Great test, Probably our toughest game in a stretch.

Team news: Will be updated as players return from NT break

Would prefer:

Karius
Clyne Matip Lovren Milner
Henderson Can Lallana
Coutinho Firmino Mane

Wouldn't mind either Lucas or Wiji coming in.

Will be missing this game through travelling, Hence the early thread as well.

Hope we win and hope for good scouting session as well

All those will be on NT duties. The attacking trio would be travelling 20,000 km. Not to mention some of the key back-up Wijnaldum, Sturridge, Origi will also be on NT duties.

This is truly going to be test.

Firmino didn't play a single minute against Peru. And played like 10 minutes in the earlier match.

They've already landed back at Liverpool. So rest today. Light training Thursday. Intense training Friday, and ready for Saturday.

So he will most likely will be available to start against Soton.

Coutinho is likely as well. Depending how Klopp will feel about it.

And Lallana injury apparently wasn't a big deal at all. Just slightly bruise from shin contact.

So we might get our regular line up.

very important that we go full strength at Saints because they are not an easy team to beat. Although they are recently not in such a good form in the League. It will be massive to have 3 points, specially when Arsenal and ManUtd both are likely to drop points.

Southampton might be missing Dusan Tadic, imo their most creative attacking outlet.

Coutinho has to start in MF three and Sturridge or Origi up front. Lallanas absence is going to cost us if we dont fill it with someone else.

If both Cou and Lal miss the match it's going to be tough.

Lucas
Hendo - Can
Origi - Sturridge - Mané

I'd play that if those two aren't available.

Hendo will not be moved away from his position, and the only position Lucas will start is CB. Given that Matip and Lovren are fit, he won't start.

So if Lallana misses out from midfield then it's one of Gini, Grujic, and possibly Ejaria that will get the start (Gini most likely).

And why on earth would Firmino not start if Phil and Adam are missing?

Hendo
Gini - Can
Mane - Sturridge - Firmino

is the most likely starting XI.

oh lulz, I forgot about Firmino.

Anyway, Soton are a decent side and Lucas is our best DM, that's why I'd like to see him start. Maybe we'd get our 2nd clean sheet of the season... Rolling Eyes
I can see our midfield get dominated without the dribbling abilities of Lallana and Coutinho and having an actual DM could be useful in such a case.

With the injury trouble for Liverpool, no better time for the opposition to take advantage.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of a diamond like the last time that Sturridge played. He's more effective in a two striker set up. Maybe something like this:

Clyne - Matip - Lovren - Milner
Henderson
Can - Wijnaldum
Firmino
Mané - Sturridge

Either way let's get that W and keep on rolling.

Well, I feel the same but I don't think that is going to happen. Origi just has superior hold up play and I think would link up better with Firmino and Mané but Sturridge should still be given the chance and he's also more of a goal threat ATM.

Obviously I'm not going to be disappointed if Sturridge starts because he's also quality but I just feel bad for Origi not getting too much game time even though he's been great every minute he's played while Sturridge has had shitty games.
