I really don't know what to expect in this match. If the team plays focused all the way we should win but if the performance is like most this season, then Barca should take it. They are in a much better streak.

Having lost Chiellini, Allegri now says *bleep* it and switches to a 3-4-3 (tuttojuve, the technical meeting of team just finished). Fantastic choice imo when compared to a regular backline with Benatia and no Chiellini.
Higuain
Costa - Dybala
Sandro - Khedira - Pjanic - Cuadrado
Rugani - Benatia - Barzagli

Re: Juventus 2017/2018 Champions League Winners Thread
Allegri looked happier than ever in the postmatch, had that creep smile of his the whole time. It seems he really was getting desperate at our lack of clean sheets.
“It was a wonderful game on a tactical level, our first 0-0 of the season and we did it against a Barcelona side that defends very well this season,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.
“If we had been a bit quicker in the transitions, we would’ve had more favourable opportunities, but in the second half they stopped us doing that. We had the Douglas Costa shot and the final save on Paulo Dybala.
“It’s an important point, as it allows us to go to Olympiacos and play a game where a point is not enough, we need a win, or can go through with a defeat depending on what happens in Barcelona.”
Allegri lost Giorgio Chiellini to injury earlier today, so unveiled a new 3-4-2-1 formation.
“The lads did very well, so rather than have a full-back who would push up, I moved to three at the back with Andrea Barzagli static. It was the same players, as we had Juan Cuadrado, Alex Sandro and Douglas Costa, so it wasn’t a negative approach.
“I told the players that I was not interested in the result tonight, but in the performance. I saw the right spirit and heart, as when Juve defend in a certain way all together, it’s tough for us to concede goals.”
Sporting CP won 3-1 over Olympiacos this evening, so it all goes down to the final round. Juve have a superior head-to-head record with Sporting and the Portuguese side finish the group at Camp Nou, while the Bianconeri are in Greece.
“I said at the start that to get through this group, we needed at least eight points. Sporting won the opener in Greece and messed up my calculations and we might need 12 points.
“It’s strange, as last season we didn’t lose a Champions League game until the Final. The year before we conceded very few as well, but every year is different. We had to start from scratch today, as (in Sunday’s 3-2 Serie A defeat) against Sampdoria we let in goals that Juventus cannot concede. The focus was higher against Barcelona tonight, so we didn’t concede.”
It is a step forward from the 3-0 defeat at Camp Nou in September, but last season Juve won this fixture 3-0 in the Champions League quarter-final.
“We had a very good first half away to Barcelona, probably with better chances than we had tonight, but then we conceded on the stroke of half-time on a counter-attack. We melted in the first half with an extraordinary Leo Messi.
“It’s almost impossible to find time to train at the moment. We want to improve the quality of the football and our scoring opportunities, but we did improve the defence and I am glad about that. We might be less beautiful, but we are becoming more solid. The more you go on without conceding, the more confidence you have and the more chances you will create.
“We have to work on playing out from the back, as we made too many mistakes.”

Re: Juventus 2017/2018 Champions League Winners Thread
He's got a point, its hard to talk about which attackers start or midfielders, or formation, when were not doing the simple things and simply conceding too many goals
I'm glad for Rugani to play a match like this, in any circumstances, its time to become battle tested. I also thought Benatia did well today, and Barzagli is always what you would expect. I smiled when he beat Suarez in a foot race in the first half
We simply must defend better but with that being said, I feel like our attacking play is quite abysmal. We have no build up, its too easy to defend against. Higuain rarely gets more than 1-2 shots per game and they aren't easy chances like he had with Napoli, these are chances where the ball is played to his feet, like against Milan, and he has to do something special or when they play breaks down and he has to be faster like against Olympiacos
It was also nice to see Bentancur and Marchisio both come on, I thought that was great from Allegri
Douglas Costa is looking very much like a flop. Started brightly enough but after a few flashes he just fades. He wasn't terrible by any means but no signs of a marquee signing yet

Re: Juventus 2017/2018 Champions League Winners Thread
Agreed on all that.
I was campaigning for a different Brazilian winger during the summer than Costa. He is a Juve player now so I hope that he comes through and becomes great. Lets see if he avoids the flop tag.
On the build up play, I thought Bentancur and Marchisio did a lot better than Pjanic. Particularly when Marchisio came on he shifted the balance and we went on the front foot. Of course both were fresh and playing in a mid 3, but still, they looked good.

Not sure what happened with Pjanic after that small injury. He started the season on fire but then again it was as simple as passing Dybala who did the rest, now we are struggling on that front. Teams are playing Dybala very tightly and seemingly no one frees him
Agreed. Bentancur particularly impresses me just because of his age and being new to Europe and all, he's just immensely composed and talented. Marchisio is class, so I never doubt him on the field ever

So, we could end up permanently using a formation/line-up I wanted us to try since a couple of months ago.
Higuain
Bernardeschi - Dybala
Alex Sandro - Marchisio - Pjanic - Cuadrado
Chiellini - Rugani - Howedes
Buffon
Bernardeschi - Dybala
Alex Sandro - Marchisio - Pjanic - Cuadrado
Chiellini - Rugani - Howedes
Buffon

The Sampdoria defeat, Allegri took it personal... now he's got his mind back after a couple of stubborn months. Glad he understands that our defensive block is what doesn't work.
I don't have a problem with Cuadrado, if anything his partnership with Dybala is the most exciting we see from this team. BUT i have big problems with Douglas Costa and Higuain.
About D. Costa, i told it several times this summer, he was a joker card at best, most probably a fraud. Otherwise, why would Bayern separate from him ? I'm just disappointed to see i was right, and his repertoire mostly works in 1v1 situations.
About Higuain, he ain't even a threat nowadays, i bet most defenders aren't afraid of him. Slow, passive and needs to wake up. Honestly i don't want the club to build around him, i think he's past his peak.

Allegri got it completely right against Barcelona. He made the team defend, while it is a clean sheet against a Barcelona team that didn't have to play to win or even play with Messi for 55 minutes, its a clean sheet for us. We couldn't manage a clean sheet against Benevento, Udinese, Sampdoria, Genoa, Lazio etc. so this is always going to be a positive thing
We'll definitely win more matches than we will lose or draw if we defend with this kind of intensity
The attack isn't clicking, all these tools but maybe the chemistry is lacking between some of the players as brother warrior pointed out. I find our chance creation and build up play pretty poor and I blame the midfield here. Pjanic was quite poor again yesterday which is disappointing, given he is our most creative outlet here.
Also, we really try to play wide a lot but without Mandzukic, we have no aerial presence in the center. Higuain can't head the ball to save his life so its really just Khedira who could find a cross.
Something to build on though

We are gonna end up playing with Mandzukic in the double pivot if the midfield doesn't wake up.
Can't do any better that a terrifying, over-energetic, 1.90 monster to cover the defense. Even Benatia will look world class

Chiellini out for the match with Olympiakos with a stomach problem. Its either from eating every Napoli attack, or re-watching his passes after the match
Mandzukic back in and everyone else available
Juve squad for Olympiakos: Buffon, Pinsoglio, Szczesny; De Sciglio, Benatia, Alex Sandro, Barzagli, Rugani; Pjanic, Khedira, Marchisio, Matuidi, Asamoah, Sturaro, Bentancur; Cuadrado, Higuain, Dybala, Douglas Costa, Mandzukic, Bernardeschi

Not sure if necessary to use the "best" XI for this match

I think its important to field a strong attack, the earlier that we can score, the easier this game will become
Then we can sub off a Dybala and whomever with thoughts of Inter

This game is more important than Inter's. Dybala needs to play, he can rest during the weekend, or more likely, against Bologna.
If we lose against Inter we still have over half a league to make that up, if we dont win today we could be in for a world of trouble.
