We need to stop blaming the media tbh.

It's part of the problem but not the only problem and far from the biggest issue.

EVERY SINGLE PLAYER were making dumb decisions and were thicker than the average job centre goer, that's not something which can be pinned on Roy Hodgson or the media.

How we develop players is all wrong and pretty much every single one seem to have the IQ of a rabbit, actually no that would be unfair to the rabbit.

Get Felix Magath as your next manager.

Won't win you anything, but at least you'll be assured the players will be miserable, which is the next best thing.

The national team has a mental block when it comes to tournament.

It's why they look good in qualifiers and friendlies but when the real thing starts, they flop. In form players during the season( like Kane, etc) look like scrubs during the tourno.

Maybe it's pressure from the media, pressure from their peers, or perhaps they're simply just shit and overrated. Whatever it is, it filters throughout the generation of English players and make them stutter during a major comp.

As for Hodgson, will surely go down as the worst England manager ever. Terrible manager.

tldr: England are a bunch of bottling so and so's.

The pressure to play Kane and Vardy upfront. It's almost like the media forced Roy to only play 2 formations. Roy is the manager. Not Rio Ferdinand or Jermaine Jenas.

Throughout our qualifying round we had Henderson and Wilshere as the two pivotal midfielders. I am not even the biggest Henderson fan but that guy has done far far more than the likes of Alli and Dier. And specially Rooney. Why did he get dropped all of a sudden lol? I can understand Wilshere didn't have match practise but it really is baffling how Roy picked the team based on PFA TOTY.

Absolutely baffling.

I agree with you but adding Dier was a plus for England. He's been brilliant since he's come in for England and has been England's best player since then. He was great against Russia, I didn't see the Wales game, and also fantastic vs Slovakia. He did nothing wrong this game, but was sacrificed because England needed a goal. Was great in the games running up to the tournament as well.

Has earned and cemented his spot in the squad. Can't say the same for Alli or Kane after this tournament. Rose and Walker are in there because Shaw hasn't played all season and everyone else is shite. Clyne is a sidestep with Walker, they both are bad.

I would agree that Henderson deserves to be there in place of the likes of Alli or Rooney, and Wilshere even more so.

Jay has got it spot on. Roy approached this tournament like a 12 year old with FIFA. No thought into how it would work tactically.

Ever since I can remember England has never had a team that plays football like a 'team'. It's just a bunch of mental midget individuals on the field trying outdo each other.

Look at a team like Chile. Every player is willing to die for each other. Half of their players are floppers at club level and yet when they come together for their NT, pride and patriotism and belief in each other and that never say die attitude, they form a devastating group to play against.

I swear watching these English player body language with each other does not resemble a team whatsoever. It's like they are *bleep* each others wives and girlfriends (which is true in some cases Laughing ).

When your NT lacks elite talent (which England does) then the next best thing is to have mental giants who don't crack under pressure and fight for each other.

said it early on Rashford needed to play, never mind his age he was the only player in the team capable of beating a man. The midfield isn't capable of passing it into the net like Roy wanted them too...need players to take guys on and make a chance.

Rooney was dogshit vs iceland...he's the current problem at United and the England national team, a big name that needs to be dropped because he is no longer serviceable to the squads just a hindrance.

I was a massive Rooney fan for years, but it's time to start winding him out of both squads sadly.

Hope the next England manager makes someone else captain, and has the balls to make him earn his spot with his play.

England should stop with them Usain Bolts and healdess running chickens.
English players tactical knowledge is really poor, they simply don't know what to do when they don't find any space.

Re: The HARRY KANE TEAM

I think you need to look at how your players perform in Europe during CL and Europa... the best players on the EPL teams that are in Europe are not from the UK.  So when the players on NT aren't used to performing well on the big European stages at club level, you can't expect them to do it on the NT level.  Sure, the manager isn't great.  But in the end, the players individually failed.

I listened to the iTV post game talk...  it was rubbish.  It's not about England having a set system.  It's about putting players in positions that they are used to.  I didn't see players being played out of position except a couple.

But when you look at it...  Sturridge and Sterling were poor at club this season.  Dier, Cahill and Rooney were also poor.  Hart, Walker, Rose and Smalling were ok.  The truly in-from players were Vardy, Kane and Ali.  But none of these guys showed it in European club competition.  So what level were they really?

Making general comments is lazy imo.  Need to look at the detail and then you see that this team was more about a hope and a prayer rather than any real quality that you can count on.

And yet you're saying Sturridge had a poor season. Laughing

He was injured nearly 70% of the season. Otherwise he was very good.

Sturridge is what he is....  he makes awful decisions and manages to score a screamer that makes you forget all the bad decisions he made the other 90% of the time.  I just don't rate the guy if you play him anywhere other than a CF.  And even as a CF, he's like Walcott with good finishing.

I don't blame him.  He is what he is.  But he's just not a NT level player, especially wide.

Sturridge is nothing like Walcott. Nevermind the vast difference in the quality of their finishing, Sturridge can hold onto the ball (albeit for too long), can dribble past people and even produce good through passes. Walcott can do none of those things.

And you talk about English players not performing in Europe but players like Henderson, Lallana and Sturridge actually did perform well in Liverpool's Europa League run.

Re: The HARRY KANE TEAM

Post by sportsczy on Tue Jun 28, 2016 11:31 am

Were they stars and standouts in the competition or were they performing well within Liverpool but nothing special in relation to the other players in the competition?  That's the key question.  Lallana is one I like however.  His final ball is still a big issue.  But he's getting better.

England has had no standout player in European competition since the peak periods of Rooney, Lampard and Gerard really.  It's been a long time.

Sturridge is like Walcott in that he isn't a complete CF by any stretch of the imagination.  He doesn't make the diagonal and over the shoulder runs that a CF needs to, he's doesn't offer a target, he's very one footed, he can't pass, he doesn't link up well...  but he's fast and he finishes really well unlike Walcott.  Probably a better dribbler too.  Walcott crosses better however.  Both are far far too incomplete.  Walcott should be a winger but he doesn't want to be as does Sturridge.  I understand the fascination with being a striker...  but being a winger that can score is great too.  But neither wants that job mainly because it requires a lot of work rate imo.

Why are you people bashing Sturridge, Everybody knows he can't do shit unless he's played central which is valid for 90% of the strikers in the game.

We are supposed to look at Hodgson here, He just didn't know how to utilize these players.

Sturridge shouldn't have started in the tournie until he proved he deserved it, Which he arguably did.

Walker on the other hand, Clyne is clearly the best English RB as of now and im not being biased here.

Come on England what the f...

We cant blame the talent and quality of the players when they lost the group to Wales and got eliminated by Iceland. These 2 teams combined dont have 4 players that would make it into the English team.

The coach, the attitude, etc was the problem. Some people need to go starting from the coach and Rooney.

Southgate not the right man - Redknapp

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp does not believe that Gareth Southgate should get the England job.

The England Under-21 boss is currently the favourite to succeed Roy Hodgson.

"Why should he get it in front of Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce, who are proven managers?"  Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 live.

The 69-year-old, who ruled out his own chances of getting the job, said that he would back Tim Sherwood for the position.

This is the real issue right here lol, majority of country will think like that too lol.

I'm sure a PFM is the right answer lol.

Allerdyce and Bruce are indeed proven managers... one is good at saving teams from relegation, the other is good at getting teams relegated. Just who we need for the national team. Laughing

Not even joking here but Southgate is the best candidate if we're going English and even his U21 teams have a habit of choking during a major tournament. If you want the team to have a set way of playing then he's the guy to go to, and he's worked with the majority of the young players in the squad (Stones, Rose, Dier, Alli, Henderson, Barkley and Kane off the top of my head). More importantly he's been working in international football for a good amount of time now.

Otherwise it has to be a foreign manager, surely.

I think its about time the idiots from the FA who appoint these rubbish managers in the first place need to start taking the blame. I mean how can anyone who has ever seen a game of football think he who I refuse to name is the best man for the job. time to start putting these old birds out their misery

The problem is that England are really a second tier national team but have supporters based in England and the U.S. that have unrealistic expectations. So it almost always ends in disappointment for their supporters. The Hungarians cheered their team upon its return to Hungary for winning the group.

Here's a stat for you...  England has won exactly two elimination round games in all the Euros since 1960.  A QF win in 1968 and another in 1996.  That's it.

I think reality is far far different than expectations for England NT.
