They were heading outside the top 10 when he arrived. I have no clue what the rest of your post is about. "U would be stuck with him", I assume is an indication of how poorly you view his coaching ability, "and it gets even worse.." that's your prediction for how they might fare with him at the helm, I suppose? Razz "I wouldnt mind that at all Very Happy" I'm guessing you're not much of a fan of Man United?

Hans: What kind of football are you referring to? So far this season, he's adapted his tactics to each opposition team's manager. They've played with different formations and strategies. It stopped working when certain players decided to stop trying. I assume that was his short-term solution, since building the foundation for a more established playing style takes time. The "we should never be out-worked by anyone" proved true at the start, but now they're actually getting "out-worked" by everyone, and covered 8km less against humble, Everton in their last match.

As much as I may have some degree of bias towards Solskjaer, I think people on here have a comically persistent ability to read about a player or coach and "fill in the blanks" in regard to what those individual's thoughts, intentions and capabilities are based on little to no conclusive evidence. Since when did you lot who don't support Man United start watching Man United, anyway? hmm

Liverpool now 20 points ahead of the 3rd place team

Pep and Klopp dominating this league at will

how is this different from Bundesliga again?

Part of being the BEST IN THE WORLD is understanding that weaknesses of people lesser than you.

But instead of being dismissive of them we must nurture them so one day they too might be the BEST IN THE WORLD.

Huge goal for Spurs. A draw there and the next three games would have been must wins.

The next three games still ought to be wins or there can be trouble, but I can't see both Arsenal and Chelsea winning out the season. Even if they do, Spurs can actually afford to lose a game and unless there is a wild swing in GD, get in above Chelsea.

Spurs have had a lot of late goals this year. There is some luck there, but also some resilience. I have to give credit to Spurs, they have had their backs up against the wall a lot this season, light squad, new stadium debacle, fans restless at Wembley, injuries galore, and yet they've often found ways to get it done. In CL and league, although they could have avoided this mess by not losing like 4 games in a 6 game stretch

I've always hated Man U, since my early days as a Liverpool fan Razz They are such a big club though, so like other big clubs, I guess many would still be interested in watching them for whatever reasons.

Solskjear I guess we will have to wait and see next season how he fares and what he is really made of. Man U have been very patient with their managers and dont fire them if things dont go well Real Madrid style, so unless disaster happens, I guess he will be given quite some time and support to prove himself.

I don't think Real Madrid have ever been patient with their managers, we're more like a manager graveyard, but I suppose post-Ferguson Man United have been quite patient. They've always been patient with their players as well, although it's become increasingly apparent that their best ones are mercenaries. I suppose you have no other choice but to be patient when you spend the collective budget of 10 smaller clubs on a few players who see the club as a stepping stone to something else.

Post by futbol on Wed Apr 24, 2019 12:26 pm

Man United's problem is that they are not as big as they think they are. They view themselves as the biggest club in the world. Their fans, judging by Redcafe, are actually obsessed with this idea.

They are only competitive from a commercial viewpoint though and that's mostly down to being a Premier League club.

In any other area but commercial deals, they can't compete at all. They can't get near the "obvious" top talents like Neymar, Mbappe, De Ligt etc. So when that's out of the window they can only do 2 things: Scout very well or promote talent from within. The latter is almost exclusively down to luck. How many times do top teams promote even 1 world class player from within, let alone 2 or more at the same time to build a team around? Very very rarely.

So what's left is scouting well. And that's something United seem to be horrible at. Do they even have scouting at all? In recent years they just went for past it big names like Ibra, Di Maria, Sanchez, Schweinsteiger, Falcao etc.

And then there is the problem that players who become too good won't stay with them and want to make a step up. Which brings us back to the initial point: Not as big as they think they are.

I don't see them back on the top for a long time. They literally have 9 starting players who are mediocre + Pogba + De Gea who want both out + a rookie manager whose experience is managing Cardiff during relegation and some Danish club.

Mourinho was right when he said finishing 2nd with United was one of his biggest achievements.
