Lucas tore his ACL.

He's done for the season for me, even f he recovers, no way I play him. You have to be cautious with this stuff.

Last year Canales came back from a ACL tear near the end of the season and immediately tore it again.

We're covered on the flanks no need to risk it.

Very very bad for Kelly if he's out for the season. I think he is still waiting for that one season where he defines what calibre of a footballer he is. If he will miss this season (almost) completely Im going to have to tone down my expectations of him Sad

EDIT. It's been confirmed by the BBC that it's going to be at least six months. This is... *bleep*

This was probably the worst news I was dreading when I went to sleep last night Sad Kelly has looked like he finally broke into the team and now this, I hope he can take on this mentally because that's the most important thing.

I'm very glad that it doesn't seem serious for Agger and Borini. Hopefuly they can confirm this after the MRI's.

Time for Young Flanagan and Jack Robbo to shine I guess.

Assaidi is back from ACON. He was training with the team at Melwood today.

I personally don't think Assaidi's game time for the rest of the season will exceed 1 hour.

coutinho coming in plus we are out of even FA cup. So only EPL and europa league to play...to get more game time he has to do something extra-ordinary whenever he gets a chance.

The only game i see Assaidi getting game time in, is Zenit away in Russia. After that it would depend on our longevity in the EL.

Is it me or are we a bit too over-stacked in midfield but in a not balanced manner?

I think Defensive AND Physical re-infourcements should be the plan for the summer.

Carra seems certain to retire, and BR doesn't seem to rate Coates much. Neither Skrtel or Agger have hit their last season's form, so I am certain we'll but 1-2 CBs this summer that all can challenge for 1st pot.

Assaidi and Downing will probably leave, maybe Reina too if Barca come calling.

PRIORITIES for summer (I know too early, we should see how Coutinho n Sturridge do for rest of seas):

CB x 2

B2B CM (Momo Sissoko type)

Those are the type of signings we need, to beat the Stokes and OldHam's of this world IMO.

if Reina leaves, the first 2 names to replace him should be Begovic and Ter Stegen

If Reina does leave I hope we consider Bernd Leno. Hyypia wouldn't mind him moving to us, I'm sure.

Rodgers DOES rate Coates and has said so at least once. He simply rates him as a prospect atm rather than a regular... which is why he wanted to loan him out for experience.

whether downing should leave or not, should depend upon how others perform. Because although we replace downing, we never know how the new replacement will perform, because the new players may take some time to settle down. In case if we qualify for chamions league, downing will surely help to reduce burden by playing in games against small teams as he is performing enough good to start games against small teams. But it depends upon how others perform. If we feel that we dont need him anymore, he can leave.
Bernd leno is a brilliant GK, youngest german GK to start playing in champ league. At 20 he has got a lot of exp but the only thing is too too young, but he will be surely a good signing at low price.

One CB signing should be enough, in my opinion Skrtel and Agger have been just fine and I wouldn't drop either.

About Assaidi still, he didn't look bad at all when he got some games earlier in the season, no? I think he definitely deserves at least a few substitute appearances in the next couple of months.

We should consider buying a young GK who can replace Reina. Reina hasn't been more than OK in last two seasons and Jones is purely back-up material.

CB isn't a great concern. Even if Coats or the kid now playing RB don't step-up, Kelly can be considered as the third CB.

Assaidi deservs some game time. He got pace and decent (better than Rahim, IMO) delivery. The few games he got, he was as good as Suso or Shelvey.

A back-up LB is important. The fact that a CB is playing RB (with Glen playing LB) in absence of Enrique, says a lot about Robinson.

That makes:
Suarez
Skrtel
Agger
Shelvey
Sterling
Suso
Kelly
Wisdom
Jones

who have all extended under Rodgers

We know that
Borini
Allen
Coutinho
Sturridge
Assaidi

have all signed long term contracts upon their arrivals.

We know Carra is retiring Sad

We know
Henderson
Downing
Carroll???
Enrique
Coates

barely signed last season on pretty lengthy contracts.

That leaves
Johnson
Lucas
Reina

who all have another 2+ years on theirs

GERRARD is the only one left that's expiring in 2014. Get to work Ayre ffs.

I hope we don't rush him if it's serious. Give Borini the start. Or Coutinho.

Really? scratch

IMO, it's far more likely that we will see a Sterling-Suarez-Downing front three if Sturridge can't go. Coutinho should only get a sub appearance, at most.

I would actually be fairly surprised if Sturridge didn't make it. He was able to complete the 90 mins against City, and seemed to be moving freely and having a laugh with Hodgson when he reported to the England squad. To me, this sounds like classic international duty avoidance posturing. I do think he took a knock against City, but I'd wager a guess that if it was an LFC match or a competitive England game, he would have played.

Most importantly, he and Coutinho are the two players that don't have to worry about the Thursday match, as they are ineligible. For me, this makes Sturridge all the more necessary against West Brom. He has almost the full week to recover before Swansea.
----------
In other news, I'm really pleased Kelly signed a new deal. I really want to see him train/play as a CB in the near future. He seems to have many of the necessary qualities to be a good CB, and he has the pace and composure on the ball to play the ball out from the back. Perhaps one of the several CBs we all agree that we need to acquire is already in our squad.
