Arsenal vs Koln

Post by Jay29 on Wed Sep 13, 2017 11:14 am

So, Europa League tomorrow. Podolski derby. Biggest game in decades for Koln, apparently. Lots of rotation for us, which shows what we think of it.

Cech, Koscielny, Xhaka, Ramsey, Ozil, Welbeck and Lacazette all sat out training today. The likely team is:

Ospina

Mustafi Mertesacker Holding

Nelson Elneny Wilshere Monreal

Walcott Alexis

Giroud

Maitland-Niles, Willock, Akpom and Nketiah all likely to be on the bench, too.

Pretty strong attack. Nice to see Wilshere playing again tbh. Hope he has lost his fat.

It's "Koeln", if you can't type the "ö" which noone expects you to be able to

We'll spell it as Koln here. Or Kawn.

When typing German, if umlaut letters are not available, it is usual to replace them with the underlying vowel followed by an ⟨e⟩. So, for example, "Schröder" becomes "Schroeder". As the pronunciation differs greatly between the normal letter and the umlaut, simply omitting the dots is incorrect. The result might often be a different word, as in schon 'already', schön 'beautiful'; or a different grammatic form, e.g. Mutter 'mother', Mütter 'mothers'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaeresis_(diacritic)#Printing_conventions_in_German

It's not that hard to remember, nor to type, and applies to every instance of the Umlaut.

It's Juergen Klopp, Joachim Loew, Thomas Mueller. Not Jurgen, Low, Muller. It's just an instance of showing minimal, basic respect towards foreign people's names IMO. English press is regrettably not caring to do that.

That's great.

But there's no need for that. Oezil is just fine.

I hope the club think of Europa League as another way to get back to CL, a lots less game and to some extend lesser opponents.

Pretty sure it'll be seen as another Mickey Mouse Cup. Especially when we get knocked out of R16.

We'll treat the cup with respect because we have a squad big enough to do that. The team we'll play against Köln will be strong, even though it's a rotation side.

We'll more than likely re-evaluate our priorities around January. We'll have a better idea of whether we'll finish in the top 4 or not and by then we'll probably know our opponents in the EL knockout stages. If it looks like a top 4 place is out of reach, we'll prioritize the EL like United did last season. All about that CL qualification.

See, that's what a rational manager who has his head screwed on right would do. Unfortunately, I strongly believe that it is no more the case for us. :sigh:

Team:

Ospina; Bellerin, Holding, Mertesacker, Monreal; Maitland-Niles, Elneny; Walcott, Iwobi, Alexis; Giroud

Subs: Macey, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Wilshere, Reine-Adelaide, Nelson, Akpom

Think it's a back four, but could be something mad again.

It's Koeln.

And there's no chance Koeln get a single point from either of the two games against you. They are really bad this season.

Match delayed by 60 minutes due to crowd problems.

Koln/Koeln/Cologne/Podolski FC took over 20,000 fans and they rushed to get in at once.

Either one of the latter three name versions is fine. The first, not.

Köln fans know this will be their only European football for the unforseeable future so they don't care about potential UEFA sanctions
