Re: The Three Lions
Sterling has to be one of the least threatening players around when he runs towards the box. Reminds me a lot of Gervinho.

France dominating since Kane's goal despite one or two good chances created on the counter, Dier really should have scored from there.

Excited to see how it fails.
The fans are right.
Turns out this team is better going forward when the likes of Matuidi and Sissoko aren't involved, who knew?

Re: The Three Lions
England more or less gave up after the 3rd goal. There is no passion in that team, I bet they were all thinking about their holidays towards the end of the game

What is the backstory of the Varane hate even? The overhype early on from someone?

Honestly I don't hate him lol, I just think he's massively overhyped based on him outpacing Messi early on.
Everytime in the first two years of career when it mattered he made errors leading to goals which was understandable considering his age, but what annoyed me is everytime it would be pointed out excuses would be made for him.
There was such a double standard surrounding him which quite frankly annoyed me, I will admit I haven't watched him much for Madrid over the last 2 + years but I have seen him for France on the odd occasion and not once has he performed to a level which make me change my mind.
Plus the fact he's mostly been 3rd choice in that time leads me to believe that also. Basically as usual with young players people are rating them based on ability level and what they may become rather than what they are.

Re: The Three Lions
I don't think he's that hyped anymore, his stock has fallen dramatically.
Most Madrid fans rate Pepe higher than him and French fans wouldn't mind seeing him benched in favor of Umtiti.

All I've ever seen on here, is people either hyping him up as the best defender in the world, or a total scrub that needs to be shipped out. I do like Varane a lot, but I don't think he's shown an awful lot of consistency during the 5-6 years he's been at this club. I also think it's a little bit worrying that he seems to have lost that exceptional composure he had as a teenager. I suppose that's a bi-product of playing next to Ramos and Pepe for so many years. Ironically, Pepe seems to have gotten more composed in recent years

Re: The Three Lions
It's injuries Thimmy... he hasn't been able to gain momentum for years. For example, he had hamstring SURGERY last summer. Before the CL Final, he had been off for another hamstring injury for a month and only just made it.
He relies so much on instinct and anticipation along with his speed that he doesn't know quite what to do when the game is going to fast for him due to rustiness.
I can't really make a read on Varane until he gets 6 months of injury free time on the pitch. He's still very good mostly... but you can tell that he's not sure anymore in terms of that extra gear that made him special.

If that's the case he'll never reach the level some had hoped for him even without injury.
No truly great defender relies so much on physical attributes, what seperates the great from everyone else is intelligence and mental attributes.
