The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
Apparently the Referee Committee has decided to approve the use of VAR in La Liga for next season [COPE].
- Spoiler:
- May still need Perez for final approval

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
So Serie A and La Liga will have VAR next year. That should bring the other leagues around to it.

About damn time. Definitely a change for the better however there should be a limited amount of replays for each side.

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
They need a separate team of referees that makes simultaneous calls, The referee cannot be expected to walk off the field to look at the screen.
Im going to make a horrible suggestion now, Football should try something like the Third umpire in that satanic sport Cricket. There I said it, Yuck gotta take a bath now.

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
Applied already for this 1st matchday.
It gave the penalty to Cagliari against Juve ( not given from ref ) , confirmed some decisions on Inter and Milan matches for what I remember...
It has been interesting when the ref of Inter-Fiorentina hadn't given the penalty to Fiorentina. But then he has stopped to game , asking the VAR confirmation .. The games has been stopped for almost 2-3 minutes I think (but it looked liked an eternity for me , felt as got to oblivion because I didn't know if I had the penalty against me or not ) but then after the VAR consultation he decided to confirm what he had chosen , no penalty for Fiorentina.
So 3 minutes for nothing basically, because confirmed no penalty kick.
Anyway I am in favour of VAR, my first impression is that it's good addition

It was really needed for Athletic v Getafe. A legit goal was not allowed for Getafe as the ball did cross the line but the linesman nor the ref was in a place to see it. Mind you, everyone else did.

You don't even need VAR for that, La Liga doesn't have goal line tech?

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
I think it's high time every leading football association introduces it in their top leagues.
By now it is clear to see it is needed.

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
Why don't they just scrap linesmen and have them monitor the match through VAR instead? Surely, it must be easier to get the calls right when they can rewind the footage in real time? If they're trained to do this efficiently, then I can see this actually working without affecting the flow of the game too much. Also, donuts and coffee.

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
I simply cannot wait for VAR to make the PL and see the reaction. It was a shellshock in Serie A, almost everymatch day, something happened with VAR. Not that i hate it.
I imagine Xhaka's career would be over if that happened

Can't wait to see how pundits react to the inconsistent use of VAR.

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
Alternatively, how many managers are going to blame VAR? I can already see Mourinho say: ' penalty for them? VAR. Penalty for us? Play goes on. Im sorry but i have nothing to say'

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
Sadly i think Premier League will expose how much of a fraud VAR truly is.
OR
If England federation are intelligent enough they will improve it from incompetent FIGC. It's easy to recognize the obvious weakness of this system, which are:
- Wrong calls
- Referees decide when to use it
- Kills the tempo of a match

- Opinion, not fact:
- I also dislike to see the human side of football taken away (once more, and for good this time) to the benefit of technology. Now where is the limit to this i wonder

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
VAR is the best thing to happen in Serie A, only criminal club fans would say otherwise, the only issue, and this is nothing to do with VAR itself, is its implementation and utilization.
-The VAR referee needs to monitor the screen 24/7 and notify the main referee what the situation is instead of the main referee doing that retarded square hand gesture and blowing his whistle, walking (which takes like 2 mins) to the station.
-With the above implementation in mind, there should be no question the consistency of calls, instead of one team getting a VAR check and the other doesn't.

Re: The Official Video Assistant Referee Thread
This has nothing to do with criminals or whatever else bs of this spectrum, you even agree with me and Tom that VAR utilization is wrong
If anything what you propose is a credible solution to issues #2 and #3.
