Here's how I would line up next season if we get nobody else in
still think we'll sell Lukaku, maybe to Inter and get in someone naff like Longstaff though
and yes Sanchez is pretty gash but better than starting Daniel James or Fred
Rashford
Martial Sanchez Lingard
Pogba Mctominay
Shaw Maguire Lindelof Bissaka
DDG

Any of you guys got a subscription to The Athletic? They've launched their football section and it's all interesting stuff, including behind the scenes info on transfers. There's a free trial if you wanna just read what's there and back out.
I won't paste the article here, because it's unethical and all, but there's a piece on there about how Ed Woodward was quoted £80m for Maguire in May, waited to see if the fee would go down... and then paid £80m for Maguire in August. All that time wasted only to end up paying what Leicester wanted.

I've had it for over a year due to NBA stuff, if their football stuff is half as good then it's worth every penny.

Nah. It's not the quality, it's the topic. Like how could a football article be anything but worthless junk?

Re: 2019/2020 Premier League Discussion: Prologue
Well we don't know, but the Athletic standard for quality is much higher than what you usually see.
All I'm saying is if that standard is half as high as it is for other sports then it's worth it.

To me this sounds like craft beer
trying to turn something fancy that isn't meant to be fancy, and the product doesn't taste better either
Also absolutely hate the name
would trial subscribe if the name wasn't so off putting
"The Athletic"
The Athletic what?!

Of course they're trying to make money lol.
If a writer releases extensive articles on a subject which took actual work they should be paid for it.
I really don't understand this attitude, it's not how the world works.

Re: 2019/2020 Premier League Discussion: Prologue
It's sub based so it doesn't have to rely on ads.
That's better for journalism because ad revenue is dependent on clicks, which drives shallower but more "attention grabbing" content.
You won't get subs with clickbait. You sub on the idea that what you're getting is higher quality than the average stuff, and from what I've read so far, it's not a bad deal. Pretty much any half-decent journalism these days is behind a paywall because the best publications don't want to be associated with clickbait nonsense.
They have UK based writers for football. They've been aggressively bringing people in, like Amy Lawrence, David Ornstein, Michael Cox, James Pearce, even Honigstein for German coverage.

Did you read the Sam Lee and Michael Cox article on City's defence Jay?

It's not a should really. It needn't be.
Anyway, I don't care for how and why they do it and go about it overall as much as what I gain out of it at the end.
What are they so specially writing on that I can't see for myself on the pitch or learn over the internet over time.
Their work is going to be quoted and paraphrased by many other writers anyway.

Yeah, just read it. Shows that Pep is a far more adaptable coach than he's usually given credit for.
Also shows that it's not something that can be replicated throughout the league, because finding players who are creative yet also super hard-working is tough. Even Liverpool's midfield is more industrious than creative.
It's funny, when you think about it. Pep's teams sparked this movement towards more attacking set-ups, more emphasis on possession and creativity etc, but at the moment the successful teams are the ones with the hardest workers and best defences.

Right.....
Just like how Musicians should have their music downloaded for free etc etc.
People have got free stuff illegally for so long they've lost all concept of reality. If any professional works hard on something that people use they should be paid for it.
You'll likely realize this one day if you ever make something which people use and exploit it without compensating you.
