Nouri, 20 one of the biggest Dutch talent in many years (possibly a decade) goes into a vegetative state for life
Ajax and Dutch football had been shaking as they awaited news on the health of Abdelhak Nouri in the days after his collapse on Saturday. But, when confirmed that the 20-year-old has suffered “serious and permanent brain damage” on Thursday, the football world trembled with them. To anyone familiar with the name, Nouri first conjures up images of a naturally gifted and dazzling player who amazes crowds and opponents with the ball. But what makes this tragedy even more difficult to accept is the cheeky smile 'Appie' always had, how sporting he always was towards fellow players and his reputation as a happy, delightful youngster.
“Everyone loves Appie,” coach Marcel Keizer said, adding that to him the midfielder represents Ajax.
His team-mates adore him too. Hakim Ziyech, technically a rival for his position, has become a close friend and room-mate within his first year at Ajax and was quickly calling him his “little brother”. The Morocco international hugged him tight when Nouri scored on his first-team debut – a free-kick against Willem II – before Andre Onana came over to lift him over his shoulder with a huge grin. It’s not just those who work with him who admire him. Ajax fans were already chanting that they wanted to see the gem of the youth system before he came off the bench. That night, he drove home and was greeted outside his home by friends and family chanting his name. “I didn’t know they would be there,” he said later. “They were really proud and happy for me, they even had tears in their eyes, it was a magical moment.”
"The doctors are quite confident that he will not recover," Abderrahim Nouri told AD. "If he were to wake up, he would not be able to think, eat, talk, walk or even recognise people. He would not be able to function normally. “Abdelhak is such a huge talent, but we will never know how bright his star would have shone had this not happened,” Van der Sar added in his statement. Naturally gifted, at the age of five he was already the best in his team and had to be moved into his brother’s side, even though they were all three years older. He joined Ajax aged seven and amazed fans on his journey through the youth system. Having shown a knack for set pieces, long-range shots and well-timed runs into the box, he managed 10 goals last season for Jong Ajax in the second tier of Dutch football, adding 11 assists, and was named the league’s best player.

This was supposed to be his break-out season. I can't remember a bigger Dutch talent & one who is very humble, grounded, hard-working, cheerful, without all the antics of the new diva type talents! Such a shame! He reminded many of a young Iniesta who could have developed into a potentially WC player!

That's really, really sad.
Now obviously I don't know the exact circumstances, I'm just going to say that in these cases, prognoses are usually made very tentatively by doctors.
One has to wait at least half a year, maybe a year before one can clearly say there's no chance he can get better.
It sounds like there's really next to no chance he will 'recover', to the point of playing sports or something, doesn't mean he'll 100% remain without signs of consciousness forever.

We'll see, but they're saying it's very bad.
I can't say I knew of him, but it's a huge loss anyway. So young, and I'm reading he was an incredibly positive influence and a real stand up kid.
He's younger than me ffs

Extremely sad news.
Sounds like a good kid, first and foremost, regardless his footballing talent.
Something medically has to be done and researched by doctors and scientists around the collapsing of sports players on the field, so that preventive measures can be taken.

Beyond sadness, not only for him but for his family & friends as well. Events like these always happen to people who deserve it the least
Makes you realize, once again, how precious & fragile life truly is.

On Tuesday, Ajax updated Nouri’s situation with “Appie” now out of intensive care and breathing unaided. However, they add that, despite being out of a coma, Nouri’s brain condition remains unchanged.

Well that's a bit better news. Would be wonderful if (I know miraculously) he at least regains consciousness

Unfortunately from what I have read and heard, he will not be getting better. When that amount of brain damage is sustained, there is a threshold you can't come back from. His brain was starved of oxygen for too long.
