I think nearly everyone here has a negative opinion of the board, I wouldn't get into a high horse because you denounced those idiots since that's what everyone else did too. It's only the past 2 transfer seasons that they did a semi competent job. They only have their job because Messi has been carrying them this entire time.

I do agree that our transfers on average for many years have been terrible. We have just signed anyone and everyone for exorbitant prices without considering whether that player is at all worthy of being a Barca player and given very little thought to the academy. Really this board should have never gotten to take control of our club. As the great Johan Cruyff kept repeating they do not understand the Barca ethos. Whats done is done though but the bigger problem is there does not seem to be immediate light after the tunnel.

And I dont buy the players argument. We have more than enough quality to not PTB against Roma. Just need a better manager.

And my stand throughout the years has once again been vindicated. We cant play Cruyffian football with Messi and he is a liability in big games. To an extent, I empathize with Valverde. He realizes the liability Messi is and has us play defensive football. But the problem is that we have players who are used to playing on the front foot at all times. You cant just ask them to play defensive all of a sudden.

We may not be able to press as well as Roma with Messi, but we can definitely press effectively. Not with a 442 though. God knows when Messi will be motivated again, his work rate was good in the 2014-15 season, especially in the second half, but since then he's been a shell of the player he once was, at least effort wise.

It's hard to seriously take anything out of this game because Villarreal was absolutely horrendous but I like our game better without Suarez, the ball seemed to be flowing around quicker which was pleasing to the eye
