to that.

However, senior artist Brain Pape is quick to dispel that comparison. “I think this is on the opposite end of the spectrum. It’s more over the top, its more extreme,” he explains. “The sheer number [of enemies] we have shows that. In The Last of Us you’d come across one or two at a time and make your way between them. This is more of a run and gun style, over the top extreme action”.

Another differentiation is that this is a completely open world. While the mission Bend has revealed might look like a beautifully scripted action set piece, it’s actually just a mission in a world that you can approach however you want. Stealth is an option for example, using melee weapons or silencers to dispatch enemies without calling in the horde.

Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake. The grand daddy's are back with a vengeance.Since Wolfenstein and Doom did not disappoint it would be surprising if Quake did. It is PC only though and a shooter with this skill curve might limit its audience. Although everyone my age is just itching to play Quake again.

only catching up now; worked two 12 hours shifts and had League of Legends and Football to watch

EA - gorgeous snorefest

Look at how little gameplay we can show and get plebs to get hyped. Oh btw; when the show is done no one watching the stream will get to play the games we set up here.

currently at Bethesda.

You already know what I think of Quake

Skyrim Special Edition  enb on console  I might actually play the story Laughing

The Music as the guy calmly announces the features of a Snapmap that's useful Laughing

But seriously; this Snap map is going to unleash part of Dooms vision; the multiplayer needs to be next

EA's must have been the worst conference I have ever seen.

Mulled over it but I genuinely do believe that, there is no real justification for what they showed. Especially for Mass Effect which left a disgusting taste in my mouth.

Which is a shame because I thought the other conferences actually had at least a decent showing even if the pacing was a little off in some cases.

Ubisoft:

First thought Here's a set-up that 10,000 setup (4 VR capable gaming pc's + oculus rift setups) and celebrity actors can experience! and no one watching the stream!

"We have a real story and it has an arc that goes all the way to the end" rofl rofl rofl rofl

Watchdogs - uhh what's E3 worthy about this? Come one droneisoft? Where's our division tab edition?

Just in case anyone was wondering, it's been confirmed that all the games that were at Sony's press conference that actually showed gameplay ( i.e. Not Kojima's game obviously) were running on the PS4 not the upgraded version.

Sony's 1st party developers are technical wizards tbh.

Sounds like the Crash games are being completely remade and not just remaster with higher textures etc etc.

hype for a crash game in the year 2016 rofl

was already bored of it by the second time you play it in uncharted 4

more suited to mobile gaming nowadays, it's outdated and basic. nostalgia would wear off within an hr

Not if it's done properly hmm

I agree if it's a 1:1 remake of the original, but Ratchet and Clank was fun in 2016 imo.

This e3 has been dead compared to last year. Shenmue 3 and Final Fantasy VII remake really set the bar high for following events.

Was miles better imo.

I'm personally not interested in Shenmue and Final Fantasy anyway but for starters they showed pretty much no gameplay of either.

God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroit, Resident Evil 7, Days Gone and so on all showed significant gameplay to suggest they are not that far away.

I never did get the hype around last year really, all they really did is show two games which you won't see for like another 3-4 years anyway lol. Even Spiderman showed more than they did lol.

3 o 4 years is nothing when you've already been waiting for the better part of 2 decades for some(Shenmue Mad ) lol.

Not gonna lie From your list Detroit looks like it has potential to be very good. Hippie Laura Croft in the Horizon game looks interesting. The others aren't my type of games though.

Mafia going to new orleans also looks pretty good.
