Re: Wenger has lost his smile
It's not hating it's analysing performance and criticising where fit.
I'm not going to ignore it because he's a legend, that's just stupid.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
I also think some of the players will play much better with better coaching. Some will still have to be improved on asap.
You can't have a midfield of Xhaka-Coquelin flanked by Iwobi and Oxlade. Just no. This is one of the things that pisses me off most about Wenger. That he let his squad slide into that. Maximum 2 of these players should start at any one time.
When they go against Xabi-Vidal-Thiago flanked by Robben and Costa you just realize how terrible the situation really is.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
It's hating because he's not getting credit anymore for the success he still has. And it's undeniable he's still relatively successful.
But it's understandable because with his lack of intensity and ineptness to prepare the team for big games he effectively keeps banging the Arsenal fans' faces against the glass ceiling continuously. They are fed up with always just achieving what is about the average potential. They want highs, even if they come with lows.
I think neutral observers like yourself should have a more clear and balanced view though, and not regurgitate nonsense clishees and lies about Arsenal you keep getting told by Sky, Mourinho, and the English media.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
What relative success? losing the league to Leicester, getting blasted by Monaco, getting smashed by Bayern, being well out of the title race by February?
By that logic then pretty much no manager of a top club should ever be sacked because they always have relative success.
Enrique will finish in the top 3 and probably win the CDR. Van Gaal finished top 4. Tata finished 2nd, etc.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
Who gives a shit about past success lol.
Don't be so precious, also lies told by Mourinho, Sky and English media?
When have I ever gave a shit about other people's opinions? Besides I haven't followed English media or watched Sky in over two years and maybe longer so try harder.
I gave up on Wenger after years of incessantly defending him about 3 years ago when he gave up the title basically by spending half a year putting Ozil on the wing and trying to force Wilshere and Ramsay in midfield.
He's done nothing since to make me change my mind, sure he's a legend and will be rightly reverred when he retires but father time catches up to everyone and that happened about 3 years ago.

It's taken Wenger a while, but he's finally got his team playing like Barcelona in Europe. #BAYARS

Aka he's gone.
They probably won't announce it until they find a suitable replacement first.

He did this in 2014 and signed a new contract.
Also lol at the idea we have some kind of succession plan.
I really, really hope that Wenger has told the club he's not extending and that they're working on a plan but I can't see it with our board.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
He is facing unreal backlash from all corners. Probably first time as an Arsenal manager.
Fans, pundits, journos all believe he should go. Pressure is insane except from the board. Wenger is going to give in to the pressure imo. Last night was the final nail in the coffin I'm afraid and I reckon he himself knows now he has to leave.
Would be a big shock if Arsenal don't have a new manager starting from next season.

Yeah, during the numerous Arsenal lows in recent seasons, I don't recall this level of scrutiny crossed with, frankly, pity from so many corners - not just pundits and former rivals, but a lot of his own former players or staff, guys who would never be described as anti-Wenger. Intense.

At this point, rival fans are sticking for Arsene more than the Arsenal fans (genuinely sticking up)

I think every person even neutrals want to see a new Arsenal.
Major shakeup is needed at the club.
Bringing up the example of United's transition to defend Wenger is stupid imo.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
Wenger literally went through the same pressure in 2014:
Last year of his contract
Lost the league title by the time CL R16 happened
Humiliated by Bayern in the first fixture
Humiliated against league rivals, 6-3, 6-0, 5-1
Arsenal fans really thought it was his last year, but we ended up winning the FA Cup and so Wenger extended. As he will extend this time when things cool down a bit.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
Pressure is not bad as it is now.
Even the pro-Wenger loyalists are all on the Wenger out bandwagon now.
Several pundits are coming out, openly criticising him and they think his time is up except that patronising clown Neville.
Arsenal are getting worse each year despite spending more money. Even the money excuse can't save Wenger now like previous years. Don't think FA cup win is going to change anything imo. If anything , I think it's the best way to bow out for Wenger and he will.

Re: Wenger has lost his smile
Wenger has never cared about fans' opinions, or pundits for that matter. You don't seem to know him very well. He is on 8mil/year and was just offered another contract (probably a raise too). He will not give up until he physically can't anymore or wins the league/CL with Arsenal. His massive ego won't allow him to go out as a failure.

That's how I feel too. At least it will be exciting to see a new face leading Arsenal after like 20 years.

I like Wenger a lot and still think he still deserves defending from a good part of the criticism he gets, but he's been past it for a while at the highest standard and for some of the stuff Arsenal do under his responsibility there's just no excuses.
It's a high profile job and he's not really looking like he's up to all of the demands anymore.
He's still delivering consistent decent results, mind you. That's not to be sniffed at. But there's nothing else. No development, no visible system, not even good football anymore. In the end Arsenal fans know best that a fresh start is absolutely inevitable now.
