@Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Hyphen thing is weird though.

Even when people actually have middle names in the way Hans just described the hyphens don't actually exist.

So this is some other pompous nonsense Evil or Very Mad

But the hyphens signify the equal connection of family names (husband and wife) to one new family name, nothing to do with first or middle name? Or are the posh double surname formed in a different way?

No idea but I'm going to assume it's posh nonsense from a position of arrogance hmm

My parents gave us old middle names, my brother's is Robert, mine is Joseph rofl where i live it's just a tradition, it has no purpose. 100% sure it's my mother who insists and my father didn't give enough fucks to argue with her.

Can't think of one occasion where i've used it. On my main ID card (healthcare card) it doesn't even feature. Then as a teenager/young adult i had to subscribe to tons of shit that requires identity (social insurance number, driving license, bank account etc) and i used just First and Surname. So now it only exist on my birth certificate.

I have nor middle name neither double surname. Both things are very rare in Italy.

Correct, it's a complete choice thing.

For example i don't have one but my two brothers both do.

People here do it as well. Although I only have one first name and one last name.

In a lot of African families people have like 2,3 middle names.
