Btw Nish I think it'll be appropriate if you change the thread title to COC

I hope we take this seriously. Winning cups is always fun and we need a little morale booster

i think this season there is no excuse at all, we must fight for everything including cups. Not only that gives us something named as trophy but also ensures that we are in europe

Re: Capital one cup 2013-2014 thread.
Depth in midfield is a little worrying when fielding an under-strength team in some of these cup games. Meaning that both Gerrard and Lucas are likely to be rested - and should be - leaving just Henderson and Allen as recognised CMs.
We've got enough forwards and I've got faith in Kelly and Wisdom in defence, but look a little light in midfield, imo.

I don't believe in resting the first team for these cup matches. Kenny understood that and started the strongest team possible every round and we made two finals winning 1. Especially since we have no Europe to worry about.

Re: Capital one cup 2013-2014 thread.
Loose the 2013-14 from the thread title. It started last year.
I want to win the Cups but don't think we need to field our first XI in every round. The likes of Borini, Rahim, Kelly should be good enough for teams like Notts.

We should rotate reasonably, both to save legs and not to ruin the moral of fringe players / youngsters if we're fielding the same players in every game.McAgger wrote:I don't believe in resting the first team for these cup matches. Re: Capital one cup 2013-2014 thread.
I'm completely against rotating the whole team every time there is a cup match. You never want to throw in 11 fringe players at the same time or else we'll be losing to teams like Oldham every time. Sure it's fine changing 5/6 players with a good first team core in it but never the whole team. Which is what I'm trying to say. Obviously against Notts we won't be throwing out strongest line up, however it could still be risky playing all fringe players.@Art Morte wrote:We should rotate reasonably, both to save legs and not to ruin the moral of fringe players / youngsters if we're fielding the same players in every game.McAgger wrote:I don't believe in resting the first team for these cup matches. Re: Capital one cup 2013-2014 thread.
Yeah, that's cool.
The players I really want to see get a rest against lower league opposition cup games are Gerrard, Lucas, Agger, Johnson and Enrique if we don't sign a left-back. Because they are so important to us and aren't the youngest any more. The rest should be fine fatigue wise and/or be able to rotate in the league, too.

this+ we must use the young talent we have like Ibe and Sterling. i would certainly like to see the trio of Allen, hendo and Alberto in some of the cup matches.@Art Morte wrote:Yeah, that's cool.

Second round? Aren't we supposed to go in from the third?

Only teams with Europe go in during the third round. Old habits die hard, but sadly we are not in Europe and must enter the competition one round early. Last time we did that we won the whole thing. Kennysomething-red wrote:Second round? Aren't we supposed to go in from the third?

Re: Capital one cup 2013-2014 thread.
That sucks.
The objective at the end of the season is getting a top four spot, of course. I have no doubt we'll go all out for the domestic cups to get some silverware in.

Re: Capital one cup 2013-2014 thread.
Man let's just hope we get an easy run out. Wouldn't mind a midtable PL team. Teams from lower divisions tend to be overly aggressive and cause way too many injuries.

I actually think that's fine news. Either get knocked out early or eliminate the Mancs. I''m not complaining, bring it on.McAgger wrote:OH f*ck me we're facing Man Utd

Re: Capital one cup 2013-2014 thread.
I just realized that's Suarez's first game back
This game is right before Sunderland where his return was going to be if we didn't make it through last night. But he's returning against the Mancs
And I don't know if you remember but when Suarez came back from his racism ban, his first game was United away as well where he scored a goal.
