Re: Donald Trump watch
Don't live there anymore and never will again. But I have family there that I wouldn't be able to visit since my medication would be confiscated and I'd be charged with importing controlled substance, one of which is not FDA approved (EU Prostate Cancer medication) and the other would immediately be reclassified as schedule 4 since the reason it isn't doesn't exist anymore.
I'm not worried about him pushing the idea to the UN, it'll get struck down in a heartbeat since the definition they propose is inherently flawed but considering that everyone is worried about birthright citizenship and a refugee caravan people seem to have totally forgotten that Trump is breaching human rights. Doesn't help that mainstream media doesn't seem to care because attempting to erase a minority that has been used as a punchline in entertainment wont draw views
Nationalism, Anti-semitism, Overturning the countries constitution with presidential powers and oppression of minorities; Trump is literally Hitler, stupid edition and it's not even an exaggeration.

First of all, it's been one of the defining traits of Trump as a politician that he comes up with shocking stuff so regularly that it's impossible to give the proper scandalization to every instance.
Basically every second day he does something any other politician in such a high office would have to step down.
He's got the media, and most of us hypntized with this, which doesn't mean that we don't care about the specific instances or that we don't, on reflection, realize the egregious nature of his initiatives, or verbal attacks.
While of course you're right, the perpetuity of outrageousness itself serves to distract from what would have to be the consequence of such outrageous instances.
Second, I'd very much be against a competition of who's been hurt most between the racism, sheer environmental devastation, blind robbery of puplic property and the general population, corporatist corruption, aggressive sexism and misogyny, war-mongering, destruction of international alliances and institutions, and repression of LGBT rights this administration has perpetrated.
It's really not a contest.

Referendum on Trump tonight.
Hopefully Dems do well. Republicans will likely keep the Senate even if Dems do well though. If Dems win House but Republicans keep the Senate, watch the coming days for Trump to spin that as a victory

Re: Donald Trump watch
So far the only major loss for Democrats tonight has been Joe Donnelly losing his seat in Indiana. That was always going to be a tough one to keep though. Marsha Blackburn has won in Tennessee unfortunately so it looks like Taylor Swift's influence wasn't enough.
Florida is very close. De Santis slightly up for Gillum and Scott slightly over Nelson.
Stacy Adams has a lot of ground to make up on Kemp in Georgia as well.
The biggest story is O'Rourke and Cruz are tied neck and neck at 49% each. About 100 votes separate them. That's excellent news.
Overall, Democrats, especially in the House are doing quite well so far.

Just saw the amendment 4 passing in Florida.
Means 40% of black men in the state can vote in the future. That’s huge for democrats in 2020

Re: Donald Trump watch
Yup, that's a big win for just people in general who have done their time. More states need to do the same.
Also - Beto O'Rourke falls just short of Ted Cruz in Texas. Cruz wins 51% to 48% for O'Rourke.
This doesn't feel like a loss though for the Dems. Cruz, despite being less than human, was expected to keep his seat. That was a very close race though, the closest in the last 25 years in Texas. For one of the great Republican strongholds, that was very nearly a huge loss for them.
Most importantly, I think the Dems have found probably as good a frontrunner for 2020 as Harris is. He is the Obama to her Clinton. The future is a good one for the Dems at least over the next couple of years.

Re: Donald Trump watch
In my state, It's all Dem wins so far. Whitmer has won the governor's race and we now have our first female Muslim in congress in Rashida Tlaib who ran unopposed.
The GOP have not won a single House race so far.
NBC News just called it. The Democrats have won back control of the House of Representatives. However, with the losses of Donnelly and Heitkamp, the GOP will keep control of the Senate as they have gained 2 more seats.
This is huge as now the Democrats are going to take direct control over the Mueller investigation, which as been run by the House Intelligence Committee.

Re: Donald Trump watch
Beto really needs to ride this wave. Incredible effort.
Good thing is he seems more popular everywhere else than he does in Texas. I can’t see a more popular democratic candidate right now.

Re: Donald Trump watch
Florida Governor race just got called by NBC News. Democrat Andrew Gillum falls short, loses to Republican Ron DeSantis by about 70k votes or 49.7% for DeSantis to Gillum's 48.9%.
That one hurts a bit as there was a lot of enthusiasm for Gillum.
It doesn't look good for Stacey Adams in Georgia as well. Brian Kemp has a big lead over her, but the race hasn't been called yet. Looks. Like voter suppression will decide that race.
Kemp should have an asterisk next to his name for practically rigging this election in his favor.

Re: Donald Trump watch
I find the voting in the US absolutely bonkers. Voting suppression has got to end soon, one of the most undemocratic practices I've seen.
Those electronic voting machines are also ridiculous.
I've voted about 4 times now I reckon. Has never taken me more than 5 minutes to cast my vote.

Re: Donald Trump watch
Also seeing sentiment on the web that democrats didn't make a wave this election, which is obviously false.
Seems like they more than had a wave.
The NYT currently projects a national popular-vote margin of D+9.2%. For comparison, the last five largest margins, considered wave elections:
— Sam Wang (@SamWangPhD) 7. november 2018
1994: R+7.1%
2006: D+8.0%
2008: D+10.6%
2010: R+7.2%
2014: R+5.7%
By historical standards, it's a popular wave.https://t.co/IRkQLDZ2dX

Re: Donald Trump watch
I think it depends on where you expect that blue wave to hit. I think overall, it came.
It hit across the Midwest and predictably hit in both New York and California plus other places along both seaboards.
Dems were very competitive in Texas and still are in Arizona, Maine, Nevada and other battlegrounds.
In terms of competitive races like the big 2 in Florida, I agree. The blue wave didn't really show up in the size we thought it would, but then again Florida is a Republican stronghold these days so that's not surprising.
Abrams is gaining ground in Georgia and Atlanta are still counting the votes now so that one may end up being much closer. I still think she'll fall short though unfortunately.

Still have a problem with the senate system.
Democrats have 8 million more votes but are a lot behind because land counts more than people.

Re: Donald Trump watch
Wisconsin governor race could come down to hundreds. Insanely close.
How this fucking state keeps voting for walker I'll never know. I'm fuming.
What's worse is that Baldwin won easily. She's running ahead of evers. WHO IS SPLITTING THEIR TICKET BETWEEN AN OPENLY GAY PROGRESSIVE WOMAN AND SCOTT WALKER
God damn it
Really happy for you though McLewis. Michigan has a bit more sense than WI.

Re: Donald Trump watch
94.9% precincts reporting, Evers is down by less than a thousand.
Nobody is talking about it but this vote isn't just about principle and the governor's mansion in terms of policy creation. This vote controls WI redistricting for 2020. Wisconsin is one of the most gerrymandered states in the US.
I don't have much faith. I think we're going to lose by a small margin. There will be a recount and it will confirm Evers lost.
And it will be Walker again.
