Nothing of the sort lol... both with Carlo and Blanc in their first seasons, they sucked until December. New managers like to experiment with everything and it tends to be messy early on.

They look disorganized. I don't think the players know exactly what to do yet when facing different tactics. Monaco is a good team anyhow. It's not like they lost to Dijon or anything.

@sport, does emery not rate Veratti? I have noticed that he is either benched or is taken off early since Emery took over

Had hamstring surgery and didn't play at all in preseason. He's not fit. Bringing him on slowly. They don't want the hamstring to go down again...

No idea... Krychowiak hasn't played much due to the Euro. Verratti is just coming back. Motta has been named team captain lol. Matuidi may or may not stay. You also have Rabiot, who is the only who has played every game so far.

Won't know until 2 months from now.

Pastore has also played alot and been very effective and they are after another attacker. Going to be interesting how Emery lines them up after the window closes

Pastore is PSG's best midfielder when he is healthy, imo. He is the perfect #10, did strongly against OL and Metz. Last season he was excellent when healthy, the season before he was one of PSG's top three players. The ideal eleven for PSG (imo) is this:

Cavani
Di María - Pastore - Lucas
Krychowiak - Verratti
Kurzawa - Silva - Marquinhos - Aurier
Trapp

I am surprised that Emery respects the quality of Motta so much. I do not think he plays well in one match this season, he is older and less mobile. I think PSG have a strong team, but the main weakness is certainly Cavani. You look at his disaster against Metz, and then the big miss he had against Monaco. This was only a few minutes after Moutinho's goal. Cavani missed the entire net, 20 minutes later Monaco scores again.

Cavani cannot be trusted, especially in big matches when only one chance is possible. This is a player who does not offer any help in the passes or creation, but only to score. But if he is having diffucilties scoring...this is the problem

Also am very confused about the goalkeeper situation. I follow PSG closely, through the summer I read about Aréola being the preferred GK but now he is not the starter. Very confusing, but Trapp has played good matches hmm

Pastore is by no means.... PSG's best midfielder. Come on now. Motta, Krychoviak, Verratti, Matuidi and Rabiot are miles better.

Pastore is a fraud to me and he's showing it once again to start this season. He always has good preseasons.

Laughing He was excellent vs OL and played strong vs Metz. The entire team was poor vs Bastia in the first round, and PSG looked clueless offensively vs Monaco when he was not fit.

Last season Pastore was injured for most of the season but when he played, he was good. And then 2014-15 he was PSG's best midfielder. The only one who compares to him is Verratti.

Pastore got benched... just like every season he gets benched... just like he already is benched this season.

He's not regular material.  Only reason he's kept around is that his wage is reasonable (4.2 mil gross) and he's a good offensive bench option.  He's also too scared to leave PSG for whatever reason.

I was a big fan when he joined and I defended him for a couple of years.  But he is what he is. Nice to have a technical player in Ligue 1 though, who needs it. But every time a new manager comes in, they get all excited about him in preseason and then get a dose of reality as soon as the real games start.

...You're joking, right ? scratch

The only seasons when Pastore was benched was 12-13 and 13-14, when he was terrible. Pastore was definitely PSG's best midfielder in 14-15, he started among the most matches.

The 15-16 season he had injury after injury. This graphic also does not include the part of the season when Pastore had pink-eye, too.

And then this 16-17 season, Pastore starts the first three matches but misses the Monaco match. The reason: calf injury. Not because Emery decides to bench him.

I think your dislike of Pastore is clouding your memory, sports :coffee:

He's benched every season dude. What happens is that Verratti, Lavezzi and Lucas Moura usually get injured and he starts filling in all over the place when needed. When everyone is healthy, he's on the bench.

Been like this for 4 years. Incredibly frustrating player to watch.

The midfield 3 were Motta - Matuidi - Verratti

The attacking 3 were Cavani - Ibra - Di Maria/Lavezzi/Lucas Moura/Pastore

This comment makes sense for the 12/13 and 13/14 seasons. In the 14/15 season:

Cavani - 46 starts
Pastore - 44 starts
Verratti - 42 starts
Matuidi - 41 starts
Motta - 36 starts
Zlatan - 36 starts
Lucas - 32 starts
Lavezzi - 29 starts

With Emery he will have a bigger role, imo. I agree when you say Pastore never really fit, because he is a #10 and Blanc preferred 4-3-3.

Pastore will be the perfect #10 for Emery if he stays fit. Here we disagree because you do not like him, but I do. :coffee:

Also: at the time, PSG could not sign Bacca because of the non-EU player rule. Bacca wanted to sign for PSG, and Emery wanted to sign him, but PSG could not have him.

But now that Luiz is gone, the non-EU spot would have been open for Bacca. But that won't happen anymore.

The problem isn't Ibra... they looked actually far worse than this in Carlo's second full season.  They were in third place at the break, which is when Carlo got the late night phone and he later asked to leave for Madrid. Won the league because both Marseille and Lyon fell apart in the second half of the season (yes, Bielsa had OM in first place at the winter break in his first season).

That lasted for 3 months.  This is the 3rd game Laughing

The system isn't in place. The players are thinking about where they need to be instead of it being automatic. So it looks disjointed.

I think come November, it will hum. They need to not lose a ton of points by then though.

Once again, not sure what the hell PSG were thinking losing Zlatan and not getting another top striker to replace him.

50 goals. They think they can just do without 50 goals?

Letting Ibra go and getting a kid for him is never going to fly. Its all on Cavani now if he can manage to step up.

Hmmm... I remember Ibra being down the first 4 months of the season 2 years ago and PSG were fine.  Took Cavani a month to get going then he went on a roll.  Had 30+ goals that season as I recall.

The issue has nothing to do with the CF position.  It's a new manager with drastically new tactics and completely changing the starting 11.  A lot of guys are currently lost in the setup and there are very few chances created.  If there were a ton of chances created the last 2 games and they were missed, that's one thing.  But there weren't.

Emery at Sevilla started the same way btw... they were pathetic and everyone wanted Emery out.  But once the players got used to the very specific way Emery wants them to play, they rolled and the rest is history.

That's the thing with managers who have a very drastic and precise philosophy... it takes some time to implement it.

Keep in mind that Aurier and Silva were out due to injury and Di Maria/Cavani didn't start because they had just returned from half way around the world.  Kurzawa got hurt too in the first half.  So last night was a bit different.

Juve fans calling out a team with new players and players being absent leading to a slow start just need to remember the start of last season Laughing

We had the worst start last year, so? We had a terrible summer. The fact that we had a terrible summer doesn't mean that PSG's summer was good. Not that it matters though, is that what some here would call "strawman"? Laughing

The issue has a lot to do with the CF position. Its 50 goals to replace, it'll be extremely hard. PSG will probably win the league again cause the gap is still wide, but lets see how much less they score.
