You can't polish a turd. God knows what people see in these players. Conglomerate of Everton, Spurs, Liverpool, Roma scrubs with 2 completely overrated "star" players upfront. hmm

How is the pleb still their manager. He was one of the crappiest managers in the last WC. Didnt know he was still at their helm. Way too negative and inept. With the kind of players they have got, what he is doing is criminal.

And what about Italy then ? On paper its not even close the difference in class between them. I agree Belgian superstars are overrated. But still they are far better. Lol Italy's cf is Pelle ffs. Its entirely down to the 2 managers. Conte has been exceptional where as Wilmots dumb.

Maybe you can't polish it , but you can at least try and make it less stinky by removing Fellaini from it . hmm

Italy have a great, proven, elite defensive backbone for starters: Buffon, Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, De Rossi. All of these players have played WC, EC or CL finals. What do Belgium have? Fellaini, Witsel, Nainggolan, Vermaelen, Ciman? Wouldn't get into the Rayo Vallecano starting lineup IMO. They are completely overrated because of 2 or 3 names (Hazard, de Bruyne and Lukaku) who are all more hype than subtance.

Their best player is De Bruyne who isn't that great anyway.

No idea why people wank themselves silly over them every single tournament.

I think Rafael Honigstein said it best

A team without a coach was playing against a coach without a team

That's too simplified imo and is taking attention away from the fact they don't have that great of a team.

All their players are overrated as shit lol. They don't have a single good playmaking CM or decent DM, no good fullbacks, Lukaku has like a 1 in 5 record at international level and most of their CBs are poor defenders but get hyped because they can score.

There's just zero balance or changes of pace in this team and as alluded to they lack goal threat, yet somehow they are treated as some amazing team.

Belgium's defense barring Ciman is more than decent. In fact its quite good. Vertonghen, Alderweireld were 2 of the best defenders in the prem last season. And they have Cuortois again an excellent goalie.
Nainggolen is not bad either. And then the attacking third, its not even comparable. They have some real quality players like Yannick Carrasco on the bench who should be starting for them in addition.

Italy have a wealth of experience and their defense have  always been great. So they will look far better on the field than they show on paper anyway. Also the guys like Chiellini and Buffon. Sure they are top class players but all of them are at the wrong side of their ages as well.

I think its about leadership and manager which is helping Italy. Belgium doesnt have both. Laughing

Most of their hype comes from the fact that their players had like 90 potential on Fifa, 5 years ago. They should be in their primes by now, hence the overratedness.

A fair theory, no?

A trio of Batshuayi , Carrasco , and Hazard upfront with De Bruyne behind them and a pivot of Nainggolan and Dembele could work imo . hmm

Instead Wilmots is insisting with the static donkey Lukaku and the useless Fellaini running around doing nothing .

Have to blame Wilmots here as well. Lukaku isn't a star player but he scores with good service. Hazard is a superstar when he wants to be (tbf this one isn't on Wilmots, he's an overrated disappearing ghost pos for the most part). De Bruyne is quite a decent player, and he could be playing the likes of Mertens, Dembele, and Carrasco but instead persists with the likes of Witsel and Fellaini. Of course they lack creativity, they're set up to take advantage of long balls to fellaini and lukaku Laughing

If they set up with Lukaku up top, say, De Bruyne, Hazard and Carrasco underneath him, these are all three players who can interchange positions, two of them can beat their man, and provide decent service, and can link up well. Get Dembele in the center, he was one of the best CM's in the premier league last year, he's strong, can hold the ball and advance it. Witsel or 9golan can be next to him, depends on the opposition.

Surely they must have a LB of some sort? Even one who is not good? Alba plays for Spain, after all. Vertonghen-Alderweireld in the middle as CB's (why separate them ffs), Verm to the bench and Ciman on the right.

To be fair, they have no fullbacks and that's a problem, but otherwise the team set up like that can manage to be creative and incisive, much different from today's belgium.

Wilmots should be held responsible, playing like Moyes but with better players than Moyes had at United. It's a talented bunch, they aren't one of the better sides in Europe but they shouldn't be losing 2-0 to this Italy.

Either way, Belgium rofl

That's a good point CB . Laughing why break up one of the best CB pairings in the Premier Leagues just to fill the LB spot ? especially when vermaelen can play there too .

Verthonghen and Alderweireld are not good defenders, Spurs just do a fantastic job of covering their asses.

I mean Danny Rose and Walker are bad defenders too but they look all right for them.

No denying that the pressing system Spurs has in place helps out Vertonghen and Alderweireld, but to say that they aren't good defenders is just admitting that you watched little of Spurs last season. Alderweireld especially was terrific, and helped transform Tottenham's defense. Vertonghen looked more revived than Firenze's McCree after a solid Mercy rez

You just called the entirety of Tottenham's defense bad, but Tottenham had the best defensive record in the league last season, no? Being able to play as a team and unit does a lot, but it can't turn shite into the best backline in the league. Outta here with that

We smashed you twice, that's all i needed to see tbh.

I'm saying they are bad individuals lol, said many times that individuals mean *bleep* all when it comes to defending.

Except when it comes to your boy Piqué , that's when you'll take issue with the   " team  covering  an average individual " argument . Laughing

It's probably more true for Piqué than any other defender.

Bad individually...debatable but even if we run with it, what makes it so difficult to see that since individuals mean *bleep* all in defending, it might be a good idea to not split up the Spurs heart of defense? Are Verts/Alder not proven to be quite decent together as a paring? Only to put Verm in Laughing low key, can't Verm play LB? Even that would be better. Vertonghen hasn't played LB in years

Won't even respond to the first comment, I don't think even you take that one seriously tbh

And Pique a scrub rofl Mole you're turning into a shadow of your former self
