@zizzle wrote:Do we have a Napoli fan around to rate their transfers? i think they had a really good summer even after losing Higuain

I'm not a fan but I watch a lot of their games and moves.

They had one the best transfers in Italy IMO.

Main departures
Higuain. This was out their control.
Valdifiori
David Lopez
Grassi
+scrubs

Main arrivals
Milik
Diawara
Zielinski
Tonelli
Maksimovic
Giaccherini
Rog
+scrubs

Napoli's main issue last season was depth in defense and midfield. Attack was well covered.

In midfield they sold Valdifiori who was exposed as not being good enough to cover Jorginho. Grassi who came into play one game before the end of the season. And David Lopez who was average, but was their main sub in the mid for Allan or Hamsik. To that they added Diawara (CM) who is an excellent prospect and everybody in Serie A wanted. Zielinski (CM) who also looked good at Empoli and really young. Rog (AM) who I've never seen play but apparently is a good talent. To these 3 youngsters they added Giaccherini for a known, reliable option, after a great season with Bologna.

The balance here is overwhelmingly positive. Diawara, Zielinski, Giaccheirni, Rog >>>>>>>> Valdifiori and David Lopez. 8/10 top talent and prospects, but it experience is needed IMO to cover for Jorginho. Thats a lot of responsibility on Diawara, too young.

In defense their go-to CB sub was Chiriches who was dire. The fullbacks are all good for the most part. To cover CB and start next to Koulibaly they got Tonelli and Maksimovic. Both starting quality (better than Albiol).

The defense should be fixed now unless Hysaj gets injured for too long since Maggio is finished. 9/10 for adressing their issues head on with starting quality, only a replacement for Maggio would have been a 10.

On attack Higuain is irreplaceable. They couldn't do aything to keep him, so can't fault them there but their team is undeniably hit. Milik looks promising but Higuain was something else. They also failed to get a RW (will they change the system?), Callejon was their weakest link and remains the only one without a sub.

Attack 5/10.

Overal 7~8/10 I'd say. Fixed everything that needed fixing. Lacked some touches (better depth for RW and RB). Had the impossible task to replace Higuain.

To me it's always about improving the starting XI. We very rarely actually get this accomplished in transfer windows. Laughing

Last season's main starting XI:
Mignolet
Clyne - Lovren - Sakho - Moreno
Can - Milner
Lallana - Firmino - Coutinho
Origi

New starting XI:
Karius
Clyne - Matip - Lovren - Milner
Can
Lallana - Wijnaldum
Mane - Origi/Firmino - Coutinho

Karius, Matip, an Mane are great signings and instantly improve us. The jury is out on Gini to see if he actually improves on Milner/Hendo last season. No LB means Milner is essentially our new starting LB. That's the only weakness in the team we did not address with a transfer, even though we tried. I have no problem with fixing it in house and letting Milner play there until we find the right player.

Grujic is a star in the making but certainly one for the future and is a great arrival. Klavan is an improvement on Skrtel, a solid CB off the bench. Experienced Manninger improvement on Bogdan 3rd choice GK who will never get game time so no reason to dwell.

And then we did a wonderful job getting rid of deadwood and got great fees for them.

So Gini is a questionable big money signing. LB was left unaddressed in the market. And we missed out on our biggest target midfield Mahmoud Dahoud. So certainly all of these take away some points from window.

Overall bringing 3 sure starting improvement and possibly a 4th, could be one of the best summers we've had. Name me the last time we brought in 4 starting improvements in the last decade?

I'd say 7.5/10. Could be 8 depending on Gini.

Arrivals
Nolito
Sane
Gundogan
Stones
Bravo
G. Jesus

Departures
Nasri
Hart
Mangala
Bony
Denayer
Yaya (To The Reserves)

9/10. -1 for most of the departures being Loans. Would have been 6/10 if all Pep did was to get rid of Yaya.

Nolito >> Navas
Stones > Mangala
Gundogan > Nasri
Bravo > Hart/Caballero

Sane and Gabriel Jesus are both promising additions. Injected youth into the team and while reshaping an aging squad.

Not sure what Arkaduisz Milik has done to be rated in such a way. Higuain gone, Milik as replacement? That's a sad joke.
Napoli fans should be looting and burning the city tbh.

IN
HUMMELS, CB, 35m €
RENATO SANCHES, midfield, 35m € + X

OUT
GOETZE, AM, 22m €
HOEJBJERG, midfield, 15m €
RODE, midfield, 12m €
BENATIA, CB,  3m loan fee + 17m transfer fee becoming obligatory after a few appearances
TASCI, CB, end of loan

Spent ~70m €
Received ~ 50m €, or 70m if we include the BENATIA fee.
Net spending 20m €, or zero " " " " ".

Good quality addition in central defense, uniting the German NT CB pairing and bringing back one of Bayern's most prominent youth products.
However, we replaced a good injury prone defender with a very good yet very injury prone defender, and remain thin at CB since BADSTUBER is even more injury prone.

Lost a good squad option with RODE, replaced him with a very promising youngster, who however is only 18 years old and was very expensive. Being 18 he can not be called a big reinforcement yet.

Lost another promising youngster for good with HOEJBJERG, which however was unavoidable given he hadn't shown performances worthy of making a spot for him with enough game time.

Sold GOETZE which was the right thing to do, however at a severe 40% loss. Lukewarm ending to a terrible story.

Got no replacement for GOETZE.

Got no backup CF, which is a glaring hole since PIZZA left and already before.
I do not know of a single club who has only one CF. It's a *bleep* joke tbh.

No proper investment in the squad. Playing it cheap since a few years. AFTER ALL WE WON THE TREBLE EH

Rating 5/10

This is transfer window has been very disappointing, where the club has failed to strengthen our major weaknesses from last season leaving the major task on Spalletti to try to correct everything with the same tools. In addition, the transfer market closes without compensating for the departure of Pjanic which is just mind boggling. With the way the team has been playing and the lack reinforcements it's going to be very difficult for the this squad to qualify to CL unless Spalletti works out a miracle.

It's been ok. Zyiech is an absolute dreamsigning. Cassierra and Sanchez seem very talented and while Traore is a waste of space as a striker he looked great on the wing.
Got a lot of money for what we sold and also got rid of some deadwood. Lost less first teamers than expected.

But still the same leftback problem and that's just criminal at this point.
Even with Traore as a winger I'd have liked another winger. Also not sure if nothing more than a few talents for the striker position is too smart but we'll see.

Oh and Westermann. I hope the trip was worth paying his bills for two years ffs.

probably 5/10 or so. Could be a 4 or 6 aswell. We have the money and the players were available which makes it all the more infuriating but I'm just so happy we bought Zyiech even though that was just Overmars panicking.

I am satisfied too. We signed the Chilean Maradona, Paraguayan soon to be Thiago Silva, the next Inzaghi and Argentinian Rui Costa.

So our first team we have,

Buffon's second coming in goal.

The fastest right back in the world, the new Nesta and a Paraguayan soon to be Thiago Silva at CB, our left back is the next Maldini and our regista is basically Pirlo without the beard.

We have the Slovakian Gattuso as a box to box, and the Chilean Maradona as a mezzala.

Our Right wing is the Spanish Robben with a better left foot, our striker is a faster, more clinical Inzaghi and our LW is the French Balotelli.

So as I said before, (: out of 10.

I seriously thought though that Milan would splash money this window courtesy Chinese owners, after all one would think that huge money from selling fake I phones and PS4s gotta make sound.

5/10.

Only player brought in that even remotely matters is Morata.

Only player that we sold that remotely matters is Jese.

Pretty much cancels out. Could have done a lot better to bring in some much needed depth, but at least didn't lose anyone too important.
