Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Not that it matters if Wenger is still in charge but Mönchengladbach's Mahmoud Dahoud has a release clause in his contract that lets him leave for £12m this summer.
We better be on top of this but Dortmund are also heavily interested.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
So several papers going with the big PR spin "squad overhaul" stories. Here're some of the targets we apparently have:
Jack Butland, Kasper Schmeichel or Jordan Pickford for goalkeeper
Leon Goretzka for midfield
Ross Barkley
Alexandre Lacazette (who's actually joining Atleti now)

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The clearest sign of Wenger's decline is in his complete disconnection from the French talent market.
So many incredible prospects. So much true quality. It's like a tree full of fruit, everyone can get one if you just extend your arm.
You have your Comans, Dembélés, Mbappés, Hernandez, Rabiots, Lemar, Mendy, Martial, Bakayoko, Tolisso, Augustin, Harit.
Arsenal have Sanogo, Giroud, Obi Wan Iwobi, Welbeck, Perez scrubbing on the bench, with the OX playing central midfield.
It makes no sense.
It's like when the German market exploded with young talent and Wenger buys Podolski and Mertesacker.
It's baffling how much wenger lost touch with the French market in the last decade.
Think of guys like Griezmann.
He's exactly the kind of player that should be playing for Arsenal.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Yep, that's a good point.
We got Pogba and Coman for free, Wenger should have been all over that. It seems like we will get Tolisso as well. It's a good time to have a french connection (as we have always had), Wenger should be all over that market.

Wenger signed Yaya Sanogo for free instead. Unbelievable fail.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Arseblog made the good (if not new) point that the club can talk all it wants about a war chest, but if you consider that Xhaka, Mustafi, Lucas, and Holding all cost about £90 million ... saying Arsenal are ready to spend £100 million doesn't mean much.
I also don't think that last summer's signings were bad ones, necessarily. I think that they've been mismanaged, in terms of playing time and position and tactics, but honestly - unpopular as it may be - I haven't even given up yet on Mustafi being a potentially good buy in the long term. Obviously he's not having a good season. But that's the point - in this market you can spend somewhere close to £100 on three or four respectable players, and not have it improve your squad short-term. As Hans points out, Wenger's own magic touch in the European market has mostly abandoned him by now, too.
Plus we haven't sold our players for good prices, generally, either. Was £24 million for RvP the last good piece of outgoing business we did? Vermaelen to Barca? Otherwise player sales don't allow the club to reinvest at all. Chelsea could part with Oscar - a good player, but not a star - and get plenty of Chinese cash in return. Chinese clubs haven't come in with £20 million bids for Giroud or Coquelin. Barca haven't offered £30 million or more for Ramsey to sit on their bench. We haven't sold Joel Campbell while his value was highest, yet he also isn't contributing to the club. Gnabry went for peanuts. Mesut, Alexis, Wilshere, and Ox - whichever of them leave the club - will bring in much less than if they had just a single more year on their contracts and thus gave Arsenal more leverage in negotiations. It's depressing.

Another example of what Hans said: so apparently we want to go for Goretzka and Barkley when Dahoud is available for 12m in the summer.
Unbelievable.

Klopp won't get him, neither will we tbh. Dortmund are going to sign him and then we'll all end up wondering where he came from and why did no one else try to sign him for 12m when he's linked with Man Utd for a 40m transfer fee.

Tbf I think that both Goretzka and Barkley are fantastic young players. Dahoud might be better than them though, you're right.
I'm not too sure about the 12m release clause though. It's been denied by his agent last fall I think.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Djibril Sidibé set to quit AS Monaco; Benjamin Mendy to stay?
AS Monaco will allow French international right-back Djibril Sidibé to leave the club this summer, according to L’Équipe.
Sidibé recently indicated that he would only leave the Principality this summer for a club that guarantees playing time, but Monaco believe that his market value is advantageous and they already have a ready-made replacement for him in Almamy Touré.
Arsenal re-engaging the player having attempted to sign him last summer is mentioned in today’s French daily.
Benjamin Mendy is however set to stay, with Monaco unlikely to sell both full-backs in one window.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Chelsea have made Alexis their no. 1 transfer target, according to the Guardian.
2017 and we could be selling our best player to a rival again. And here I thought we had made progress since we flogged van Persie to United.

Arsenal will demand a fee close to £50m for Alexis Sanchez this summer if a contract agreement is not reached. [@JamesOlley] #afc https://t.co/F1PDTJ2e2B
lol I doubt it.
We'll sell at £30m.
