Even in his mid-thirties,he would by far the biggest star in the league.
None right now in the pl come close to his superstar status so its a good marketing move in that respect with the money being proportionate to his marketability.
100% he is earning atleast 10-12M net salary. Its probably much higher close to the figure Nick mentioned.

Do you consider Ibrahimovic a champion of the highest order? If not then why?
My thought here is that while he is a supremely talented player with remarkable consistency he doesn't quite have the mentality of a champion of the highest order. He is reasonably serious about his career and certainly tries to do his bit for his teams but he seems to lack that super-human will to win the biggest trophies for his teams that some other players have.

He's a champion... the domestic king without a doubt. But having won nothing in international tournaments both with NT (understandable here) and with club (far less understandable)... you can't call him a champion of the HIGHEST order. There's a level above him.

Hope this thread doesn't indulge into that "gross" discussion about net salaries.

I agree with your comments. As you said it's about not winning the UCL but I also think he should have done better with his national team. Unexpected victories are not that uncommon in international football. While I am not saying he should have won a trophy with Sweden he could have taken the team further a few times. With him it's like in most international tournaments he will have that one great match or at least one great goal and be satisfied with it. You won't see in him a real hunger to produce top quality in all the games and take the team further. Somewhat similar are his numerous UCL exits. He often doesn't seem that hurt about poor team results. It's like if you ask him for an interview immediately after his team has exited the UCL in the quarter final, he will smile and oblige you. Some other players would be burning inside and wanting to punch something in disgust. In a nutshell he doesn't seem to be that determined to get a major team trophy and doesn't seem to feel that much pain when his team is thrown out. He is too much of an individual. As long as he gets to do all his star turns it's all fine for him.

"he should have done better with his national team"
How??
He is Sweden's top scorer ever. By a loooooong distance he is Sweden's best player. Its not his fault that his team is not up to him.

Yeah, to put it into perspective Sweden have 2nd tier of English football players in their starting line up.
He literally couldn't do no more.

Let us not talk about wages now Nick, much like transfer prices it doesn't concern us
No, the reason he never won with his national team is because it's Ibra + 10 pub team players wtf am I reading. He's the only reason they even qualified for tournaments. Messi can't win a god damn International tournament with Argentina these days wtf do you think Ibra can do with absolute scrubs behind him?

He scored 19 goals for euro qualifiers and 19 for world cup qualifiers. He is the main reason they get anywhere. That laziness...
He has 1 more goal than CR with Portugal and 7 more than Messi with Argentina.
He is older of course, but he plays for a much much weaker team.

I call bull tbh.. There's nothing stopping sweden from winning a title tbh. Put Neymar or Ronaldo in that swedish team and they'll at least get to the QF/SF in any major tournament tbh. If anybody expects portugal or this brazil to win a major tournament then ibra shouldn't be excused.
You don't think sweden could hold their own against this brazil? or portugal? Infact, brazil is barely batter than iceland these days tbh
All they need is good cohesion and a real star player with the mentality of a winner. Greece did it in 2004, scrubtugal did it in 2016, scrubzil won confederations cup in 2013, look at croatia in 98, wales in 2016, brazil in wc 2014, I could go on and on tbh.
Not even sure ibra has even gone past the group stages at any point lol.. or maybe once though

Re: Ibra could earn over £483,000 per week at united
Fair comments about his performance in qualifiers but I think in the tournament proper he at times should have done more. Say if I keep all qualities of Ibrahimovic but I give him the mental being of Pavel Nedved. Do you still think he would not have been able to do one bit more than he has done?
Re: Ibra could earn over £483,000 per week at united
Awful, awful post.
You're actually seriously comparing a Sweden team that makes use of championship players to a Brazil team with a player value somewhere in the Hundreds of Millions.
"Put Neymar or Ronaldo in that swedish team and they'll at least get to the QF/SF in any major tournament tbh"
I must have missed the announcement earlier today that getting to the QF = winning a title. Which is what you have literally just claimed.

What I'm saying is that ibra hasn't done anything of note for sweden to deserve exclusion or pity from everyone generally. Or are you saying getting to the QF should be so difficult for any team with the caliber of ibra? Hell, just take a look at iceland and wales or greece ffs.. And I repeate put Neymar, ronaldo, bale, or messi in that team and they'll get to the QF at the very least
If he gone far in any major tournament, I would have understood that sweden maybe just needed that extra bit of luck to pull through.
But this is sweden basically being eliminated from every group stage or not qualifying for some tournaments yet, you expect people to say he tried? oh I forgot, he helped sweden qualify for the euros.

What you're saying is that a man who is one of the most prolific National team goalscorers of his time, playing for a shit Sweden team is somehow getting slack and not receiving enough backlash for failing to win a NT trophy.
Well imo Messi is shit and overrated because he's playing for an infinitely superior National team and can't get the job done in the finals. Of which he's had 3 chances in as many years. If it's easy for Ibra to get to the latter stages of an International cup, then it's extremely easy for Messi to win a final for his team
ergo Messi < Robson Kanu

We'd have to time travel to the time of Henrik Larsson to mention a competent Sweden side.
I can only recall as far as Mellberg as being the last noteworthy player in Sweden aside from Ibra. Maybe Toivonen as well but that's all Ibra gets. Ibra should've chosen Bosnia or Croatia if he wanted to compete in WC or Euro Title.

How about we talk about the UCL now? A player of Zlatan's talent is going to end his career without a single one of these trophies. For that does all the blame lie with his team mates, his coaches and fate? Or some of the blame goes to the player as well? If the latter is true then what do you think Ibra can be blamed for and/or what do you think he lacks?
