Neuer hunting the BL record Empty Neuer hunting the BL record

Post by rwo power Sun Oct 02, 2011 11:11 am

Manuel Neuer managed to keep a clean sheet in the BL for 770 minutes (1147 minutes in all competitive matches with DFB Cup and CL). This puts him on 3th place in the all-time BL clean sheet ranking:

1. Timo Hildebrand, VfB Stuttgart, 884 Minuten, Saison 2002/03, 2003/04
2. Oliver Kahn, Bayern München, 802, 2002/03
3. Manuel Neuer, Bayern München, 770, 2011/12
4. Oliver Kahn, Bayern München, 736, 1998/99
5. Frank Rost, Schalke 04, 647, 2003/04
6. Oliver Reck, Werder Bremen, 641, 1987/88
7. Tim Wiese, Werder Bremen, 619, 2009/10
8. Uli Stein, Hamburger SV, 603, 1985/86
9. Jens Lehmann, Schalke 04, 601, 1996/97

In all club competitions he is Nr.4 now:

1. Edwin van der Sar ... 1311 minutes
2. Abel Resino Gomez ... 1275 minutes
3. Vitor Baia ... 1191 minutes
4. Manuel Neuer ... 1147 minutes
5. Petr Cech ... 1025 minutes

BTW, in all competitive matches for Bayern Manuel Neuer broke Oliver Kahn's record of 1012 minutes in his very first season. He needs to work on the BL numbers still, though. ^^

I think winning is more important than just keeping zero.

Good ol' Huub Stevens once said "Die Null muss stehen" ("the Zero has to stand") - considering the defensive disaster of last season, this is a welcome improvement. And one draw after all these consecutive wins is still a fine streak.

I didn't know he was so close to the record. Damn, gonna have to beat the mighty Kahn twice.

Ah, Hildebrand. Such a talent once upon a time.

So he'll beat Cech with like 90% certainty. Baia should be doable, after that, it'll get tough as hell - but all-around doable.

So 4 more clean sheets to keep to beat VDS.

Bayern - Berlin
Napoli - Bayern
Hannover - Bayern
Bayern - Igonlstadt
Bayern - Nurnberg

Tough, but doable. :coffee:

Napoli-Bayern will be the ultimate test, I think. If the zero stands there, then only the sky is the limit. Smile

City was the ultimate test, Napoli will be tough as hell, but IMHO their attack isn't as good as Citys.
And the other matches.. Maybe Hannover will catch them on the counter, nut Berlin, Nuremberg and Ingolstadt... Probably not.

Sure, you can always get too complacent and get one in, but Bayern have been solid so far.

I hope he breaks the record but will never happen if Jup's keeps playing Van Buyten and Badstuber together.

Rafinha-Boateng-Badstuber-Lahm

Might just do it.

That's pretty much our best defense, but I can understand Jupp wanting to rotate since Boateng came from a long term injury and it's nice having everyone match fit.

Any news on Breno, German speakers?

Well, if Neuer keeps the clean sheet with Van Buyten defending, then he can be doubly proud of it. Very Happy

About Breno - no news yet. Looks like they manage to keep the press quiet on it, which is actually a good thing for a change.

Maybe not individually but as a attacking unit Napoli's attack is much more lethal and dangerous......

Especially as they are not interested to try and dominate Bayern they will sit back and counter attack with fericious pace, great technical ability and lethal finishing of Edinson Cavani......

I personally feel Bayern will struggle more against Napoli than they did against City still think it will be a Bayern win mind.

Great point Mole.I couldnt have said it better. Very Happy

Not to forget the incredible chemistry they've developed playing together since the past season.Something which was clearly lacking in City's attackers.

This attack would prove a handful against any top team in the world in my opinion.Really cant wait for this one. Very Happy

Well, I have the distinct feeling that Bayern and Napoli will survive the groups while ManCity will have to deal with the EL...

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Napoli - Bayern, too! And I really would love to see SuperManu excel against the Napoli attack!

How many clean sheet do we need to keep in order for Neuer to Break, All Club Competition and Bundesliga record.

I reckon Napoli might be a stumbling block

For BL it is "only" 137 more minutes, so two matches more. These are against Hannover away and Nürnberg at home. These should be doable.

For all club competitions, he needs 204 more minutes, that is 3 matches. The next matches are Napoli (CL, away), Hannover (BL, away) and Ingolstadt (DFB-Pokal, home). Here Napoli will make or break it.
