It means that he controlled the ball, and they fouled him. It wasn't really because of his skill that the penalty was won. Even if we take into account the penalty, his game wasn't good.

Skill or not, the goal still is thanks to him -- he controlled the ball, protected it and got fouled. You are so ridiculous with twisting words in a way that they suit your agenda.

The game was collectively very poor. Tactical ineptness, lack of ideas and lack of usual bunch of additional options which Messi provides --- no need to single out individual players (apart from terStegen and Mathieu who clearly is a mess and nowhere near the level of Spanish champions).
