If I could read only one book in my life that would be the Silmarilion.
Shows the vastness of Tolkien’s imagination of which the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings is only a small part.

From a literature point of view though, both LotR and Hobbit will be considered more important readings

Just days left now . I've been waiting for this for too long , The Hobbit Proud

I've read all Tolkien books about Middle-Earth , except The Children of Hurin , which i always left for tomorrow somehow..but The Hobbit i read first when i was younger and besides the movies , it's what got me into Tolkien's universe.

From what i've seen already , i think this will be a really fascinating movie . Jackson will have done wonders again , presuming , even though some already complain that it's too childish ;

Well , it is supposed to be childish in the beginning , afterall Tolkien begun writting it as a story for children with a light atmosphere going on , but it completely evolves later , fading more and more as it goes on , to the point after half of the story has progressed , the light tone of the film doesn't exist .

Of course this will show in this movie as well , but the 2nd and especialy the third movie , won't be like the first movie at all.

I've already re opened the Hobbit a bit , just to refresh the names of some of the Dwarves , because for the uninitiated , it will prove difficult to remember who is who .

I would recommend reading the book first , or at least try to recall which Dwarf is which , it will help watch the movie and enjoy it a lot more.

Somehow the theater I live nearby says that the first showing will be on Thursday at 10pm even though it's not supposed to be out until Friday scratch

Oh well, might be seeing it on Thursday then. Cannot fecking wait.

And btw, I assume people know this by now, but this is being made into three movies now. They're going to make it happen by adding in more to the stories to bridge The Hobbit and LotR it sounds like. Seems like overkill on paper but we'll see how it all works out I guess.

What do people think of that they will make three movies of one book which is shorter than any of the three Lord of the Rings books?

I think it will mean that each of the films will be slower paced but all of the things that we only heard about or were barely mentioned in the book will come to life. I don't mind because I'll watch these type of movies every year for my life and not get bored, but it will mean they won't be as critically successful as the LotR movies (which has already been proven I guess).

I think when you have a great book like the Hobbit...that it's fantastic it's broken up into three movies.

The more content they can cover and the more respect they can give to such a book by covering that content in 3 movies rather than one, the better.

I think I may go see it tonight. We'll see. Either way I'm HYYYPYPPEEEDDD

I actually saw it again yesterday because one of my brothers wanted to see it and I had a free pass since the showing on opening night was delayed and they gave me one. Unlike the first time, this time was in 24 fps and looked completely normal. You don't need to see it twice, but the 24 fps is like a normal movie and the 48 is like you're on the set itself (cool but looks fake). Up to you.

it's not just one book, but stories from LOTR appendices, which give a far more detail look at the characters

read this article, it gives very good reasoning for why it's a trilogy

i wanted to watch it on 48fps but it was sold out when i got to theater ending up watching 24fps. will go watch it again when exams end in 48fps

went for desolation of smaug yesterday. Definitely better than the unxpected journey and i loved the action in this film. The dragon  . They didnt end it well though ,but understandably since it wouldve gone 4 hours easily if they were to complete the book.

Big fan of Lotr books and movies, also liked the hobbit book, but the hobbit trilogy is horrible.

You just can't make a 6 hour trilogy from a 200 pages book.

i am sorry it's been 3 years and people are still complaining about the length?

it's not just from 200 book, there are stories in the appendix of LOTR books, plus there are new things that PJ added like new characters and storylines...there are also scenes from the books which only have a few lines which PJ showed us which take a few minutes themselves. There are many storylines inside the Hobbit which a great director like PJ and writers like Philippa Boyens, Philippa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro (yes he is a part of it too) can extend and make even better

Plus when i watched the first one i wanted more i haven't seen the 2nd but i have heard from alot of people and reviews i have read, that they wanted to more, the time went by quickly

That all would be fine and good if the Hobbit film wasn't a turd. But it's boring as *bleep*. The first movie was basically a Benny hill episode, with 50% of onscreen time devoted to "car chase". Bo-ring.

They could have also made an 17 hour sixtology from the Lord of the Rings adding 8 hours of chases between orcs and the company or orcs and Sam and Frodo.

They combined the Silmarillion with the Hobbit for the movie... pieces of each.  If you haven't read the books, you should read both.  Films are good.  Books are 1000000000000000000x better.  Masterpieces.

although I'm not interested on the hobbit's main story and disliked an unexpected journey, I loved the desolation of smaug and I can't wait for the battle of the 5 armies, specially for the LOTR fan service we will get.

can't wait to see the battle of dol guldur :fap:
