@breva wrote:When Gianni Agnelli bought back Juventus in 1948, Juventus was not that remarkable Genoa had won more scudetti than Juventus, 9 versus 7. , Juventus had only one more scudetto than Torino, which would have won a few more had the Grande Torino team not died at Superga in 1949. Pro-Vercelli had as many scudetti as Juventus at the time. Agnelli saw Juventus as a way to gain loyalty from the thousands of southern migrants that FIAT began employing as part of literally millions of southerners that were migrating to northern Italy. Juventus also hired a large number of southern footballers, this endeared the club to the workers who when they would return to their "paese" in the south in August, would draft their relatives that had remained in the south to be Juventus tifosi.

Thanks for the context, @breva

@Warrior wrote:So in Sicilia, not even 5% of persons root for Palermo hmm and Catania not even on the list. I would think they are more patriots than that.

Seems like the "clubs with stripes" (it has a specific word in italian Breva or Rob wrote it once) are more supported as favourite clubs than the local clubs in most regions.

The specifico Word is " strisciate "

Of course It is so.
In every city Juve/Inter/ Milan are the most supported team more than local team. I mean except for Napoli, Roma, Florence , and Bologna where local teams are clearly more supported than strisciate..

But especially in South Italy the strisciate are most popular.
It has to do with mediocre tradition of local teams, Palermo hasn't played in Serie A for long 30 years.

European Supercup '96 (2nd leg) Juve PSG was played in Palermo not by chance...

Have you ever seen Bari ? Noone went at stadium since they were back in B Laughing  Very occasional fans.
In these places it's typical to meet "double fans" , I mean who supports a " strisciata" (juve /Inter/Milan) and local team. For example in Bari, if you remember Cassano supported Inter and Bari..... For me it's ridicolous, I believe you should have just a team on your heart ( forgive me Tom (: )
It has to do with South especially, but not Just South.
I cani assure Udine is full of double fans, I know some Udinese ppl ..
Gazzetta reported that when Ronaldo scored against Udinese half stadium celebrated It but not surprised about It
Inter Juve Milan monopolize 70% of Italian fanbase but I think It is expected.

Of course Juve 2nd team in Turin is a Just anche urban Legend
I mean, It could be for 50s years but not anymore now. Whoever lives in Turin can say it

Anyway Inter was the most supported team since '68 ( there was an Italian poll at that time to say It) because of " Grande Inter " , then Juve sailed away in 70s because it began his supremacy on title coinciding with a decade of crisis by Milanese teams ( we had signed Eusebio and Beckenbauer in 1966, but FIGC closed borders to foreign players after North Korea- Italy 1-0. And we weren't able to renovate after It)
More or less, Juve fans in Italy are the sum of Inter and Milan fans together. And two Milanese teams are largely supported in Italy too, just to make the idea ...
All that, the Italian team most supported abroad is not Juve neither Inter , but AC Milan (by far )
. Berlusconi era Mad

He meant Roma as the city, not the club. It includes Lazio as a local team.

Exactly.
Anyway Lazio are the 2nd team of the Capitale , 70% of Romans support AS Roma.
Lazio is mainly supported in places near Roma (Latina, Frosinone, Rieti.. within Lazio region exactly).

Napoli does great turnover against Empoli, but it will be enough to win it.

I hate when we play at 3 PM on Saturday. It is a curse for us.
3 losses in a row and 2 were matches at home against small teams.. Fear ffs

For me it's 10, 13 then Juve at 15:30. Perfect day of calcio and i can still hang out in the evening.

It makes me think... never in my life i watched a match on Tv at night. Not even the local club which i don't really follow. Idk the experience of watching CL in a pub with friends (only World Cup & Euro during day time) Laughing

I must apologise to Ancelotti. Doubted him in the league when he joined but he has done excellent after settling down.

Fabian Ruiz is an unreal talent, also Malcuit has been amazing, I thought he would be 2nd choice RB after Hysaj but what a signing. Imagine when Ghoulam returns to starting 11 soon, that will be a scary pair of fullbacks with Malcuit and Ghoulam

As a region, the population of Sardegna (Sardinia in English) supports Calgliari over Juventus.

Sardegna
Cagliari 33,9%
Juventus 23,4 %
Inter 13,2 %
Milan 12,6 %
Torino3,8%
Roma 3,5 %
Napoli 2,7%
LAzio 2%
Altre 5,3 %

Ghoulam was a beast, hopefully he fully recovers his ability post injury.

Napoli did a job on Empoli. Mertens surpassed Careca in goals with his hat trick.

That's because the team still has internalized Sarri's mechanisms, while adding Ancelotti's likeability and coolness.

Story will look very different in a year when Sarri's game idea has been lost to a larger degree.

That might be the case but they would not be this good if they had not already assimilated so many of the positional football principles they learned from Sarri

same thing happened with Bayern, when they transitioned from Van Gaal to Heynckes.

And i would argue even Kovac now is still ripping the benefits from Pep's era. If the core of the team does not change it's not going to go away.

Ancelottis style is good to watch but its more balanced and pragmatic and its better in the longer run than sarri imo. Ancelottis 4-4-2 is more fluid and better suited for this napoli team than sarris 4-3-3

And he's actually using all players and rotating which is having a great effect, unlike sarri who was using 11 players Laughing

I’d argue that Ancelotti’s Bayern is the exception, not the rule to his career.

He’s picking up where Sarri left things at Napoli, keeping pace with a Juventus team having its best ever start and decent enough results in a tough CL group.

Not to mention he has a very good team at Napoli, they’ve been competitive for half a decade and surely the most consistent team in Italy not named Juventus.

There’s a reason why robes was so hype in the summer about Napoli signing Ancelotti, it kind of shows you the level of quality they’ve reached in this cycle.

In other news, Andrea Conti is back ffs. Happy for him. Long road

His competition would probably be Keita. Very different profile so Perisic is probably safe.

We have even won with double by Gagliardini and goal by Joao Mario
What a time to be alive

They couldn't be inserted on list because of FPF bonds, we aren't PSG or City (:
