Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Granted, I don't rate our current crop that highly. I've cooled on Nelson a lot since he didn't show a lot in those end of season games when he was playing his preferred position and Willock looks plain average as an attacking midfielder. Nketiah looks electric at youth level but the competition in attack is too strong for him at the moment (going up against a world class forward in Aubameyang and another great attacker in Lacazette). He needs a loan somewhere, otherwise he's only opportunities are going to come on the flanks.
The age group under them have a few really promising players, but it's too early to assess. Smith-Rowe stands out the most for basically being a mini De Bruyne but again, it's a very dense part of the squad he's looking to break into. Xavier Amaechi looked brilliant in the FA Youth Cup and u17 Euros and I think he'll get a chance sooner than the others, just for being an explosive left footed winger. Bukayo Saka is the same (left footed, rapid) but not as skilful. Then you've got Tyreece John-Jules, Trae Coyle, Vontae Daley-Campbell and Flo Balogun as well who will be mainstays in the u23s for a while.
So we have a few promising English lads coming up, though I think we'll be lucky to see even one make himself an establish first team player.
As for Chambers and Holding, this a big season for them. Both have signed new contracts recently so will be looking to prove that was the right decision, while Koscielny's injury and Mustafi's badness means there's a spot up for grabs next to Sokratis for the first half of the season. The pressure is mostly on Chambers imo since he's had his loan already. If he doesn't establish himself now he won't have any chances left. Holding at least can go on loan if he's still struggling for minutes, and Mavropanos is new.

but IIRC there was leaked photo of mark Hughes pre match Notes in 2009(4-2 vs city) in which he had specifically ordered city players to drag Vermaelen out of position
Now imagine vermaelen x2

but similar tendencies, aggressive defending passion merchant who gets exposed vs intelligent movement and dragged out of position

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Sokratis is closer to Koscielny in his prime, very aggressive (not dumb aggressive like Vermaelen and Mustafi), great tackler, tough, can save you goals on his own.
He can handle himself well enough, as for how we defend as a unit, that depends on the work Unai Emery does with the boys. Even a Bonucci can look clueless when he’s out of the Allegri system so that’s the most important part.
With that said, I too hoped we would add another CB to partner him but Emery seems to trust Mustafi/Chambers to step up, we’ll see if that works.

I would like to know too. He looked so promising and mature the first couple of times I saw him play.

-- We're not after N'Zonzi
-- He's very happy with the business that's been done
-- We'll only sign one more player if a "big possibility" appears
-- Mentioned that we had a lot of young players and a few could leave on loan
-- Has told the transfer team that he wants Ramsey to stay

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If they actually sign High profile CB
Maybe Emery can Lure Kimpembe
Need Kos replacement and can be financed by selling Mustafi

Kimpembe would be perfect for us, young left sided CB. Uff.
Zero chance of PSG letting him leave though.
We have a strange case of having too many of our experienced CB's preferring to play RCB and only one LCB (Koscielny), who is out for a long time and shouldn't be counted on. That's my worry with Sokratis, he will be shoehorned as a LCB when he prefers to play as the right sided CB.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Selling both Welbz and Lucas would leave us light in attack, though it would be a big chance for Eddie, The Jeff and Nelson to step-up and become regulars.
Ospina, Jenkinson, Campbell and Akpom should all leave. It's not going to work out for any of them.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Emery wants two more signings for the squad, with a fast, direct winger being his priority.
However, we have to sell a few players first.
The club is apparently willing to listen to offers for Cech, Ospina, Monreal, Jenkinson, Mustafi, Lucas and Welbeck.
If Monreal goes, a new left back will be signed.
Cech has been linked with a return to Chelsea, Ospina is being linked with Besiktas. If both end up going, Martinez or Macey could be made number two.
I don't think all of those players will leave, but the end of our window might not be as quiet as first thought.

Keep Monreal, the left back market is dire.
Sell all of the rest for all I care, wouldn't mind Lucas staying though for back up purposes.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If Real Socieded (the most recently linked to Monreal) offer the £20m that's been reported, then we should definitely take that and buy a young left back from somewhere. Monreal is decent, but not so good that we should be turning down good money for him.
If Welbeck and Lucas end up staying, I don't think that's a bad result. They can be useful backup players. However, if selling them means freeing up funds and room for a winger, I'm all for it. That'd be sensible business.
I wouldn't mind Mustafi going either, however that leaves us reliant on three young centre backs until Koscielny is fit again so it's a bit risky. Then again, playing Mustafi every game is just as risky, so screw it. Sell to whoever is dumb enough to buy him.

I do hope Emery gets what he wants though. Sell all those scrubs and buy 2 fresh players we need. Agreed about a quick and direct winger. Left back would be nice too
