Provinciale Prophecy Empty Provinciale Prophecy

Provinciale Prophecy Auto_polizia_provinciale

Only you Patriotic Serie A fans will know these moments.

Need merely a draw to go through? Add a 5 man back line.

Need other team to win for you? Other team wins, you lose versus team already out of the group before hand.

Need a fearless display to coast through points on hand? End up with a gutless shaky display that only wakes you up in the final minutes.

Post your favourite examples of Provinciale Prognosis within Serie A teams and countless examples do we have from Napoli pretty much every year, Roma, Inter, Milan etc.

The affliction that will never end.

2002, all Roma had to do was not fuck up. That's it. 3 point lead over Pool in the 2nd group phase and away to Anfield on the final day. A draw would be fine and they very much had the squad to accomplish said draw.

Lost 2-0 and subsequently got KO'd.

Actually think the center of the provinciale mindset sits at the league itself, not the clubs.
Extra pre-poning Inter-Juve be played on Friday so their precious Serie A teams can rest another day vs the mighty CL opposition of PSV and Young Boys Laughing

That's the stuff that betrays a loser's mentality, and is sure to backfire.

Wait, that was the reason the derby was played on a Friday and Inter STILL fucked up?! Yikes

Fantastic example by Clutch. More a result of the arrogance shown by the Rossoneri players going in at half-time paired with Gerrard's legendary leadership.

And Hans you have picked another superlative for it. Quality or propensity for a team will never directly correlate to their Mentality and a loser mentality is something all these Italian teams have.

So indeed it is a loser mentality.

The problem is more deep seeded and comes from things ranging from the fall from grace of the league, the very mentality of fans which rub off on the players to the crop of managers that just will not go away.

Why do people talk about things that they don't know?

Juve Inter was NOT pre-poning on Friday because of Champions League.
It Is because Serie A has Friday match since this season.

Otherwise, Napoli also 'd have played on Friday.

But they have played on Saturday - even tough their CL match was much stronger on paper .

I'm sorry, but this is a dumb example. There's nothing wrong with allowing teams to get an extra day of rest. In fact, I don't know why they didn't give Napoli one too, they needed it more since they were traveling and playing a very physical team.

I didn't grow up watching CL (wasn't available to me) but once it was the first game I ever saw was Man U destroying Roma 7-1. I think it was a knockout stage tie too. It wasn't even a group match Laughing

Yes that's more like it

Still i find this idea of a friday match bull shit, it's not serious. Especially the Derby d'Italia ffs, can't believe it didn't click in some FIGC minds that on friday people have other concerns/hobbies than football while there is plenty of time in the week-end.

Some complete days of football on saturdays/sundays is much more suitable.

just remembered that Milan won 2-0 at PSV in the semis but lost 3-1 and scored on a late goal to go through at home. You'd think that'd be a wakeup call but instead bottled it even worse in the final Laughing

Last season Napoli beat Juventus in Torino, celebrated like they won the scudetto and then lost the following match 3-0 to Fiorentina. Subsequently, lost the scudetto and spent the remaining games complaining about the Inter-Juve 2-3 game.

Also Napoli benching players away to City in the group last season was monumental

Chelsea 4-1 Napoli, winning goal in overtime by who else than Ivanovic. It was the Cavani-Lavezzi-Hamsik era, back then they were not contenders for trophies except Coppa Italia.

Does it count ?

The day the players who suffered that 7-1 can explain completely why they imploded so spectacularly is a day I will never live to see. That loss was as I explicable as the one Brazil suffered against Germany a few years ago.

We are a club with the resources of a 2nd tier club, but the playing mentality of a provincial one. This thread is timely.

Bundesliga also has a match on Friday. And guess what, it's never the top match. You won't see Bayern-BVB on Friday night.
Neither has it ever been the top match in Serie A, as I recall.
Friday evening games are Stuttgart vs Augsburg or Frosinone vs Cagliari

I'm sure I'm right and giving Inter-Juve an extra day rest for CL played a role.
Napoli couldn't be also played on Friday as there's only one Friday match, duh

Prime example and grandest example of Napoli's Provinciale Implosion.

From North to South, Calcio must rid itself of this disease or they for years will be choking harder than a virgin with no gag reflex.

Where to begin? From the ground up.

I'd like to submit our 7-1 loss to Bayern. That was during the delirium of the good form we were in under Rudi and we went into that game thinking we could go toe to toe with them after playing (but still losing) decently at the Allianz. A massacre.

So the CL tables counts goal difference or h2h? Really amazing if its really down to the goals scored to determine Inter and Napoli out.... I thought Roma and Juve performances meant the Italian teams got rid of it, but I guess its club by club Razz

Also cant believe Atletico gave up their top score by only managing a draw?

I don't think provinciale is proper term but if I've read the Milan bottle job in 2005, and clearly that was not a provinciale club ... So I add What about Inter - Schalke 2-5 when you were the Champions League winner, you 've just got the easiest opponent to reach semi-final and you get knocked out in this way

Still I hate Leonardo for it

Napoli is often a good example of provinciale prophecy.
Just thinking they twitter manager celebrated the club because "they were the only one unbeaten in CL", or have been on advantage at Bernabeu is something of historical.

i add last year, when they get knocked out against RB Leipzig, quietly for no apparent reason, and they could win that cup.
