Great to see a different player to Ronaldo and Messi win this finally. Modric surely deserves this considering his past few years.

Like I said before, if this had been a lifetime achievement award, this would make more sense. No one can say that he didn't deserve it, yet I don't believe his performances in the past season warranted winning this award over Varane, and arguably a few others. I do appreciate that this is an odd year in the Messi/Cristiano era, though.

Benzema was actually very much in the running for man of the match in the CL final imo... very very good. Give props when props are due. Both he and Bale had immense games.

I can't believe you haven't heard of ghost gender, DoC. Canada have passed a law where you risk getting fined if you refuse to address them as "BOO". They even have designated ghost- gender toilets in Swedish schools, and teaching kids to become more transparent has become part of their school curriculum. About time, I say. I've said it all along, that last few CL matches decide it, and it doesn't matter how you do if your team wins. WC was pretty meh as Messi was almost as good, losing only to finalists with a team that he dragged in there like no other before. Last season (whole season) Messi was twice as good than Modric. Every match should be considered, with weight on the games with same opponents, as in the league.

It's way more about the WC and the impact a player has than anything else imo. Performing well in CL and league, merely gravy in comparison to performing at the world's biggest event. And it's very hard to argue against actually, when one considers that there probably isn't a player alive, that wouldn't immediately give up every single one of their league and CL trophies, if it meant winning the WC for their country. Shows how truly irrelevant they are in comparison. He may be the best, but he wasn't when it counted and the whole world was looking.
