I read the review and i agree with a lot of what he said. ( although the score itself is maybe too low, but i have said many times how i hate scores in reviews)

Like i said i hope i eventually change my mind.

Weapons durability is horribly applied. Not only do weapons break very easily, there's no way to repair them. So you end up hoarding the good weapons and using the rubbish stuff in fights, or just not fighting at all to save them. Or spam bombs, I guess.

The stamina gauge isn't great, either. I don't even sprint anywhere because it runs out so quick.

The actual world is great, though. Haven't explored much of it but I love how it looks and, well, breathes.

Thats the thing Jay, you have to think which weapon you want to use for which fight, are you gonna use an insanely OP weapon on some moblins? Definitely not. The stamina thing i agree with you.

I don't see why I should have to, also you should be able to fix them if they are near broken through some means.

It's what every game ever with the same mechanic does, I don't see why I should have zero way of keeping a weapon after a certain amount of use.

That's moronic imo.

I'm all for rationing weapons and picking and choosing which one to use on which enemy. But it becomes a problem when you have to go through three or four weapons on a boss fight, and then go out and find new ones to replace them.

I don't think weapon durability is a bad thing, given the game is about surviving/savaging/exploring. It's just durability isn't high enough and there's no means to repair them, at least not in early game. Tweak those things a bit and I wouldn't have as many complaints.

FWIW, I hated weapon durability in the Witcher, too.

In Witcher they are a lot more durable and you can repair them lol.

Which is why I never had an issue there, it's not bad thing tbh but they are brittle as *bleep* here and there is zero way of repairing them.

If I could repair them then I'd have no issues.

I'm starting to feel like I should have chosen stamina instead of health lol.

Spoiler:
found this tower next to some electric dude in some jungle looking area but there's no way I'm climbing it.

Best session of the game I have had by far though, starting to legit enjoy it.

hmm

I'm starting to enjoy it more tbh, these horse like creatures with big *bleep* axes are *bleep* ridiculous though.

Made me run through all my weapons and Shields and he still had some health left rofl

Decided to reload the game and just run away from him.

elaborate in spoiler tags, even though I imagine you're joking

how long did it take you to finish? I know you can realistically beat it in a few hours due to the open nature of the game, but it would be more difficult, I actually think that's pretty cool

you dislike the story or something? it almost seemed like they were going for a Dark Souls type story telling from what I'd seen, but it didn't seem as epic as previous Zelda games, just fairly meh

Love the path to the Zora Kingdom and the overall art style of the domain itself.

Finally feels like I'm getting some where with this.

Yes i did lol.

I just faced the boss of said Divine Beast.

Basically, you have a mini boss fight to open the dungeon and then a boss fight at the end of said dungeon.

I ran out of arrows to kill it so i threw swords at him rofl Love that mechanic.

Wasted a few weapons sadly.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Fresh Air

Post by Lord Spencer on Fri Mar 17, 2017 9:05 am

I actually enjoy weapon durability systems if they commit to it. In the Witcher 3 or Dark Souls, weapon durability was never an issue, since it takes forever for the weapons to lose nay effectiveness, and then can be easily repaired in an instant with very cheap cost.

With actual weapon durability systems, it is simply another layer of "scarcity" to put in the game. It forces you to use what you have most efficiently, as well as vary your style and use whatever you can in the environment.

Hell, I wish Dark Souls have such a system. I hate getting one good weapon in the beginning of the game, and then NEVER having to change it during most of the game.

In Zelda, where you can use varying elements of the environment in your fight, and where there is always an ample supply of weapons, I don't understand the durability complaints.

One aspect of it that should have been used better is changing weapons, which should have had a quick select feature.

I'm understanding the weapon durability complaints. Needed at least 3 times longer durability for it to not be so overpowerering.

Game is great so far though. Does have some feeling from the original Zelda
