I have no issue with having Croatia in the semi-final. They have the best midfielder in the world and very, very talented players. But Denmark and that joke of a team Russia have no business being there. I hope someone ends them before they reach that far.

As much as Spain deserve this just desserts, the Spain under JLo actually had a more direct approach. They played to score, not this warped version of Don Vicente's tactics Hierro mustered.

Most of Spain's teams looked good in qualifying and then played really boring when the tournament happened.

I see no reason why this team would have been any different.

I just struggle to understand what you expect tbh, he was receiving the ball in areas nobody can consistently do damage from.

For him to meet your expectations with the areas he was given the ball he'd have to repeat things he's done only a few times into a close to 15 year career.

Messi manages it every other week in la liga, maybe you need to tune in again.

He set this level of expectation by himself, and now that we expect magic again, we are served with an average player in a poor team.

we signed him for something else, because had he won, the comparison would have gone straight to Maradona.

Messi can do more than Ronaldo on a pitch, so i expect more from him generally speakin

Mole, I know you didn't watch Spain that much or at all (I think it's somewhere in between) under JLo but what we saw under Hierro is not what JLo was doing or at least tried to do.

I didn't but I'm very skeptical of things which happen outside of tournaments, Spain didn't play that boring football they played in 2014 during the qualifiers.

It's meaningless to me.

You misspelled Rubiales. All he had to do is wait until the WC ends to fire JLO. Instead, he chose to act tough and cause Spain the tournament by firing him two days before the WC starts. What could possibly go wrong, right?

we cannot know what jlo would have done (the guy really dodged a bullet cos i didn't expect spain to win, i expected them to be knocked out in the quarters). with qualifiers and friendlies there's ample time to rectify errors, there's ample time to test depth and to use players you may end up not calling, not to mention, you play half those games at home in front of home support. we can't use qualifiers as a yard stick for the real competition when there's little room for error

like club football, qualifiers are suited for the big teams. there's ample opportunity to choose players and test out different systems that small teams do not have. the players play on the pitch, considering hierro was just an interim, i am very sure the inmates were running the asylum in this tournament

I don't know what was more boring. Watching Spain pass lateraly 90% of the time with no pace in the final third or clueless Russians defending with everything they had. I hope that Russia gets knocked out.

Still difficult to accept Spain got knocked out by Russia, but thats always been the way of the WC often, where the weaker team defends well, sneaks a goal, hope for the draw and pens. So many top teams have been knocked out like this before... too bad for Spain, they really should have done better in the WC I thought....

Ok, for the past ten years Spain has been a very good national team. But, this is the first time in history that Spain had a team that could seriously contend for a World Cup title. It isn't a stretch to imagine that the group of players that made Spain a contender would age at a certain point. Combine that with a late change in manager and a Russian team playing in a home World Cup, it is not a huge surprise.
