Remember when people thought Rakitic was better than Modric?

After watching Modric lead Madrid to a third CL final in 4 years after yet another MOTM performance while Rakitic can't even start with regularity over Andre Gomes, I decided to revisit this silly " debate " that arose after Rakitic's good season playing as a CAM at Sevilla, leading many to believe that he was actually the superior midfielder of the two.

Not that I don't enjoy this thread, I was mentioning my fanboying of Modric earlier today actually. Saw him as a potential best CM before anyone else here did and I'll take that to my grave. I wanted Barca to sign him. One of my favorite player before he went to Madrid.

I'm not making Rakitic seem like a scrub. That'll be Lucho's doing, I am just stating what is happening. Also, we made Draxler look like prime Figo so we really shouldn't be an example of exemplary defending.

He is the one who does all the legwork in midfield lol. Covering up for Walkessi and providing stability in midfield. Modric play far more advanced role and has far less defensive duties.

Modric/Kroos are much closer to Xavi/Iniesta quality wise than someone like Rakitic.

Modric is a GOAT at this point and easily the best midfielder in the world for the last 3-4 years. Much better than Rakitic but the latter is still a good player. The guy shined for Sevilla playing AM/SS, came to Barca and became some kind of DM

Rakitic was a boss at Sevilla tbf. He was amazing at carrying the ball in transitions. He's best as a counterattacking CAM.

At Barca he's playing like a false RM who's sole job is to cover the flank that Messi abandons.

Modric is the better player don't get me wrong, but Rakitic is quite good himself as well. He just isn't playing in the best conditions to show his talents. His hype was justified back then IMO.

Farfarce , I appreciate these kind of threads as it's always good to call people out for their clown opinions but seriously you need to stop hiding behind that Lyon badge and just gleefully accept that you're a passionate Madrid supporter who loves to shit on other teams and their players while masquerading as some French team fan.

It annoys me when you do this because you very well know people aren't going to bash Lyon as frankly, it's not even worth it.
