Must say as someone who hasn't read the comic books, Suicide Squad was a very average movie. Not a great plot, terrible villains. Loved Deadshot, El Diablo, Harley Quinn and the Batman/Flash cameos. Joker was so so, he was awesome in some scenes and cringeworthy in some others. I didn't hate him though, Leto did a fine job with what they gave him.

It was not up to my expectations from what I saw on the trailers. It's probably my least favourite movie of the extended DCU.

So, Mary Jane is black now. Bold choice considering what's happened with so many other race and gender swaps on characters on the Internet.

I am. I don't mind it at all tbh. But the racist fan boys will come running now. MCU were defended a lot with Dr. strange, but I can't see it happening here. Really wish social media wasn't a thing tbh.

Unreal how PC the movie industry is becoming, movies now need a checklist/quota for races/cultures

Or maybe, just maybe, she nailed her audition Shocked

There's nothing wrong with being pc, nothing at all. If it leads to more opportunities for talented people I'm all for it.

So tired of racist nerds being too caught up in their childhood fantasies to not go around harassing people online. It's getting ridiculous at this point.

Brb crying because my Mary Jane is biracial.

It also really tells you a lot about people when the creators of the characters don't mind change to their characters appearances. Most people acknowledge the characters were created in racist times and no longer reflect our reality.

I am not trying to sound racist, but most times it feels forced or shoehorned in, i don't have a white power supremacist fantasy or anything, i'm middle eastern myself lol

I know. I'm mostly ranting on the stuff I'm reading online about the casting. Some of this stuff really makes me depressed. I just wish people wouldn't be judging someone on their race without having watched anything.

Read from some journalists that has seen footage that she was great in it. Spider-Man is probably my favourite Marvel superhero and I love Mary Jane, but I don't see how a race defines her.

Sometimes I just wish a big budget superhero movie would go the Hamilton route and race swap almost every one. Because it doesn't actually doesn't matter in art.

I hated Kirsten dunst as Mary Jane because she was nothing like Mary Jane. I suppose Zendaya is at least young.

Also it makes so much sense for the story. Queens is one of the most diverse places in the world. Then look back at the old Spider-Man movies. I literally can't remember anyone who weren't white. That's institutional racism, this is how it can get better.

Are you kidding me?

Of course there is. Cultural Marxism is ONE of the worst things that's happened to this world. At its core it indirectly hinders free speech.

Depends on how you interpret it. Being socially aware and casting movies to represent reality regarding demographics isn't bad in any way.

If it's based on merit then I totally agree. But it definitely isn't because, like ES said, there's a certain unspoken quota that they try to adhere to in todays media/entertainment.

And there really should be. I really think there's a bad representation of the diversity in our society. Queens has all ethnicities, but if you look at the older SM movies, there isn't any prominent characters of colour.
The characters from the comics are all white and no longer represent the setting.

I think it should be based on merit, but there should also be an aspiration to reflect society in movies. Movies are a huge influence on kids of all ages and they need to see proper representation.

I just can't agree with that on principle. You shouldn't change a writer's character. The writer writes a specific character, let's say for a supporting role a 40 year old Italian American. Then you should cast the best auditioned Italian American close to that age range to do the writer's character justice. I don't believe that because of representation you say well *bleep* it we have enough Italian-Americans already cast, we need to shoe horn a minority of similar age for that role just to be PC. The writer didn't intend for the character to be a minority.

Pretty sure Stan Lee doesn't mind, neither does the writer of the movie. The best one probably got the role.

Also, society has changed since the 60s. It can change now. Pretty much only 'fans' who are enraged by this.

Also "change a writer's character" as if skin colour is the only that defines the character. My god.

If you can't agree with the fact that there needs to be social representation in fictional works then I really can't continue this conversation.

Guess this isn't the best time to say Flash is a latino either then.

I'd have to guess they cast this entire movie on merit alone. Which is how it should be ideally. And when you cast solely on merit it's probably gonna end up reflecting society.

I don't agree that anyone should be picked just because of their skin color to fulfill a quota.

If this girl was the best auditioned actor for the role and the race of the fictional character is ambiguously written or otherwise the writer is fine with it, then she absolutely deserves the role and good for her.

Well, I actually think we agree on most parts Laughing

I just think there needs to be some active search of more diversity in a Spider-Man movie at least. Considering the entire cast was white in the first one.

Staying on topic, isn't Green lAntern a core part of the JL? I'm surprised they decided to not include him, sure there's bad vibes with the 2011 movie but he shouldn't be disregarded

I had a HUUUUGE problem with that film because that's now how people look like there, pretty sure the Director apologized for the lack of diversity. As they should.

I wouldn't mind an all white movie, if it fits the environment. Would be weird to have africans running around in Denmark in year 1000.

It's coming out in 2019 or 20 I think, the movie. They'll probably introduce him in the end of Justice League or in the second one.

Nate Parker is out of the running though after that rape case came up again. No one is gonna touch him, especially after those phone transcripts came up.

Can't wait for John Stewart and Hal teamup. Who would you prefer on the team?
