Final rating of your signings

Post by Nishankly on Wed May 23, 2018 8:42 pm

Ill start with my team coz I support them lol

Dominic Solanke: C-

Came on free, He's young. He needs a loan.
Struggled scoring throughout but was always involved in a few key goals, Finally got his deserved goal and an assist on the last day of the season. A total of 1 goal and 2 assists, With 3 key passes.

Andrew Robertson: B+

Started very slowly, Had great performances but couldn't break into the team with large parts of just disappearing from the squad. Came back in and made the LB spot his own after Moreno's injury. Always a willing runner and a great fullback all in all. Doubt at dealing with crosses like any other FB.

Mohammed Salah: A+++

44 goals 18 assists and counting mashallah

Alex Oxalade Chamberlain: B+

Required nearly 6 months of Klopp's attention before we could start playing him centrally. Plays with his heart rather than his head and we've been trying to change that, Broke his knee sliding in at the half line while we were 3-0 up against Roma is everything you need to know about his desire in the game. Catalyst in many games, Links the midfield to the attack. Loves scoring against City. Absolutely distraught he'll miss the CL final and the WC.

Finished with 5 goals and 8 assists.

Virgil Van Dijk: A

Came in with the price tag, Something everyone will talk about regardless. Had his few lapses as he adjusted to a team that can't defend for shit, But since we've signed him, We've had 8 clean sheet, The highest in the PL since January. He's doing it right. Great distributor as well. Future captain.

Final rating: A

We did not replace Coutinho or key areas lacking (except VVD) in the squad, Klopp once again took to coaching and internal solutions rather than signing proven lads. We've just about managed and im glad.

What about yours?

tbh vvd has been outstanding for us. as you say the team was all over the shop in defence before he came and has done far more than i thought he would tbh. not worth 75mil but 25mil of that money was kiss ass money for tapping up.

Costa - A+

Best performer in the 2nd half of the season. Delivered in key moments in Juve's scudetto stretch.

Matuidi - C+

Not particularly a fan of this signing. Was solid for us until he got injured for 2 months and subsequently returned to play like a degraded version of Sissoko

De Sciglio - B-

Solid when called upon. Probably one of the surprises of the season but he's injury prone.

Bernardeschi - B+/A

Dint get much game time this year(injuries contributed too) but when he did, he impressed in most of them. One for the future.

Szczesny - A

Was terrific whenever called upon. I feel really safe knowing Szczesny will be guarding the goal next year.

Douglas Costa: A

Costed a lot and had many Juventini skeptical on if he was worth it. Took his time to adapt too. Finally did and became a beast. Fast, tricky, effective. Particularly when he moved to left he became an assist machine in the final stretch of the season.

Bernardeschi: A-

Given the signings and the stacked attack he had little opportunities. Still played well everytime he had a chance and always looked to do something. Had the kind of weight to his game where every action felt like something was about to happen. Injuries ended his season way too early.

De Sciglio: B+

As usual he was plagued by injuries. Still, when he was fit, always looked solid. Was our most reliable fullback this season, particularly stark contrast when he wasn't playing as Licht is finished.

Szczesny: B

Didn't really play much as expected. Did well when he called upon. Not much of an impact either way, filled in well. His real impact is not this season, its the next one when there is potential for a lot.

Bentancur: B-

Encouraging showings for him that make me believe he can be a really good player in the future. For the moment though, he is clearly still growing. 20 year old moving from Argentina so its expected.

Matuidi: C

Only featured so much because his competition is Sturaro. Mostly useless.

Howedes: F

2 appearances all season. Enough said.

Final rating: B

Massive improvement in attack. Younger options. Got Buffon's replacement. Failed to fix the midfield so the rating can't be only positive.

Skriniar A +++

Fantastic signing as I haven't seen for years. One of most unexpected beautiful things ever.He almost violates my eterosexuality. He has played all the minutes of the season 2017-2018. Young but already leader. Made finally peace with the Slovakian people after they had created Vratislav Gresko . So he is also a man of peace.

Cancelo A

Been best Serie A fullback in that role. Shame he cost so much and Valencia doesn't look like  intended to  get us a deal. But it'd be crime to not keep him back.

Rafinha A

Been one of our difference maker in 2nd half of season. Not just class but also (especially) leadership that is needed in a team that lacks of it. Genuinely convinced that we would have never got 4th place without him. Similar speech for Cancelo , he is not still ours and we MUST get back.

Vecino B

Been good on 1st half of season , played badly on 2nd half of season.
But man , he scores the decisive goal to give us CL. It is clearly B.

Karamoh B -

Paid a low price. He must be still developed, showed good things but intermittently. Scored a decisive (and great ) goal against Bologna ( that is enough to have scored more than Candreva . ) and been important against Lazio. Caused corner kick for 2-3 , good defensive job on final ... I think he can become good

Borja Valero B - -

First 2 months were good, but then he showed to be declined. Anyway decent for his price ( 6 mln)

Lisandro Lopez C

Signed just as 4th CB in January. Showed to be scrub ( what can you expect from a Benfica backup ? ) but luckily he hadn't other chances to cause damages.

Dalbert D

That 's everything you can expect from the definition " terrible signing ".
Paid so much , played very badly.
He's been awful , he doesn't even seem a Serie A footballer.
I'd think to change job since the awful Santon plays in place of you

Niklas Süle:  A

Came as a 21 year old,  a young age for a CB, with the World Cup winning pair of Boateng and Hummels as well as a sure starter in Martinez ahead of him.
Got a lot of game time still, which shows how much coaches trusted him. Injuries to Boateng, and Martinez changing into midfield helped of course.
Was thrown in at the deep end in his forst ever CL game, away at PSG, in a poory assembled and unmotivated lineup, and couldn't handle Mbappé.
Seven months later, away at the Bernabeu, he was one of the best players on the pitch, with a world class performance of agile, commanding and reliable CB play.
He can be counted on and is one of the biggest positives for our future.

Sebastian Rudy: D+

In the beginning, during the murky latter part of Carlo's reign, he could be described as the most consistent, and only solid of our midfielders.
Still, he was 4th choice in central midfield and his situation got worse when Heynckes reinstalled Martinez as deepest midfielder. Got worse and more and more irrelevant as the season went on.
Good player, but not really enough for us and should probably leave sooner rather than later.

Corentin Tolisso: C

Most expensive signing of our history, he still arrived with rather little fanfare, as he wasn't a name well known to us and noone expected him to be a star signing, luckily if paradoxically considering the price.
He was inconsistent in his performances, some really good ones, quite a few poor one.
Consistently he showed he is a serious goal threat, he has presence, but he can't control or calm down a game.
Still, looking forward to where he can develop.

James Rodriguez: B-

Provided some glamour to our glamourless transfer window, was thought to be Carlo's wish as an attacker, yet was barely used in attack, rarely by Carlo and less by Jupp.
Some great games as a quasi-10, funnily enough better with Müller on the pitch, some very decent games as a central midfielder, running back, working hard, he was a good part of our team.
Quite a few anonymous games too.
Recently he has dissapointed me with too many dangerous balls given away, like some lackluster version of Thiago with slightly higher goal threat.
If we keep Thiago, we do not need to buy James. And I'd prefer Thiago over him definitively, as Thiago is a better all-round midfielder bottom line.
James is not a world class player.

Sandro Wagner: C+ (mid season signing)

We didn't have a backup striker , we got a backup striker. That's basically it regarding the rating.
Mediocre to decent player who does a job, is physically strong and a obnoxious *bleep*. Poor as dirt man's Diego Costa, we accept him as he's part of the family. Spent all his youth at Bayern, wasn't good enough to make it, went to 2nd to 3rd tier clubs, landed at Hoffenheim, made it back. Good for him. None of that qualifies him for the NT though, contrary to his own opinion.

btw, @Nishankly , what in the world has Robertson got to do do get an A?

Bought for single digit millions, young kid, from a small club, got in the team only late fall, not a single bad performance and hugely instrumental in Liverpool's success this season? Arguably best LB in the Premier league 17/18?

Because he took until December to overthrow Moreno which was only because Moreno got injured and that's unacceptable considering Moreno is pretty bad.

If anything I'm mad at him for taking so long.

Do me a favor. No idea where this love affair with the kid came from, especially in Hans case. No, not 'arguably the best LB in the league' he's likely not been a top 5 LB. @Zigra @WhoScored. He seems pretty good, but let's stay grounded in reality please.

Merino B+

Would be higher as he was mostly great when he played but was injured a lot after Christmas and towards the end of the season Diame and Shelvey didn't deserve to be dropped.

Lejeune B+

Excellent alongside Lascelles but average alongside Clark but I'm choosing to believe that's more because Clark is a championship defender.

Would be a CL defender if he had a bit more pace IMO.

Joselu F

Absolutely terrible lmao, only saving grace is he is exactly what we knew he was. A bargain basement striker for a team which needed a body.

Jacob Murphy C+

Young player who showed some promise and had some good performances but ultimately was too raw and inconsistent to be anything more

Islam Slimani F

Hardly played due to injury, doubt we'll sign him permanently.  It was a wild stab in the dark trying to stay up but ultimately wasn't needed as the other two loan signings were excellent.

Dubravka A-

Absolutely excellent, a key reason we comfortably stayed up in the end and probably our best keeper since Given tbh based on his performances so far and I expect we'll sign him permanently.

Kenedy A+

Couldn't expect anything better from this signing, he was a goalscoring threat, created chances and all in all just made the team massively better.

Don't really understand why he wasn't starting for Chelsea, he's not a fullback but he very good winger and he's better than anything they've got except for Hazard.

I hope we sign him permanently but that will depend on who else wants him and if Ashley actually allows Rafa to spend which seems unlikely.

Lukaku B+

Didn't have much to work with and still recorded the best overall campaign of his career in terms of goals scored, was often our best creator too. I don't rate him that highly but was very impressed with his attitude, always gave 100% when others around him gave half of that.

Lindelof D

Had never heard of him mentioned anywhere before rumours linking him to us started to happen. Looked decent at best in the Portuguese league. No idea why he was brought in as he wasn't rated super highly. 35m euros and the few times he started he looked incredibly nervous, cost us points and just seemed shit everywhere. Already being linked to ambitious clubs like Wolves, finished here after a season.

Matic A

What can you say about him? well known to PL fans. Top 5 DM in the world. Still shocked Chelsea sold him to us. Captain material. Fairly one dimensional but he is GOAT where you want him to be for his position. Scored one of the goals of the season too in injury time to win us 3 points. Already one of our best midfielders since prime Fergie era. Mr reliable. Hope he finishes his career here.

Re: Final rating of your signings

Defrel: D

Very unlucky with injuries, but this was just a poor transfer to begin with. Hopefully he's fit next season. 1 goal in 23 total appearances and we still owe Sassuolo ~20m. Must come good next season.

Schick: C

Showed flashes of the talent we paid Samp almost 40m for, but injuries and a lack of preseason have made those flashes far too infrequent for my liking. With 4 goals in 29 total appearances, it's been hard for me to get on this bandwagon, but a full season of contributing can change that.

Under: A+

Our attacking revelation this season. This kid has some steel under his skin and if he continues to impress like he did this season, the sky is the limit. 9 goals, 2 assists in 35 total appearances at 20 are good stats for a player at this stage of his career. A sophomore slump wouldn't be a surprise though.

Gonalons: C+

This was actually one of my favorite signings when it was announced. I've liked Gonalons for quite some time. He frankly underwhelmed, but despite that showed he can do the simple things well, is a good passer out of the back and has presence aerially. At this stage of his career, he really should be challenging our starters.

Karsdorp: INC

So unfortunate, but it wouldn't be a true Roma summer without signing a highly-touted player only for him to come in totally crocked. That said, we're so badly in need of a RB that isn't named Florenzi or Bruno Peres that I have to be on the Karsdorp bandwagon. He's got a big job ahead of him to justify that 16m we paid Feyenoord for him. He didn't play anywhere near enough for me to give him a proper grade.

Jonathan Silva: F

A straight up panic signing after we sold Emerson and Moreno flopped. Thankfully Kolarov has a combo of nectar, ambrosia and ice in his veins as he belied his age and made this kid irrelevant. Came to us injured (but not seriously like Karsdorp), made 2 token appearances, picked up a yellow card and we're now shipping him back to Sporting. In other words, we" noped" out of this deal.

Pellegrini: C+

The next great Roman hope. Arrived amid much fanfare as the prodigal son returning home. With 3 goals and 5 assists across 40 appearances, he found the going tough from a personal perspective as his attacking play left a lot to be desired and he was never really a defensive player. Wasn't terrible, but also wasn't the key contributor we though he could be. We'll see if he fares better next season.

Kolarov: A+

Best signing of the season, one of the best LB signings in recent memory and probably one of the best signings across the top 5 leagues in term of wages, age, and contribution. It's rather simple. Without Kolarov, our CL run would never have happened. Without Kolarov, we're not even in next season's CL. He's been that important to this team. I've officially forgiven him for playing for Lazio. For a full-back in the twilight of his career, he was an absolute unit for us this season.

Moreno: F

As a fan of a CONCACAF nation, I always root for players from that region that join Roma. I was an ardent Bradley supporter during his time here and I instantly got behind Moreno when we signed him. So him leaving midseason after making a paltry 5 appearances was a bit of a blow. I don't know what Juan Jesus had that he didn't, but I really hate that this didn't work out. The only upside is that he came to us relatively cheap so this was a loss we should be able to absorb as fluidly on the financial end as we did on the pitch.

Final Grade: C

I believe in Monchi and I trust the process, but we just need to sign players who can make an immediate impact. The only one who fit that bill was Kolarov (Under's impact came much, much later in the season). Too many names above were quite simply a waste of money we can't really afford to be wasting. The better these signings do, the better we recover from having to sell a top player and starting from square one again in the summer.

Sead Kolasinac - C

Won over fans early on by looking like a tank and has a sledgehammer of a left foot. Unfortunately, a few good goals doesn't quite make up for the poor positioning and lazy defending that saw him lose his place to Monreal (not that there's much shame in that - Monreal got second in our player of the year award Laughing). Not bad for a free signing, but has to improve in his second season.

Konstantinos Mavropanos - N/A

Didn't play nearly enough to get a good assessment. Thought he had a strong game at Old Trafford in his league debut, an okay game against Burnley and a crap one against Leicester where he got sent off. Should be receiving more games next season.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan - B

I'm very happy we traded away Sanchez to get him. He's slotted in right away and has shown signs he can be a creative force for us, whether that's alongside Ozil or without him. My only concern with him is consistency as his game seems to fall apart completely when he's not on form, but at the moment he's looking to be a great piece of business.

Alex Lacazette - B

Was brought in to be the star striker, started strong, but faded big time when the team's form went off a cliff. He had to feed on scraps for most of the season, but he showed an excellent work ethic, intelligent movement and quality finishing when a chance did come his way. His conversation rate is as good as any top striker around and his end of season form gives me confidence he'll hit 20+ next season so long as we provide the opportunities for him.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - A

10 goals and 3 assists in 14 games is ridiculous for someone who just joined the club (his conversion rate was 31%, which is freakishly good, albeit unsustainable). He looks like he's been playing in the Premier League this whole time. He looks great whether he's playing LW or CF and he should be banging them in next season. Money very well spent.

Douglas Costa: A

Started slow and didn't look anything special first but then completely transformed into a beast. For sure a game changer many times for us.Thanks to his pace and tricks he creates chaos against opponent's defenders. If he continues at this level for the next season then money well spent for sure.

Bernardeschi: B++

Didn't had an impact like Costa mostly due to some minor injuries and his position already cemented by Cuadrado. But anytime he played he showed his qualities.Has enough tricks to beat players 1on1 despite not being as pacy as Costa.Always eager to get involved and has a fine vision for the final pass.Next season with Cuadrado probably being pushed to RWB he should get more playing time.

De Sciglio: B

Didn't had the chance to play regularly due to injuries. He likes to keep it simple and not risk it going forward too much.I could say he has been solid and definetly seen him improve a bit during the last part of the season (last games) by being a bit more aggresive and going forward more.Next year I see him and Cuadrado a pretty good/solid duo for the RB spot.

Szczesny: B

Again someone who didn't play as much. But when he played he did nothing wrong. His good passing game (for a keeper) could be another useful tactic for us next season.Already feeling safe for our GK spot next season.

Bentancur: B

I'm really impressed by him.You can tell that he isn't the finished product yet but he is eager to play and improve.I didn't knew he had this "grinta" in him.Not scared to go forward or on a tackle.Could be a very good all-around midfielder in a few seasons.

Matuidi: B-

Would have been a B++ if it wasn't for his form in 2nd part if the season after his injury. Not sure how long it will last but he's been pretty mediocre after that.Prior to injury during the 1st part of the season he was pretty solid. At some time our second best midfielder (after Pjanic).Brought energy and some stability to our defensively/physically fragile midfield but clearly isn't a pleasure seeing him going forward.

Howedes: C-

Injured all the time.Never doubted his qualities but he's been useless due to injuries.Should be sent back to Schalke unfortunately.

Final rating: B

(+)We improved our attacking options where we were really short.Costa turned out to be great and Bernardeschi already seems very promising.
( - )Didn't do anything serious to fix the blackhole in our midfield.

Re: Final rating of your signings

Our last transfer campaign looked good on paper, lots of good young players, spanish talents, and they played so little it's hard to rate them. But nonetheless...

Llorente: C-
Great DM when he was Alaves, enjoyed a good season so we thought he would finally provide that much needed DM back up help we were in need of. Zidane Iced him, now i just see pictures of him training. played some odd games here and there but i can't recall him having an impact on the season

Ceballos: C
great talent, he was never a natural fit given the number of midfielders we have but we signed him nonetheless. Again, not a problem with the talent, but Zidane did not play him, when he did, it was in copa with all the subs and they were not looking great.

Vallejo: D
Another great talent that was not put in the best conditions to progress but even when he did, he made a lot of mistakes in CL and in la liga.

Mayoral: C+
theme is consistent here, he did not play and lot but he scored some goals here and there. He never had the level to be a valuable back up for the first team, we knew it but he stayed anyway.

Theo: C+
He played a lot more than the other guys. Zidane often employed him in the double fullback system (complete fail) with Marcelo on the left. He struggled a lot to show his quality, at least the same quality he showed at Alaves. Again, non impactful season and needs to perform much better.

Bonus Hakimi C-
Not a signing but Castilla graduate. He also made some terrible mistakes when he played. superb attacking talent, just needs time, but he wasnt good enough when he played for us.

Overall, transfer window was a C.

I would agree Nick, but overall rating is an F, for what they didn’t do, and not having the foresight to see you can’t have that many kids and give them the amount of playing time they need.

Surely, it's not the James you loaned from Real Madrid? The guy who picked up Özil's mantle of laziness hmm

Mateo Musacchio: D-
He was supposed to start alongside Romagnoli before Bonucci happened, we move to a 3-4-1-2 to accomodate him, didnt impress, relegated to bench switched to 4-3-3, behind Zapata in the pecking order.

Franck Kessie: D+
A few goals doesn’t impress me, which is why this management is so f*cking retarded, and why they are going for Veretout who has 11 goals. Goals dont make a great midfielder you FUT melts. Literally useless outside of goals, gets bodied by 5 foot peeps.

Hakan Calhanoglu: C-
Another fraud riding on the coattails of that sham of a league. I’ve seen better FKs from worse players, 0 brain, uncreative, slow, cant defend, cant pass unless he has 20 yards of space and 0 pressure.

Kalinic : F-
Nothing needs to be said

Silva: D-
Should pursue a career in photography based om his twitter account

Bonucci: B-
He was terrible in the beginning, but everyone was. When Gattuso came and we switched to 4 back, he was fantastic, we kept like 10 clean sheets or something. Formed a great partnership with Alessio. I believe he can be better.

Conti: N/A
Poor guy got an ACL tier, but if i were to rate him on his couple games, A+.

RR: C
Decent LB, incredible in FIFA, but he’s error prone. Can score FKs better than Hakan. Penalties too. Got a mean cross as well.
