Does anyone know more details about this? I would these things only happen in other parts of the world in the lesser leagues... this is quite crazy, and apparently it due to their own fans not happy missing out on CL?

Sporting's situation this year is complicated. Iirc the president straight up insulted a bunch of the players in the media before the EL match didn't he? it caused a circus

Yeah. Here is the story:

The team was doing poorly in a run of games in the league, then went to Atletico and lost. The president insulted the players, naming a bunch of them, on facebook after the game finished.

A bunch of the players signed a message on instagram against the public insult.

The president retaliated by suspending all 19 players involved (the whole first team).

Then a back and forth started where the suspension seemed to have been lifted, but the president called it a rebellion.

Actually after that they won a bunch of games, including against Atletico but lost on goal difference. Still it wasn't enough to make CL.

So the atmosphere has been a circus for a while. Now the fans attacked the team like proper animals, and some players are said to leave immediately. Which damages Sporting even more.

Cant imagine how I would feel if I were a Sporting player atm, its not just like occupational safety issue Razz To play with that kind of fear or conflict. Dark times for the club... and doesnt show well for the league at all.

Bas Dost got his ass beat, alongside many others on the first team.

It is rumoured that the president facilitated this violence,

Either way, Sporting is now a supermarket, would take half their squad atm, Dost was made for serie a, come home buddy

what the *bleep* ? that's unreal is true. Or is it just speculation.

Dost has an unreal record out there IIRC. Milan should definitely save him.
