Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was a brand new game and a brand new concept, that paved the way for multiple sequels, spin-offs and other companies attempting to replicate the success Activision had with that franchise. 95 is definitely over the top, but I don't think that game was a typical representation of reviews back then.

8/10 historically has been considered "great" btw, that's the traditional scale.

When i was younger i used to get an N64 magazine every month and if it got more than 80/100 and i was interested in the game i'd ask my dad for it for Christmas and Birthday. Laughing

Obviously now i decide long before reviews are out if i want a game or not but historically i was always understood 80 or above to be great.

I only read reviews after I've finished the game, just to see what others thought. Otherwise, I don't care about them. They certainly don't inform my buying decisions.

Thing is, unless your opinions and tastes match up with the reviewer, then how much use is the review?

Btw, Tony Hawk Pro Skater is one the best games ever and I won't hear a word against it.

I know what killed it for RG as being a completionist saps your soul for gaming and did the same for me especially when it isn't a remarkable game as I too suffer from similar compulsive tendencies. Ruins the magic in some virtual as such.

Most games I've told RG to play except Red Dead he's liked so i can't question his taste tbh.

If i did it would reflect poorly on my personal taste which honestly is not something I'm willing to criticise as I'm perfect imo.

What taste? He was young man with a bright future ahead of him, who played the likes of The Witcher 3 and The Last of Us. Then, one day, he started locking himself up in the attic and pouring salt in front of the doors and windows. Now, he's a malnourished goblin who exlusively plays Dark Souls- likes. Ask him for more gaming recommendations. He'll say Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, NioH... Laughing

His taste in JRPGs and Japan overall is what binds me to his gaming mind.

He hasn't played a JRPG since Hiroshima was bombed, though.

I keep telling him to play Persona 5. Critically acclaimed, one of the most stylish games I've ever played, and one of the best JRPGs of this decade. He even owns the game. But no.. he'd rather pick up some Souls-like he played a year or two ago Rolling Eyes

Persona I heard is avg 100+hours for a gamer and completionists like him and I would find that a nightmare no matter how good it is.

Souls I want to begin again because I miss a game where progressing is actually rewarding without all the hands that are held out for you to go through and NO I do not want an 80s style retro game (an excuse to not put effort into graphics) as a challenge.

Souls series is timeless.

Witcher 3 can be 300+ hours I'd erase my memory and do it all over again, expansions included.

The Witcher 3 felt longer, but that's probably because I spent a lot of time doing things that didn't progress the story. Persona 5 has more of an addictive quality to it, which made it feel as if time ran faster when I was playing it.

I must say this though, i know you're mostly joking but there comes a point where it just gets annoying.

If RG isn't playing it after you're 5th or 6th time you bother him about it what makes you think he'll do it now lol.

IMO you should give it another go after you're done with Sekiro. I remember you finishing the two Metros, Dishonored and Dishonored 2 after Nioh. Soulsborne game tend to get you in the gaming groove hmm
