All English finals in both UEFA competitions a very real possibility too. Can't remember if La Liga ever manged THAT?

Twice in the last five years.

2015-16 with Sevilla as EL winners and Real Madrid as CL winners WITH Atletico as Runner-up.

Then 2017-18 with Atletico as EL winners and Real Madrid as CL winners.

Great year for EPL but La Liga undisputed juggernauts still.

From what I can tell, Valencia tend to either score a lot of goals, or none at all. They've had great performances this season, but they've also had a shit ton of stalemates. They seem to be in good form right now, and the ever annoying, Dani Parejo has been good for them lately. They're no pushovers.

Yeah but did they both play Spanish opponents in the final?

Edit: They didn't

La Liga never managed All Spanish finals in both CL and EL

I remember it was predicted we would have a Real Madrid-Barcelona final during the peak of Mourinho-Guardiola rivalry though oddly never happened.

Next final between teams of the same league was Bayern-Dortmund and none after that.

EPL is bound to have that this time and we're bound to have a climax from Open EPL supporter Firenze and the more subtle one in RG and Brexiter, Unique.

See an English team winning the UCL and most likely EL too.

Nah I mean we had TWICE Real-Atletico after Bayern-BVB, and in both cases also Sevilla won the EL.

But that's not what I'm asking. Sevilla's opponents in the EL finals were not Spanish.

However, Spurs-Liverpool in CL and Arsenal-Chelsea in EL are a real possibility that year, and that surely would be a first

No you are right I misread.

And that possibility you speak of is very realistic.

Cannot imagine the English punditry spasm if it does let alone by key members here.

Personally indifferent to English success and only focused on Liverpool.

Bundesliga is bound to have a resurgence in 2-3 years with their new concoction of emerging talents, managers and reworking countless things as they did earlier this decade (though the success of it was shorter lived than expected).

By that time RWO will magically arise from her slumber and Viva will be here far more often riding off the coat-tails of Bayern (watch what happens when they lose).

UEFA Cup had often Italian finals in '90 (4 on 9 times) It was so close even for a Parma Bologna in '99 ...

When was the last time with an English final ? I know about that Tottenham -Wolverhampton 1972 but I don't know if others
I suppose it's always been rarity, strangely

Marcelino's team has improved a lot in the 2nd half of the season so don't be surprised if they look good against your lads. I still hope (and sort of expect) Arsenal still to handle them appropriately.

The difference between Arsenal and the rest of the teams (with the passive Carlo both legs) is Emery.

He has thrice (literally) the confidence he has than he has displayed in the Premiership.

In England he is typically his reactionary self, far too quick on the trigger and clearly still adapting to the surroundings of a well-aged league in its spectrum.

In Europa League his confidence in his decisions and how he lines things up without reacting (as usual) to the slightest nuances is surreal. Not the best teams yes but correlation=/=causation.

There were quite a few Spanish EL finals in the last decade or two, even a Portuguese one

Funnily, the only all-German UEFA Cup final was also the one European trophy Eintracht ever won, 1980 vs GLadbach

The fact we're playing Valencia and have Emery in charge is a good excuse to repost this:

(Context: Sevilla had a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd leg, played like shit, went 3-0 down, but scored an away goal in the 94th minute to reach the final)

Hopefully our tie will be a lot less dramatic.

Do you fear Valencia more than Napoli? What do you expect from this tie? I mean, do you think Valencia will be a tougher opposition than Napoli?

Valencia are better equipped to hurt us than Napoli were. While I worried about Napoli's technical ability, they lacked the pace and power to really trouble us or exploit the spaces we left when our wing-backs pushed on. Our midfielders were stronger and more tenacious than theirs, and I think that made a big difference across both legs. Valencia, on the other hand, have some quicker players to use, especially Guedes, who's rediscovered his form as of late. Plus in some respects I think Rodrigo is a more intelligent forward than Insigne and can potentially draw out our gung-ho defenders (seriously, between our back five, Maitland-Niles is the only one who doesn't dive in to tackles).

I can't say I fear them, though. These days we're a bit better prepared to deal with deep counter-attacking teams like Valencia because we're more willing to concede possession and plug gaps when we have to (that's Emery's influence coming through on the team). As long as we don't fall into the trap of over-committing at the Emirates in the first leg, I think we'll be okay. The key will be our wing-backs, as always. Guedes may be a threat behind AMN but he doesn't track back very well and lacks concentration during transitions so he can be exploited. Kolasinac is much more powerful player than Soler but I worry that Valencia will overload that side with Rodrigo and Parejo to exploit his dodgy positioning and Monreal's rashness.

Besides that, I can probably trust Emery to navigate us through this, given his record in the competition.

After my initial euphoria, I believe it's the end of the line for Frankfurt in these games. Chelse might be a drawer to high up.

Hans, Frankfurt is a better team than Chelsea.

Frankfurt has the exact style that discombobulates Chelsea's more contemplate and centrally based style that is built around short-pass distributors as while Frankfurt's defence I am not too assured of when it comes to the Blues, on the break Chelsea is bound to be massacred.

This years Chelsea does not handle such teams like Hütter's very well.

Chelsea have defensive issues, though are less comical about it than Arsenal are. I imagine Frankfurt will have opportunities, provided they're positive, don't treat Chelsea with too much respect and don't freeze on the big stage.

Fully expecting Arsenal to grind their way to a 1-0 win tonight.

Sarri said Hazard is on the bench because he's played the last 10 games and change things when he comes on.

Apparently rotating with this game in mind didn't occur to him?
