Nainggolan isn't anywhere close to being done yet.

He just lacks the intrinsic passion for the game that many professionals.

To be amongst the best of players ranked you must have a sacrificial and almost submissive mentality that will slot you in for the consistency week-in week-out that are the demands of top flight footballers.

His mentality is clearly split on the game, and to his controversial life off the pitch.

His mentality is unquestionable when he performs as few times you see such a fearless character with the skill to boot and his performance last game was testament to that.

Yet missing out on the World Cup due to Martinez in his thinly veiled and bitter contempt in being excluded, being forced out of Roma kicking and screaming; has quite obviously demotivated a footballer who bases himself on his dynamism and presence on the pitch.

You take away that fire that has dimmed him clearly, and you will have a midfielder simply waiting for the end of the ninety minutes.

Nainggolan isn't finished yet, but he's on the decline. Physicality was always an important trait of his, but, now, he's almost 31 and, like Ross from Friends found out, the hangovers are pretty bad after you hit your late twenties.

Roma are 5th fighting Milan, Lazio and Atalanta. That's a big step down from the team that was comfortable in CL places and went to the semis.

Having Nainggolan would have surely won them enough points to not be in this situation. His mentality on the field at Roma was enough to carry the team to fight, when they looked lost, like this season.

I can be better because Zaniolo is emerging, but this season it was surely a step back when losing him.

They started well last year, then gave up when they realized that they can't compete with Juve. This year they gave up from the start and it's costing them so far. I think this emotional impact of a "finished" player is overstated, especially when they already have De Rossi.

Yes , I said it when Zaniolo hadn't still developed
Anyway they suffer at midfield this year imo, they are a team very talented but at same frail
Who saw Roma-Milan and Roma- Inter ? Similar matches, entertaining to watch but they looked like Eredivise matches.

Italy has some great youngsters for the next generation:

Zaniolo
Chiesa
Cutrone
Donarumma
Calabria
Pellegrini
Bernardeschi
Romagnoli
Bernardeschi

Not including the more young ones:

Pietro Pellegri
Tonali
Bastoni
Orsolini
Mandragora

Coupled with some veterans:

Verratti
Insigne
Florenzi
Bonaventura
Jorginho

They look set to be a next superpower, WC 2022? @Robes

De Rossi was injured for half the season so far and Dzeko ghosted 2018. NZonzi is a scrub, they lacked a leader and experience. All their players are talented but the problem is you get an average midfield/attack age that's like 21yo. They can turn it up and just as easily lose ground.

@Kaladin

Its leaps and bounds better than the generation that culminated in Parolo, Giaccherini, Eder and Pelle going forward. Problem is can't be a power house until the goals get figured out. With Mancini there is domination in every game but no goals.

You are missing your main man Barella who already starts, and we wait hopefully for Conti and Caldara.

Yes I am following Bastoni because he is Inter player on loan in Parma and he is playing good.   Even though he is 19 years. Modern defender, good to play ball too

They were that good even in the games that De Rossi played this year. They coasted last year too. Nzonzi is not a scrub, the scrub is EDF and his defenses. Also, the last thing those 20 year olds needed was to be around a 30 year old who likes to party. Even if it was a loss in the short term, it was a gain in the long term.

Anyway Donnarumma is back on high levels after the flop last year.
But I believe this is his best season , better than first season under Sinisa. First season was hyped , but he still had to developed. He is matured this year. Probably last season - negative - was useful for his development.
Been best Serie A GK this year and he kept afloat Milan during their most difficult period of the season .. Frosimone, Spal ...
I envy who has a GK who can do this, not used to it since Julio Cesar era.

Inter needs a keeper this summer desperately, Handanovic is on the wrong side of 30 already.

I will repeat what I have 3 times in a month. Handanovic remains stoic in his approach to saves to make them look as if they cannot be saved.

Unironically the most annoying habit of a goalkeeper and even above suicidal runs away from his post.

I will not even begin on Mignolet let alone FUCKING Karius whom fans to this day expect me to cry with him after handing over the cup to Real Madrid.

Inter have a record of historic goalkeepers that gives confidence to their spine, Handanovic with his current performances and his age is not that man.

No my friend I know just finding a reason to slate in public two goalkeepers I really cannot stand.

Nah he was great at Roma.

He played good yesterday, our MOTM but I can't deceive myself. I've said he was finished just yesterday

Anyway the reason is simple : his life outside football has never been professional and he did a serious autocriticism yesterday after match ( unexpected tbh )

MOTM also today tbh
