What about it looks bad?

Personally I think it looks fine enough. Seems interesting. There's some really great images all around. The last 30 seconds look incredible.

I really like it. Going to read the book asap now. Started it recently but didnt get much time.

Is this film just the first book or all 3?

Looks like an utterly generic action film, the dialogue sounds bad too (he is worse than the devil), awkward and boring sounding exposition too.

I don't have high hopes for the film at all. Delayed multiple times, four screenwriters, looks tonally nothing like the series.

There's not four screenwriters despite what the credits might say. The two Danish writers often write together, so that's not a case of too many writers.

IMDb credits aren't final.

Read somewhere it's a mix between book 2 and a sequel or something.

I have said this a million times when it comes to trailers, but don't trust dialogue quality from trailers.

Generally don't trust anything from trailers Laughing

Rogue One and Suicide Squad prime examples.

Its hard to explain but it doesn't follow the books in the same narrative as you're reading, to make it simpler, think of it as an 'alternate timeline'. You'll know what i mean once you finish the books

Suicide Squad trailers did indeed deceive me. But I can't remember a bad trailer for a good film. This trailer reminded me of Assassins Creed trailer.

Edge of Tomorrow.

La La Land didn't grab me either.

Inside Llewyn Davis.

Bridge to Terebithia

Drive.

Star Trek Beyond had an abysmal trailer.

gonna agree with M99 about the trailer looking like a meh generic action flick, hoping it's just a studio trailer with the intent of interesting casual watchers, certainly didn't hype me

In fairness to Drive how would you truly market that film?

Winding Refn is my favourite director these days but he will always have trouble marketing his films given his distinct style.

Yeah, that isn't an easy sell. But it should at least be somewhat indicative of the film it's representing.

I'm very split on him as a director. Danish directors in general are very much hit and miss. Either really good or really bad. Winding Refn has a distinct style, actually multiple styles. He's constantly evolving, or devolving depending on who you ask. Went from a 100% realistic aesthetic to a very surrealist aesthetic.

You can't say he isn't interesting

As a huge fan of the Dark Tower books and fully knowing the vision that the director and King have for this movie, this trailer has me officially worried. That looks like a generic summer blockbuster instead of the nuanced story it truly is.

On the plus side: I learned there's like 499383 ways to reload a revolver.

Very well said, Freeza.

I agree on the marketing point as maybe one could say the best marketing is no marketing here or just go the minimalist route but his films barely make money and even if the cult status is achieved from all of them to which they usually do, producers won't go for that.

You may be split and its very understandable especially when it comes to polarised opinions in the form of Neon Demon and Only God Forgives, latter to which is underrated and the combo him and his frequent composer bring is brilliant. He may not be as evolved as Vinterberg or Brier atm but he is constantly evolving and thats a joy to see for me.
