It is if Poch insists in playing him as a 10 to fit Jansen in, but 4/5 next fixtures look very good for SpursCBarca wrote:Sri wrote:Time to reinvest in FPL then

Not the case though BC. Janssen played against CP because of an unfit Dele Alli and Janssen came on against Liverpool because Poch is a madman and didn't have Trippier on the bench, so he shifted Dier to RB, Dele Alli to the CM position and Kane back one spot, Janssen in Kane's old position.
I'm not sure he would have played but for Kyle Walker coming off.
I think we will be seeing Janssen playing and occasionally alongside Kane, but I'm not convinced that will be the norm (or as often as it has been recently).

Is this Janssen any good?
Come on Gil, Arsenal doesn't have any chance. This is United, City or Chelsea's all the way.
Klopp to flop again (not his fault, his team is rubbish, but he could have signed good players instead of more rubbish).

I dont think Klopp is getting rubbish players, at least better than Rodgers. I doubt any high profile player is willing to come to Liverpool. Our best bet is, getting emering talents like Mane, Firmino, Coutinho and that is what he is doing. But Mane is exactly the player we lacked in last season after Suarez left, who can drive at defenders and make the opposition unsettled creating space for other players.
Wijnaldum is the only signing which seems odd at this stage. But Klopp and his team is known to take such players and mould them to the needs of the team. So we will see how it turns out.
Apart from that, he is willing to let Sakho go and use Lucas and young Gomez as backup to Klavan, Lovren and Matip. And he is willing to use Milner and Moreno as LB for the whole season. His decisions about LB and CB positions are little baffling but we will see as the season goes.

Mane for 40 milion is almost as underwhelming as Gomes for 50, though.

Mane has been Liverpool's best player so far this season.

At Southampton his consistency was the issue; so if he can keep it up for the whole season, we will definitely finish top 4.

Only been a couple games where a lot of Spurs players have underperformed (Eriksen looks awful, Dele Alli and Kane are meh, Dier meh etc) so it's hard to tell how good he is. I would give him another 5-10 games before judging

Free Cat lol you don't even watch PL, you have no place to make judgement calls on players.
Mane has been our best player so far. Matip is an unbelievable signing who's been injured for most of the preseason and barely got back and had amazing first 2 games. Karius also injured but will be the starter and is better than Mignolet. Marko Grujic is 20 years for the future with bags of talent. Just go back and look at his goal against Barca. Klavan is a very cheap 4th choice CB and improvement on Skrtel (who was awful). Manninger is 3rd choice GK improvement on Bogdan (who was a joke of a professional footballer).
Only one signing that doesn't make much sense is Wijnaldum. But Klopp brought him to score goals from midfield, let's see if he does that. So far he looks nothing different than a runner in midfield with little else.

Re: English Premier League '16-'17 Discussion - Part 2
The issue isn't that the players he's signed have been bad persay. The issue is that he hasn't addressed needs for the team. LB and a holding midfielder that can actually shield the defence are things we've lacked for a long time now. It's not a new problem. It was a problem last season and the season before that, etc.
At least he addressed the keeper situation and has removed the deadwood. Still a long way to go though. My guess is we aren't really competitive with the top 4 until next season (and even then we still need some big buys).

Re: English Premier League '16-'17 Discussion - Part 2
That's not true Cujo.
We were in for a LB the whole summer. You can't say we weren't trying to address our weakness. Klopp will NOT sign players just for the sake of signing. He will only sign the players he feels will fit his style. If they are not available then we fix it in house (i.e. Milner at LB). He wanted Chillwell and Dahoud as his primary LB and CM signings. Neither player was available.
We don't need a DM. Klopp loves Emre Can. Can was amazing second half of last season at DM. He's been injured this season. His back up Lucas is also injured. So we've been playing Hendo because Stewart is not very good.

Re: English Premier League '16-'17 Discussion - Part 2
Can has never been "amazing" he's been inconsistent at best and isn't suited to the holding role.
I don't care how many teams you have to call -- when you have a hole like Moreno in your team you need to address it. There are plenty of leftbacks out there that would be an improvement and significantly help our team.
Also having only one player that can play a certain role, especially when that player is unproven, inconsistent and very young (Can) is not a great plan.
I'm glad we "tried" to address holes in our team but in the end didn't. There's always next season, right?

Obviously if Klopp really wanted a LB we would have brought one in. It's not like some No-premier-league-appearances Chilwell was the only option on the table for Liverpool FC if we wanted to sign a LB.
Our window was underwhelming. It's been mostly left to the pre-Klopp era players to lift their level than the Klopp signings to deliver us a top-4 finish.

smh Klopp would rather go into the season with Lucas and Milner as back up CB and LB.

Listen guys. If Arsenal can keep their main guys healthy (which is admittedly a big ask) only City can challenge them this season.
Perez/Giroud
Sanchez Ozil Walcott
Xhaka Ramsey/Santi
Monreal Koscielny Mustafi Bellerin
Cech
That is an incredibly strong team for crying out loud! How many Chelsea players would get into their first XI? How many United players?
Again, if they get lucky with the injury bug like Leicester did last season then they'll be hard to stop once they get going.
