Next Manchester United manager?

Post by Firenze on Tue Dec 18, 2018 10:45 am

After the caretaker that's going to come in, of course. Who do you see as the next fool that has to squeeze some quality from numpties like Lingard, Pogba (?) and Lolkaku?

after years of Mouball, I really don't want someone like Conte, Simeone or even Poch coming in, as good as they may be

also absolutely stay away from the British candidates

I have no idea who I would want to take over ideally, I just know better days are ahead

Wenger would be an unreal twist and one I'd embrace despite him being finished, just for it being an incredible turn of events

I don't think he would ever do that to Arsenal fans though

I can honestly see it being Blanc

In all seriousness, Leonardo Jardim is probably the best option Man Utd can get unless something interesting happens until next summer. His coaching can be attacking as he has proven when he had great attacking players in his team.

Poch or Jardim for me. Wouldnt mind Eddie Howe too tbh. If big players like Jogba has a problem playing under someone like Howe, they can go, seriously.

Personally feel they should go for Sam Allardyce or Neil Warnock or Tony Mowbray or Paul Lambert

Don't see the need for this thread tbh scratch

We already have a thread for the next Utd manager:

Why would Zidane come to us unless he wants to deliberately f up his almost flawless CV?
We need a rebuilding yet again (sigh) and will take a lot of time. Doubt ZZ will be interested in that.

Heard the club is looking to appoint a DoF first. So, this is going to be a long term process.

Exactly, I'd be pretty surprised if it ended up being Zidane, he will go for a sure thing like Pep did post Barca

I wouldn't be against it though purely because I want to keep Martial and hopefully he could motivate Pogba

Zidane would be risky again too, we can't afford to take a gamble this time, we need a coach that's proven as a winner

we need Rodgers

I expect Laurent Blanc , low profile after "holy men" as Van Gaal and Mourinho  but palmares and experience ( but not a dinosaur) also as Manchester United player
Moreover he Is French, such as Martial and Pogba.

Carrick will REJUVENATE them no doubt.

He is nailed on to PROPEL them into the top four and pithily dispatch Paris Sportswashing Germans.

That was why you got Mourinho though, wasn't it? He was a "winner".

United still have Ed Woodward issue to deal with. He's going to oversee this interim appointment and the next permanent appointment, despite having a shoddy track record. I'm not convinced he can be trusted with something so important.

I think United should find someone who wants to build something more mid-term. The Mourinho appointment was too short-sighted; like you already had a title-worthy squad that just needed a bit of tuning rather than the squad that needed some direction and improvement it actually was.

How realistic would Wenger be? Because while it may not be in hindsight, i don’t think Arsene would turn it down

Re: Next Manchester United manager?

Maybe. But there were questions around Mou at the time also, and questions that IMO proved to be right as time went on. He seemed broken by that last Chelsea stint tbh, always seemed miserable and depressed here from day 1. I don't even think he's good for a season or two now. Just looked out of his depth at United despite having nigh unlimited resources until this summer.

Honestly, I have no idea what we need. After years of relative mediocrity(Treble of sadness convinced nobody, and you pointed out how we overachieved finishing second last year, we simply weren't impressive at all), I don't want to see a rebuilding phase, but I feel like that's where we're at. We have some good players and we also have so much crap in the squad that we grossly overpaid for who simply aren't good enough.

I'd be fine taking a manager with potential (not Eddie fucking Howe, Hans). I just want to see a different approach. I can finally understand the feelings Arsenal fans had when Wenger stepped down and the future was full of potential. And yeah, I get that I only had to put up with it for a couple seasons, but it feels so liberating.

Who should be the interim manager? That's most important now. If they don't get that right, they might be sucked into mid-table struggle and end up searching for another interim manager.

bring back Van Gaal IMO

he probably wouldn't though

I feel like Blanc may actually take an interim role

if it works out he could takeover permanently in summer

From what I read, the plan seems to be, appoint a caretaker, then install a DoF until summer and only then appoint the next permanent manager next summer.
Which of course almost makes too much sense to be true.

So there's 2 questions, really. Who will take over as caretaker, and who will take over as permanent new manager.

Re: Next Manchester United manager?

As for the answers to these two questions:

1. Surely no half-big name with self esteem would accept a caretaker role without any guarantees, midseason to the end of the season. Least of all someone with an existing job.

From the ones without a job, Conte, no way, Jardim who seems to be what RedCafé is expecting, I don't think so, Zidane, no way.
If Utd want one of those, surely they'll come as new permanent managers, even if arguably Jardim might just as well give it a shot before taking over some fucing Saudi club.

Any of the British good old boys, Fat Sam etc, Utd can't do that to their fans, it should probably be some decent U19 or U23 coach.

2. No idea what direction the club will go. Surely Ed would fancy a star name like Zidane, but a DoF might envision a different direction.
If I was them, I'd go full British and install Paul Mitchell from RB Leipzig as DoF and get Eddie Howe as manager, and sell it as a long term project. That would be the most positive and promising development the club could hope for.

But thankfully, I doubt the club will dare to do that.
