by the way, i continue to believe that Lopetegui would have have had more tools to deal with these park the bus team. he had prepared a 3 a the back tactic that wroked very well during the qualifiers, and we did not even see the color of that in this tournament. Hierro was not good enough.

russia and uruguay were not boring, you recognize the talent you have, you play to that talent's strength, and when you get the opportunity to get the job done, you take it. a world cup isn't the time to play suicidal type football. considering i have spent the last couple of years complaining about the defensive nature of the game from people we consider "top" defenders. its refreshing to see sides mentally vested on defensive schemes

They would have been comfortably through under Lopategui. Guy had spain playing good in the qualifiers and they looked threatening for once.

Hierro was a desperate move and a move no one wanted. Gamble which didn't pay off. Would have been better if they had gone for Rafa instead.

Spain have not produced a world class forward i god knows how long, that's why they are not reaching late stages of NT tournaments. Can't do anything without direct pacy forwards in this game

I don't think Russia could have approached this match differently. Spain pass a lot without purpose. Penalties is a 50-50 thing

I would never have taken Diego Costa off, not because he was playing well but because when you need a goal you look to the best striker you have. Sampaoli-esque decision.

Only haters would condemn Russia for how they played

spain had russia where they wanted, they scored first, but piquenbauer decided to channel his inner maradona, that's just rookie defending , worse than rookie defending, as a defender one of the first things you're taught is not to have your hand up in crossing or set piece situations, the hands stay behind your back if you're on the ground and at your sides if in the air. this is a defender with 10 plus years experience. diego's ussr handball in 90 was much smarter.

was an entertaining game for me, there's a lot of time to watch blow outs once club football starts against some hapless side
