i know it's sort of knee-jerk but he's never showed any propensity to defend in his 1st team chances

I think he played very well today.. dont know maybe iam wrong.

yes we need a left back..

We could always play Eboue as our starting LB. He played there a few times last season and seemed to enjoy himself. Plus, Eboue is awesome and I want to see him playing regularly

Unfortunately though, this is unlikely to happen.

traore needs to be given a full match against boca or nyrb

We need a LB!!! Simple as that...

It's not knee-jerk, man. It makes perfect sence. He's historically been a full offensive fullback, is a constant injury menace and is still too damn raw for that role. Arsenal's fullbacks have to be good defensively due to the attacking nature of our game.

If we don't buy a replacement for Clichy, we're not winning anything (again).

I think we should give him a chance. its only pre season. He has world class potential and you cant just pass up on that. he atacked brilliantly today from what i saw in the highlights. Give him some time, let him adapt more. We have seen this many times players not learning there positions as starters right away but eventually learning. Yes i agree he has been at arsenal for a while but he just came off of a tough year of injuries and frustratingly sitting behind clichy on the bench. Give him the first half of the season, if its a real problem play vermaelan there. but lets just allow the guy to get back into a bit of a grove.

He has potential definitely no one is questioning that but at the moment he seems like Traore v2. Saying it's only pre season is not how the players should be thinking Pre season is how Wenger is judging their weaknesses.
Anyway I think we will see a LB come in less than 2 weeks.

Nah actually Arshavin was very impressive defensivley in his last games , we might even see him defending more than Gibbs

Arshavin doesn't have the stamina to constantly work down his flank for 90 mins, though. Especially not with an attack minded LB not helping in defensive duties. We would get slaughtered.

to Boss: No senior player will call out youngsters ....esp while being interviewed. Gibbs Does not even offer anything different than Gael Clichy... If anything, he offers less (he isnt even a natural defender) . Gibbs is to Gael Clichy, what Gael Clichy was to Ashley Cole.
If Ashley Cole was Coca Cola, then Gibbs would be like those diet Coke with out the caffeine.

Gibbs offers more than Clichy going forward, but the difference between the two, defensively, is staggering.

but we dont need any help going forward, and to be lacking defensively cripples us even more in our weakest area. just doesnt really make sense to start him. especially during such a crucial year. if gibbs starts i can promise that we will leak so many attacks and eventually goals down his flank it will be embarrassing
