Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
- Spoiler:
- Last episode faked Dexter's death and in the final scene it is revealed he cut all ties and became a lumberjack. People hated it.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
I thought S5 of Dexter was still okay, obviously not the same level of the first four seasons, but it wasn't bad at all. I can understand the disappointment for the rest of the seasons, but then again, I didn't see much wrong with the actual ending of the show.
Dexter the character remains my favourite TV character of all time though.

Didn't care for the ending, but i thought it was reasonable tbh.
The best part of Dexter was him to trying to balance his killing needs, work, and family. Dexter attempting to play a balance act is engrossing and chaotic. After S4, a good amount of that is gone.

When are his dark materials and watchmen releasing? Any reason to keep my HBO subscription for the next few months?

8.2 for Lost seems like a really bad joke. Can't imagine the GoT finale will be anywhere as bad as the last Lost season was.

Series before 2008 shouldn't really be factored in imo. Would think people who hated in when it aired don't go back to vote year after.
Also missing HIMYM with a 5.6
Also 30 Rock "worst show ever" with a 9.1

HIMYM finale was an abomination. Worse than Game of thrones by a mile
Isn't 30 Rock generally well liked?
Glad House is rated that highly. Truly an elite show

I see a real correlation between highly rated finales having a lot of fanservice often. At least in the comedy realm.
HIMYM really swung for the fences with their episodes and I appreciated it for that.
30 Rock was a reference to McAgger calling my taste shit. It's one of the most beloved comedies of all time from the film school crowd.
Also. Watch Fleabag now ffs. Had the greatest finale of all time.

I didn't hate the ending fwiw, and if you look at the graph you posted most people disliked it but didn't hate it. I feel like Lost gets an undue rep as 'the worst ending ever' when there are shows that have done a far worst show.
Imminently bingeable and totally worth a watch.

Same writer as season 1 of Killing Eve, so it's related

Nah it wasn't because of how it's rated but because how it's spoiled basically. But i might anyways.

The disparity between the feeling of wonder and mystery, and horror actually, the first season, and in stretches the later seasons too until season 4, manages to produce when I started watching it, and the just underwhelming and rather silly way the whole thing went on and the brain dead way it eventually ended, is just too big for me to be able to recommend.
I had started to watch it when the first season had already finished, I wasn't expecting too much, and next thing you know I was literally standing and waiting at 7 in the mornig for the damn video store to open so I could get the next dvds with the episodes we hadn't thought of lending yet, after having binged all night.
Season 1 ending and cliffhanger, I never anticipated a next season like this before or again.
It was top entertainment, and obviously anyone watching would have been aware there could impossibly be "answers" to the 'mysteries' produced. They decided to provide answers, sigh. Fucking frauds.
I'll never forgive neither JJ Abrams nor Damon Lindelof for this nonsense.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
That being said, the damage to Lost was not done by the finale, it was done by the last and next to last seasons.
At the point of the finale the whole thing had become laughable already and everyone had gone from mad to just disappointed and sarcastic.
I didn't even care about the finale, you say you know how it ends?
I couldn't actually tell you anymore how exactly it ends, that's how random the whole thing had become. I don't even remember. It ends with some sort of diffuse nothing.

Haven't even watched GoT but based on the last month and a half this is essentially word for word what you could say about GoT based on how I've seen the world react lmao

Tbf to JJ he had little to do with Lost after the 1st season. It was mostly Carleton and Lindelof

Lindelof has also dismissed the "they were dead the entire time" ending multiple times. I might watch it for that reason alone.
I thought his handling of not explaining The Leftovers was what made that show a masterpiece.
Guess I'll have to watch Lost now to have a legit opinion about the matter

The finale to The Leftover is very much in the "I don't know WTF I just watched, but I loved it" category for me. What an odd, yet excellent show. That 2nd season was weak sauce, but the 1st and 3rd seasons were amazing. Squashed my beef with Lindelof after Lost.

Wait, season 2 was weak? You're the first I've ever heard say that. I thought everything except the middle of season 1 was incredible. Season 1 is hated in general and is seen as something to get through.
International Assassin and I Live Here Now are two of the best episodes I've ever seen of any show.

I honestly enjoyed season 1 quite a bit, but yeah I'm definitely in the minority there along with not particularly liking season 2.

True. Think Abrams was already completely gone after season 1.
And I don't believe the story they kept spreading between seasons to placate fans that they had an ending mapped out from the beginning which Abrams had conceived as a whole and everything was under control.
These fuckers were making it up as they went along
