Great game by Barca, can't believe it ended only 1-0. A festival of missed chances.

Not sure about the dangerous play rule inside the box. You are obviously going to have a go at the ball if it's in the air. Is Ramos not supposed to try and shoot in case someone's head comes in the way?

You won't get that given in the PL tbh

When I humbly pointed out that his penalty taking ability is relatively unreliable, 2 season ago, Barca fans on here dug up statistics to, not only attempt to prove I was wrong, but to try and prove the contrary hmm

Because he's at least as good as Penaldo at them, slightly worse conversion ratio, but better on high pressure penos. And I don't see anyone calling Penaldo out every time he misses. Like today, he scored the important one, and the miss had no effect on the result, just on the conversion ratio.

7 points. banana

Well, I don’t personally care about the Messi vs C. Ronaldo debate, but I seem to feel a tad bit nervous whenever I watch Messi about to take penalties, and I’m a friggin Real Madrid fan. Clearly, it’s not a matter of ability, but likely some mental block in Messi’s case.

Well can't say I don't feel nervous, but that's probably because I hate the undeserved backlash coming everytime missing a peno. The high pressure peno yesterday was one of his best, even when goalie guessed correct and almost reached the post he wasn't fast enough.

Yeah, that penalty was great. Generally speaking, though, I tend to get a bit nervous on his behalf whenever he takes penalties. I haven’t watched all of Barca’s matches in recent years, but I’ve watched him miss quite a lot of penalties when I have, so it might just be that I’ve watched a limited sample size where he happened to miss them.

just saw the highlights

LOL

A couple of questions

1) why the hell wasn't Ramos sent off straight for the parrying that shot with his arm?! Laughing

2) So by the looks of it, Courtois is having shocker after shocker since joining, has he really been that bad?

He has had some good games and others not so good. I wouldn't call him elite by any stretch and he certainly hasn't done anything even remotely convincing to justify Navas' benching, but he's not Madrid's main source of woes if you ask me.

Him and Navas are pretty close in terms of skills, although the Belgian doesn't have the Costa rican's big game moments.

But like I said, the goalkeeping position is one of the last positions we need to worry about because we have more urgent matters to tend to this summer (if the club wants to improve that is).

Courtois has slotted in PERFECTLY as a scapegoat for our under-performing seniors. But fret not, they’re all 4-5 good performances away from being handed the GL seal of approval, which traditionally gets revoked as soon as they perform poorly again. We probably have more senior players than any other serious title contender in the big four leagues in Europe, but that’s a debatable disadvantage according to our almighty Real Madrid section. So, what’s the source of our recent woes? Swine flu, I say!

The only thing that consistently bothers me about Courtois, is how prone he is to conceding goals through his legs. No goalkeeper should have such a blatant weakness. I'm even more surprised by how little opposing players have attempted to exploit that. That said, like DoC pointed out, I really don't think he's one of our primary concerns. Also, I don't know if anyone else have noticed, but I think Navas has stepped up his game this season. The upgrade in competition might have benefitted him.

For a very tall keeper, Courtois really doesn't get off his line to command the box imo. He sticks very very very close to his goal line.

He hasn't been horrible. He hasn't been very good either. Navas is better imo. Never understood the need to sign a new keeper.

LITERALLY any other signing would've been better for the team. Laughing GK was the least of Madrid's worries last year.

Navas Proud

I was shocked to see Machin drop his back three and play a back four today. Maybe he's learning at last.
