‘Juve should have kept Caceres’ Empty ‘Juve should have kept Caceres’

Former Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco has revealed why the club opted against keeping Martin Caceres.

The Uruguayan spent the 2009-10 season on loan in Turin from Barcelona before being allowed to return to Spain.

“The truth is that I was already talking to Barcelona in April 2010 about him,” Secco told TMW in an interview.

“We were discussing the renewal of his loan for another season, but also talking about lowering his buy-out clause to around €6m or €7m.

“But it was decided that Caceres wouldn’t be kept. If it was up to me then I would have renewed his loan as we could have evaluated him for another season.”

The 24-year-old, currently at Sevilla, recently admitted that he’d like another opportunity to play for the Old Lady.

Caceres, who was used as a right-back and a centre-back for the Turin giants, was restricted to just 15 games for Juve because of injury problems.
