Didn't see anything in the La La Land trailer that seemed rom com or anything like that. Seemed like avery artsy musical.

Can't wait. Loved everything I've seen from Chazelle, both in directing and writing. Grand Piano, 10 Cloverfield and Whiplash. All great.

He wrote a draft. Don't know what exactly made it in though.

Fantastic Mr. Fox was such a geek out. Wes Anderson's best only after The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Really funny and I had a great time watching it. 8/10

I've been on something of a western binge over the last day or so. Tombstone, Open Range, The Proposition, 3:10 to Yuma (07 version) and Appaloosa all watched. All were fantastic and all of them I had already seen. I also watched The Quick and The Dead and can now fully understand how garbage that movie is compared to the others.

I did try a new one this morning called The Salvation, starring Mads Mikkelsen, Eva Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jonathan Pryce. Was super impressed with it, despite the simplicity of the plot. Beautifully shot and well-acted. Mads was basically One-Eye with dialogue and guns. There was unmistakable Negen-like menace to Morgan's villain and Green's character, although mute, just shows how much of a presence she has, even with no lines. I even liked the cameo from Michael Raymond-James. Danish pop singer Oh Land made a cameo as well. Never heard of her, but was compelled to look her up and hear some of her music. Not particularly my cup of tea, it turns out.

Always found it interesting when European directors take on American genres like Westerns. There's Leone of course, but more often than not, they've gotten it right pretty frequently. This one is right up that alley.

Love Eva Green. Would love to see her in more things. Been my choice for Catwoman for a long time (Her or Blunt). But I feel she also has more dramatic leads in her.

Speaking of westerns, can't wait for Magnificent Seven. It really seems like it has that Tombstone feel of westerns, which I personally prefer. I'm not a huge Western fan at all, but Tombstone and Django are prob my favs.

Inherited the interest in Westerns from my grandfather. A favorite pastime for us when I was younger. Watched a lot of the originals from the 50s and 60s. Plus I'm a history nut so it's a natural fit.

Never imagined Eva Green as Catwoman. She undoubtedly has the look and I'm sure she'd obviously flourish with the darker side of character. She's done so many super dark and serious roles that I just never thought about how she would approach the lighter side - the sensual, sardonic playfulness - that also embodies Catwoman. I think Green could easily pull that off. Just didn't jump immediately to mind.

Wouldn't that make him the highest paid actor ffs. £75m per film. Convert that to dollars, absolutely obliterates whatever RDJ would make for a single Iron Man appearance.

Doubt it. Just give Fassbender or Damien Lewis 10m$ and be on with a new and better Bond franchise.

Also just saw Love & Friendship rofl Hilarious comedy about the post British society of old and how f'ed up the classicism was. Tom Bennett made me cry from laughter. Scene stealer of the year so far.

With that being said the most recent horror I found to be intriguing and orinigal-ish as possible was Maniac starring Elijah Wood.

Also RG watch Bone Tomahawk, not necessarily a horror film, but has elements of the genre in it, also has a western quality to it. Just a mix of different feels. Most original and unique film I watched from last year

You mean psychological horrors, Maniac will still work, it's a character study on a psychologically challenged man.

I still recommend Bone Tomahawk to anyone.

Haven't seen it. Might check it out. Though I'm not really in a western mood atm. Western is a genre where you will properly enjoy the movies if you're going through the phase, otherwise it takes away from the film.

Seen all 3. All 3 fit perfectly the description RG is looking for.

I'd start with the The Gift or Green Room. Liked those two better than The Guest.

Btw RG, have you seen Shutter Island with Leo? another one that perfectly fits your criteria.

Also watched Blood Father yesterday. Mel Gibson is such an amazing actor. Would love for him to do more thriller roles as he's got the perfect look and talent for these kinds of roles. Rooting for that Gibson comeback.

Can you really classify The Guest as a horror tho? Seems like a blend of a lot of genres, its a weird one to even classify, felt more of a thriller with 80s vibe to it to me

Second half is 100% horror. And RG is really kind of looking for thrillers I'd assume. I felt The Guest was a thriller turned Slasher.
